Extractions: This page provides links to selected Internet-searchable telephone, fax, and e-mail directories. It is arranged by major type of directory rather than by Web site for ease of use. Since telephone directory sites on the Web change frequently or disappear altogether, expect that some links may not connect or may operate differently than described. Use the white page directories to find the phone number or location of persons or businesses you know by name. In searching these sites, be aware that each varies in accuracy, comprehensiveness, and currency in ways that are not always apparent. Also, take special care searching business names since many databases shorten long names in unpredictable ways. For example, International Business Machines Corporation can be listed as "International Business Mach" in some locations and as "International Business Machine" in others even within the same database. Chapter 12: Security And Directory Services Architecture information on our users, network devices, and organizations, directories must bebuilt can provide standards based access to directories for lookups, as a http://irm.state.nc.us/techarch/chaps/chap14-10.htm
Extractions: Directory services is a critical component to statewide initiatives like E-mail and Electronic Commerce. The current enterprise directory is fault tolerant and highly available from any location that participates. Time, distance, and location do not restrict access to the information contained within the services. Coordinated directory services will improve communication between our applications, databases, and network operating systems by providing consistent, reliable information in an efficient and effective manner. Rationale: Novell NDS has become the State's de Facto standard for enterprise directory services. This has been a successful, well-coordinated effort that has been recognized internationally. NDS is available on several platforms such as Microsoft NT, Sun Solaris, and many others. NDS also supports numerous access protocols such as LDAP, ODBC, Java, and ActiveX. Implementing NDS on the available platforms, using the supported access protocols, will achieve interoperability between these platforms and applications. It will also provide a single point of administration and authentication. Participation in the Statewide NDS tree is required for those NDS installations within the NCIIN whether from NDS on NetWare or NDS on the other available platforms. Where NDS is not currently available, such as in the mainframe environment, use the Service Broker security services for authentication.

Extractions: About Us, Our CD's and Volunteers Hello, we are Mike and Helene Carson and we thank you for visiting our site. I, (Helene) am the "Genealogy Nut" in the family, and many of you may know me from Rootsweb Lists, I am the List Administrator for the City Directories List and I also volunteer on many Transcription Projects. I am a stay at home wife, and mother of 3 boys ages 15, 11 and 4. Trips to the Family History Centers are few and very far between in our house, as our FHC is a small one, opened only 2 days per week, and only 1/2 days at that. I have tried taking our youngest son with me on several occasions, but unfortunately that did not work out. But that has not stopped me from doing our family genealogy. I also realize that there are many people in the same position as I am, for one reason or another, and they just cannot get out of their homes to research. ABOUT OUR OLD CITY DIRECTORY CD'S During the years we have been lucky enough to collect copies of a wide variety of Old City Directories. What we have done is scan each page of these directories, and preserved them on CD. Old City Directories are one of the most valuable genealogical tools one can get. You will find listings for every surname, given name, occupation and address for that year. You will also find business listings, and listings for churches, banks, hotels, burial grounds, organizations and state and city Representatives. Some will also offer "A Sketch of the Town" which offers much history surrounding the city or town. They are great for not only locating known ancestors, but you may also come across one or two you never even knew existed. Use them to pinpoint a place in time, such as a birth, death arrival or marriage.
