Excerpt: Grace Episcopal Church (Georgetown, Colorado) -The first Episcopal congregation in Georgetown was organized by 1867, eight years after Georgetown was founded. Its members included transplants to Georgetown from England, Cornwall, Wales, and the Eastern United States. The Church building was designed by local resident D. H. Joy, and construction began on the structure in 1869. A strong wind blew the half-completed structure down in November of that year, delaying construction until 1870. The building was finally consecrated in 1872. The Altar and 1882 reredosThe interior of the church reflects the wealth of Georgetown in the 1870s. The original pews, which are still in use today, are made of walnut. The pipe organ, constructed by C. Anderson in Denver, was purchased in 1877. Still in use, it is the oldest operational organ in the state. In 1882, a three-panel reredos was painted by Mrs. Anderson P. Stephens of Lawson, Colorado. The reredos still stands above the altar. The church continued to draw a small congregation after the 1894 silver crash. At times it has shared priests with the Episcopal churches in Central City and Idaho Springs. Services are still held in the church every Sunday. Interest in preserving the church has been bolstered by the availability of funds which are taken by the State from gambling revenues in Central City and Black Hawk, for use in the preservation of historic buildings. They released their debut album Odd How People Shake in 2003 with a re-release in January 2004, second album Art Damage in September 2004, third album The Always Open Mouth in September 2006, and fourth album Fear Before in October 2008. In 2002, Fear Before the March of Flames was formed in Aurora, Colorado with vocalist David Marion, guitarist/vocalist Adam Fisher, bassist Michael Madruga, and drummer Brandon Proff. The original members all met at Smoky Hill High School in Aurora, CO, however Adam is the only Colorado native. "My name is Flora Jessop. I've been called apostate, vigilante, and crazy bitch, and maybe I am. But some people call me a hero, and I'd like to think they're right too. If I am a hero, maybe it's because every time I can play a part in saving a child or a woman from a life of servitude and degradation, I'm saving a little piece of me, too.

I was one of twenty-eight children born to my dad and his three wives. Indoctrinated to believe that the outside world was evil, and that I resided among the righteous, I was destined to marry a man chosen for me by the Prophet. I would then live in harmony with my sister-wives, bear many children, and obey and serve my future husband in this life and throughout eternity. But my innocence didn't last long. While still a child, I understood that the church of the righteous was nothing but a church of lies.

When I was eight years old my father sexually molested me for the first time, raping me when I was twelve. I tried to kill myself. Beaten, molested, taunted, and abused by family members alleging they only wanted to save my soul became a daily routine, I ran from this abuse more than once in my early teens--even attempting to cross the desert on foot. My family hunted me down. I thought government agencies would provide me safety if I reported my father. Instead, police and social services colluded with the FLDS to return me to my family and I ended up back inside polygamy, right where I started."

Church of Lies
This gives the inside of what goes on in the FDLS. The women and chidren of this group have no hope. Most of them are un-educated, lacking social skills that most of us take for granted. These "so called proffets" who hide behind the name of a religous group are no more than cult leaders, who abuse women and children.
Who in the outside world, would sexually abuse his own children and his wife?
They are no more than a petifile.

Go Jessie!
What an unselfish person Jessie is. She could so easily have escaped the Cult and gone on to live a nice quiet life in the outside world with her husband and children.

But she didn't. Instead she has devoted her life to helping as many people as she can to escape. Go Jessie, you're great!

Just Not Believable
I've read several books on the FLDS folks, and I'm certainly no fan of these sexists, but this book is just not believable.The author, who seems to have had more than her 15 minutes of fame, does not convince me that she's telling the truth.Jessop alleges that child abuse within the family is widespread, and I just don't believe it.She does nothing to convince me.I have no problem believing that these folks marry off very young girls to any dirty old man who is one of them, but I don't believe that so many fathers are sexually abusing their own daughters.I find this to be a very shallow, sensationalist book.There is enough real that's wrong with the FLDS; Jessop didn't have to invent material, and that's the feeling that I got throughout this book.

Fighting against the FLDS
Flora Jessop was born into an off-shoot of the Mormon Church called the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints or FLDS.

Her mother was the first wife of her father, but was treated very rudely by him after he married Flora's 16 year old Aunt Elizabeth (the sister of her mother.) Flora's mother gave birth to 17 children, but only got to raise 10 of them. Because Flora's Uncle Fred was barren Flora's father gave 7 of his children to Fred and his wife Lynda to raise.

From the time Flora was 8 her father would sexually abuse her, eventually raping her at 12. Sometime after the first rape Flora started to feel sick, so her mother took her to Aunt Lynda, who was an unofficial nurse.Flora had no idea what was going on when Lynda stuck a hanger in her-it was not until Lynda made a comment about Flora being pregnant that Flora knew what was going on.

Shortly afterward Flora and one of her friends decided to run away from the FLDS. After it was known they ran away a lot of people in the community went looking for them. They were on the lamb for a while before Flora called her Uncle Fred. He picked her up and took her back to his house and for the next two years she was treated like a slave. One day she escaped, and was found by hercousin Phillip. They talked for a while before the "God Squad" came looking for her and she ran off. Soon she returned home and her father told her that she could either marry Phillip or be instatutionalized. She decided to marry Phillip.

Flora and Phillip only lived together for a short time before Flora left him. This led to years of drinking and drug abuse. After several years Flora cleaned up and met a man with a young son whom she fell in love with. After she became pregnant with her baby though she found out he was cheating on her and left her daughters father, but remained in contact with his son.

Several years after the birth of her daughter Flora met Tim, a man who had a daughter 2 years older than her daughter. They soon moved in together and married in 2001. During this time Flora was a stay at home mom raising her daughter and step-daughter. This changed when she got a call saying that there was a girl trying to escape the FLDS who needed some were to stay. This led Flora on a crusade to help other woman and children trying to escape. During this time she also tried to help her younger sister Ruby.

During the years that Flora was raising her children her father had been kicked out of the FLDS, and her mother given to Flora's Uncle Fred. By this time Fred was the step-father to about 100 children and one day in early 2001 he told the family that three daughters of the family were going to get married. One was Elissa Wall (whose mother had married Fred the year before) and one was Ruby. All three were married on the same day (Late April 2001.) Ruby did not want to get married to their step-brother (and cousin) and was in love with another boy. Shortly afterward she tried to escape, but was pulled back in and later tried to kill herself. Because of this Flora has devoted her self to helping people try to escape the FLDS. To date she has helped over 400 people (mostly young women) escape.

All in all a very interesting book

I have been concerned about this problem, especially after the Texas raid when the children were sent back to the parents and the women and children ended up with no protection. I think we need to take the religion out of it and just look at it like it is, pure, evil, abuse to women, children and in some cases boys and men. ... Read more
