THE BEST COOKBOOK EVER
This refers to the 1977 edition also published by Mongomery Ward, but editted by Dianne Young.I believe that this cookbook is an expanded later edition as title and publisher are the same.However this one has significantly more pages than mine.

As a highschooler I used to mock this 70's cookbook, which among other things explains how to boil a cup of water in a microwave, not to microwave metal and informs you that you should never microwave with the door open.Apparently microwaves were a new appliance so they had to break everything down.However when crunch time came and I had to cook, having never used an oven and not being totally comfortable with anything other than a microwave, I turned to Adventures in Microwave Cooking.

This is the best book for cooking if you don't have an oven or are living on your own and are making small amounts of food such that it would be a waste of energy to heat an oven up.It has a table with cooking times for various vegetables that includes more unusual vegetables.I have used this as a reference for steaming artichokes and other less common vegetables.There are also a number of complete recipes for various dishes.What makes these recipes so awesome is that they are from scratch.There are many entrees, sauces, soups and sides.When this was written convenience foods were less common, hence the from scratch recipes.

It is so practical to have a good from scratch microwave cookbook.My advice is to try to find mid-70's microwave cookbooks at thrift stores. ... Read more

Excellent older microwave cookbook
I recently purchased a copy of this for my mother-in-law. My Mom had given it to me years ago. It has easy to do, tasty microwavable items. The only thing I have had to do through the years is adjust the times as our microwaves are more powerful. There are the usual varieties of entree, veg, desserts. I always liked the cheezy chicken, the stuffed pork chops, stuffed tomatoes. I never did much with desserts so can't comment on these. The nice thing is that the basic how-to-microwave info is still helpful for newbies who are wanting to actually cook in the microwave.I rated it a 4 instead of a 5 because of the adjustments you need to do for the cooking times. ... Best Reference & Conversion Guide to move from Traditional Cooking Methods to Microwave
I've owned a copy of this book since I bought my first microwave back in the dark ages when microwave ovens were New Fangled Contraptions. I just bought 2 more for young adults in our family who beginning their own households.

Whether you're a cooking novice or an experienced traditional cook looking for ways to use that counter-hogging microwave, this is the book for you. The New G. E. Microwave Cookbook teaches technique along with providing a huge variety of basic recipes. It gives charts for microwaving just about anything you'd care to cook short of elephant and whole giant squid. Yeah, that's an exageration, but it **is** a good basic microwave cookbook.

Every page is liberally illustrated with color photographs so you can seeee how to apply the techniques the book teaches. The authors give 13 deatailed pages to microwaving by food types, defrosting and reheating charts. It devotes almost another 40 pages to "Microwave Adapting Guides" before the microwave recipes' sections. TAll told, there are over 200 pages of detailed, practical and useful information.

The copyright was almost a quarter century ago, yet this book is still the most informative I've found for microwave cookery. Formicrowaves with high wattages,the charts and guidelines still stand as rules of thumb. Just ease the time back a notch and you're ready to go. With this book and a few microwave cooking containers you could really do without a conventional oven in your kitchen.

Better than cracking a can and almost as easy
This is a perfect cook book for folks who hate TV dinners but lack the time, or the skills, for a major production. The old fashioned fudge recipe, as good as Ma's and a heck of a lot more reliable, and split pea with ham, should become classics and these are just the start of the fun

Lots of tasty recipes that save time both in cooking and clean-up
This book shows how the microwave can be used for preparing many traditional dishes that ordinarily would take too much time or attention for me to consider. For example, the basic risotto recipe takes about 30 minutes total -- and it is delicious.The authors include several variations to the basic recipe as well, incorporating sausage, shrimp, mushrooms, etc.Microwave corn on the cob is a wonderful summer recipe.Using the microwave you can enjoy preparing as well as eating this dish -- because you don't have to heat up your kitchen by boiling a large pot of water.Another very helpful thing that the authors do is tell you flat out when a dish is NOT microwavable, such as preparing eggs, breads, and whole roasts.

Not at all what I expected.
I found 2 recipes in this entire book that are quick, easy-to-do recipes. If you're looking for fancy dishes you can make in the microwave, this is for you, not for the college kid looking for something simple.

You will be inspired to actually cook in that coffee warmer.
I cook in my microwave now.This book is wonderful.There are great soup recipes.My favorite are Chicken Tortilla and Minestrone.All the vergetables are cover with directions on how to get the best flavors.This book also tells you what you cannot cook well in the microwave.And the price isfantastic!This is great for a first time cook too. ...
