Extractions: San Francisco Bay City Guide T he world wild web is the first media to be considered both print and broadcast so we think it important to tell you that we are organized around the metro center best known globally as the San Francisco Bay Area. As a web guide we make extensive use of locally oriented web resources and we organize around the three metro centers and professional sports namesakes of San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose. The broadcast media of radio and TV does so as well however print media has a narrower agenda which seeks to create conflict by fanning the flames of regional conflict. With no regional government and plenty of State and federal funds to be disbursed their is much at stake. Just as Carnaval unites the world, we support the efforts of the three metro center Mayors to unite the Bay Area. It is a fascinating story you can only find here. Updates N orthern California contains a bounty of the traveler's world class destinations, wine country, white water, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Gold Country, Redwoods, Pacific Ocean and so much more. We got started on our best of the best of the web but expect this section to expand significantly for your benefit over the course of time.

Extractions: In conjunction with National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week (NCAAW), Beta Nu Chapter co-sponsored a mocktail competition. This activity provided opportunities for various organizations on campus to submit a recipe for a non-alcoholic drink. The drink concoctions were prepared for a panel of judges. The judges selected the top 3 drinks and awarded prizes. Gammans served on the judging panel, helped with advertising and arrangements, and submitted a Beta Nu recipe. In conjunction with NCAAW, Beta Nu Chapter co-sponsored a dance as an alcohol-alternative activity for students on campus. In addition to the free music and refreshments, speakers provided commentary on the impact of drunk driving in their lives. The speakers all were victims of drunk driving incidents. Each year, an ESG officer is selected to serve as student representative on the departmental curriculum committee (DCC). The student meets regularly with the committee and provides input on curricular matters. The student also serves as liaison for the majors in the department, providing updates and soliciting feedback from the students to take back to the DCC.

In recent years, scientific evidence linking physical activity and health and organizational statements supporting the value of regular physical activity have increased. The American Heart Association (AHA) in 1992 identified physical inactivity as a major risk factor for coronary heart disease. The 1995 National Institutes of Health (NIH) Consensus Development Conference on Physical Activity and Cardiovascular Health confirmed the importance of physical activity for cardiovascular health. In 1995, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended that all Americans accumulate at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity on most, preferrably all, days of the week. These actions and others like them are based on a growing body of research showing the health benefits of regular physical activity. "This landmark review of the research on physical activity-the most comprehensive ever-has the potential to catalyze a new physical activity and fitness movement in the United States."
