Product Description
What is the mystery of the crop circles? Are they manmade or supernatural? Is there a higher intelligence responsible for such creations, and if so, who are they and what are they trying to tell us? Bizarrely, the answer might lie not here on earth, but 37,000 light years away in the constellation of Cygnus, the Northern Cross, where lurks a star perhaps responsible not only for the foundation of the world’s earliest stone monuments but for the emergence of humanity itself. Illustrated with 4-color photos. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A thorough dissemination of the topic and a choice pick
Bored farmers or the supernatural? "The New Circlemakers: Insights into the Crop Circle Mystery" discusses the crop circles with a metaphysical eye upon their roots, stating that crop circles may have similar origins to the likes of Stone Henge. Indeed, the foundation of crop circles just might be in mankind's druidic ancient religions. An intriguing survey for metaphysical readers, "The New Circlemakers" is a thorough dissemination of the topic and a choice pick.

5-0 out of 5 stars so interesting!
I loved this book, it was a fascinating read. The author is obviously well-versed in crop circles. I think he is from the part of the UK where they often occur. It's an interesting subject to me whether they are man-made or otherworldly, or BOTH! ... Read more

Product Description
Following on from the success of "Circular Evidence" and "Crop Circles: the Latest Evidence", this book presents the most recent developments in the unsolved mystery of crop circles. This book contains over 100 aerial photographs and groundshots - all in colour - of the latest manifestations of the crop-circle phenomenon, both in the UK and abroad. In the summer of 1991 the ever-increasing complexity of the pictograms took a giant leap forward when the Mandelbrot set - an intricate and extremely difficult to produce chaotic mathematical pattern - was created in a crop field near Cambridge. The implications of its appearance, which has been the subject of high-level scientific debate, are discussed fully, as are the results of research laboratory tests carried out on samples taken from crop formations on both sides of the Atlantic. Also included is a detailed account of the widely publicized affair involving claims that the circles were the work of hoaxers, as well as an exploration of the efficacy and validity of surveillance projects in the quest to witness and/or record a circle's creation. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Objective & Informative
First of all, for me, Andy Thomas is a brilliant writer. His writing is educational, humorous and expansive. This little book is a great intro to the subject of crop formations. I appreciate the intelligent approach to a highly debated subject. I find there is a lot of misinformation out there and am glad for the simple clarity in this book. So whether you are just hearing about these or have a full library on the matter, it is a beautiful addition despite being written several years ago. The quality of printing is exceptional too! I find the line of Wessex books to be lovely. Enjoy! ... Read more

Product Description
Diffusion in Natural Porous Media: Contaminant Transport,Sorption/Desorption and Dissolution Kinetics introduces thegeneral principles of diffusion in the subsurface environment anddiscusses the implications for the fate and transport of contaminantsin soils and groundwater. Emphasis is placed on sorption/desorptionand the dissolution kinetics of organic contaminants, both of whichare limited by the slow speed of molecular diffusion. Diffusion in Natural Porous Media: Contaminant Transport,Sorption/Desorption and Dissolution Kinetics compiles methodsfor calculating the diffusion coefficients of organic compounds (inaqueous solution or vapor phase) in natural porous media. The authoruses analytical solutions of Fick's 2nd law and some simple numericalmodels to model diffusive transport under various initial and boundaryconditions. A number of these models may be solved using spreadsheets. The book examines sorption/desorption rates of organic compounds invarious soils and aquifer materials, and also examines the dissolutionkinetics of nonaqueous phase liquids in aquifers, in both the trappedresidual phase and in pools. Diffusion in Natural Porous Media: Contaminant Transport,Sorption/Desorption and Dissolution Kinetics concludes with adiscussion of the impact of slow diffusion processes on soil andgroundwater decontamination and the implications of these processesfor groundwater risk assessment. ... Product Description

At the same time Andy Warhol was changing American art in New York City, Lillian Colton, owner of the Cinderella Clip ’n’ Curl in Owatonna, Minnesota, launched her own version of pop art. From her patient hands, practiced at embroidering linens and crocheting lace, came captivating portraits of Jesus, Elvis, Oprah, Lady Diana, Clinton, and Prince, intricately rendered in timothy, bromegrass, canola, poppy seeds, salsify, alsike, bird’s-foot trefoil, grits, and wild rice.

Seed Queen brings to light the story of this crop artist extraordinaire—how she developed her matchless aesthetic by merging rural traditions from her childhood on a farm with a love of Hollywood movies, training as a hairstylist, and skills in drawing and painting—and the larger story of crop art as it has evolved over time.

This lively illustrated volume features dozens of color images of Colton’s crop art and of the work of those she has continued to inspire since she took home the blue ribbon for her portrait of Nixon at the 1969 Minnesota State Fair. Countless artists have taken the genre in new directions in recent years, opening up the pantheon of the famous, taking on political issues, and satirizing those in power—all through the meticulous positioning of thousands of individual seeds.

Colleen Sheehy is the director of education at the Weisman Art Museum and teaches art history at the University of St. Thomas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Indisputable evidence - well documented
I read and reviewed "Messages From Space" earlier this year for a print publication. I am currently writing for two websites and wished to add some comments to this review area.
When I initially picked up this book, I was as skeptical as most might be. However, Jay Goldner's research was as fascinating as it was convincing. His finding's are presented in a clear and concise format that show there is more to the Crop Circle phenomenon than is being told to the public.
Though it has been proven in the past that some Crop Circles have indeed been hoaxes, the sheer numbers (over 10,000)and intricacies make it impossible for them all to be.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has even a passing interest in the subject.

