Ritual and utilitarian objects, arranged in chronological and stylistic order, document the cultural evolution of indigenous societies from preceramic to Taino, the island's dominant culture at the time of the conquistadors. The simple elegance of line and grace of form in Taino art strike the more than 20,000 annual visitors as surprisingly contemporary. In addition to conserving and exhibiting these valuable artifacts, the museum is a dynamic educational center for scientific and cultural investigation. Detailed informational material is circulated to schools and community centers locally. A comprehensive library houses volumes on Caribbean history, archaeology, anthropology, and art. An outreach program sponsors conferences, temporary exhibits, field trips, audio-visual presentations, and seminars to encourage scholarly exchange. August 17 - 19th were great mile markers in the history of the Dominican church. We are thrilled to report the greatest outpouring of the Holy Ghost that the United Pentecostal Church has ever seen in our country in one crusade! There was an attendance of approximately 2500 in the largest service! Besides the great outpouring of the Holy Spirit, another notable miracle took place during the crusade. On Friday morning, the 17th, the local newspapers published that tropical storm "Chantel" would be passing through that night bringing torrential downpours. The church bound together and prayed that God would not allow this storm to hinder our outdoor crusade.