Product Description
Earth-energies scholar Leviton looks at the exploding number of reports from around the world of Virgin Mary apparitions, UFO sightings, and crop circle formations, and comes to the conclusion that something very real and very important is happening. Focusing on a few global "hot spots" of such activity including Lourdes, Topanga Canyon in California, and Wiltshire, England, Leviton explains why these events continue to happen, how the three phenomena are connected, and, most importantly, what they are attempting to tell us about the future of the Earth. Richard Leviton is the author of ten books including The Emerald Modem (Hampton Roads, ISBN 1-57174-245-X, 2004) and The Galaxy on Earth (Hampton Roads, ISBN 1-57174-222-0, 2002). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Multi-dimensional Gaia
For those seeking an enlightening synthesis of apocalyptic apparitions this book is both comprehensive and intellectually satisfying.Few others have attempted to put the pieces of this mysterious puzzle together. But it is not channeled.Leviton demonstrated his objectivity and carefully detailed research with numerous books and articles on alternative medicine. Now, after over 20 years of work with the angelic hierarchy, the Ofanim, he brings us a perspective that is liberating, clear, and radical. He states that Marian apparitions, aliens among us, and crop circle symbols have a role in upgrading humanity's consciousness.Leviton has done his homework, both scholarly and visionary. In what is a new field of human endeavor, his clairvoyant research reveals how each of these apparently disparate phenomena are gateways to earth's visionary geography. At specific places on our planet beings from hidden dimensions can more easily manifest. He states that it is not a question of whether or not the phenomena are real, but of how to interpret their significance. Leviton introduces us to the multi-dimensional reality that is our brave new world!

3-0 out of 5 stars A brief geometrical analysis, but little else
I actually wanted to give this book 3.5 stars, for reasons you'll see below, but the facts are simple.

1) This is a very short book. The Appendix begins on page 117.

2) The book's one saving grace is the author's interesting analysis of the geometry of the circles. It's quite satisfying to see a diagram starting from scratch, with the addition of a circle here, a pentagon there, a circle here, etc. ending up with a complete replication of the crop circle under discussion.

3) Aside from the geometrical analysis (which I found compelling), the remainder of the book is little more than a brief diary of a few visits of the Dutch author to a few well-known circles.

4) For padding, there's a nice six-page spread of color photographs, with absolutely no analysis.

I love that the author took the time to do some geometry to figure out how to recreate some of the more famous circles, and for that I give this book kudos. The rest of the book is not very interesting, though, and I've read many other clearly superior books. For one, it seems like the book was self-published and in need of a professional editor. It almost seems like the author had some good ideas and diagrams, presented them and explained them, then completely ran out of time and/or steam toward the end.The final 30 pages are mostly throwaway references to photographs of circles.

I recommend "The New Circlemakers" and "The Gift" instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars Crop Circles - Inside and Out
The book shows how the external geometry of the crop circles is formed from the internal geometry, and how one element of a crop circle determines the rest of the formation.(Trust me, the math here is not overwhelming.) The author does this through the "construction technique" method, re-constructing the formations through basic geometry, and building on a basic pattern. The appendix covers the geometry going from two-fold to nine-fold geometry.

The author is a bit over dramatic at times, but the complexity of crop circles, not limited to their mathematics, is exciting. When someone like Bert Janssen does find a link between these formations, it's got to be major accomplishment. The book also has some great glossy photos of crop circles.

Definitely a book worth having.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most intriguing and highly recommended!
This magnificent book takes you on a journey through "crop circle world", a complete and unique world of its own. It has been excitingly and passionately written. It holds your attention, even if you are not into geometry! The best thing about it is the author's conclusions, that he dares to draw through his decade of work on these miraculous designs. His conclusions change your view on this world, on reality itself. No other author has ever discovered what Bert Janssen discovered, and no one has ever had the guts to write it all down and share it with the world! Absolutely highly recommended!!! ... Read more

Product Description
This book merges the arts and sciences. It provides an overview of the history of sugar and its effect on Berber traditions & culture in Morocco. The introduction of sugar to Morocco had a major influence on society including traditional Berber communities where it is reported to have supernatural protective powers over new born babies. Sugar is also a valuable commodity in regard to marriage negotiations. The cultural importance of sugar in rural Berber communities within the Rif region of North Africa are viewed from an anthropological perspective with reference being made to the works of Sidney Mintz, Michel Foucault and Pierre Bourdieu in relation to slavery, habitus, the normalization of mass beliefs and power structures within society. It also suggests ways in which remediation may be undertaken in regard to the pollutants and toxins left in the environment by the sugar cane industry. This book is a wonderful read for anyone interested in the history of sugar, anthropology, cultural studies, environmental science or those planning arm chair travel or actual travel to the Maghrib. ... Product Description
Broadly defined, a cover crop is any annual, biennial, or perennial plant grown as a monoculture (one crop type grown together) or polyculture (multiple crop types grown together), to improve any number of conditions associated with sustainable agriculture. Cover crops are fundamental, sustainable tools used to manage soil fertility, soil quality, water, weeds (unwanted plants that limit crop production potential), pests (unwanted animals, usually insects, that limit crop production potential), diseases, and diversity and wildlife, in agroecosystems (Lu et al. 2000). Agroecosystems are ecological systems managed by humans across a range of intensities to produce food, feed, or fiber. To a large degree, humans shape the ecological structure and function of natural processes that occur in agroecosystems. As agroecosystems often interact with neighboring natural ecosystems in agricultural landscapes, cover crops that improve the sustainability of agroecosystem attributes may also indirectly improve qualities of neighboring natural ecosystems. ...
