Extractions: Outline Stages 4 to 6 Drama are designed to provide students with a general experience of the art form, whether in individual performance or in group-devised improvisational work. The subject matter covered allows all students to develop their own interest in acting, production, directing or writing and research. Drama skills and knowledge are developed simultaneously through participation in creative activity, providing a framework for students to develop higher order thinking skills. They develop an understanding of the cultural traditions and social contexts of drama and theatre and acquire skills in interpretation, communication, performance and critical analysis. The Drama 2 Unit course continues to make the study of performance and dramatic art as collaborative activities its central concern. The course is concerned with understanding, constructing, experiencing and appreciating dramatic and theatrical art forms. Boys taking 2 Unit Drama study the practical and theoretical elements at an advanced level. Drama is offered as an elective in Years 9 and 10 and is compulsory part of the curriculum. Year 8 Boys are encouraged to be involved in the annual extra curricular productions and Year 7 boys are given the opportunity to take part in weekly co-curricular classes.

Particularly important is appearing at scheduled rehearsals on time, unless notice is given. PERFORMANCES, DISCUSSIONS, and PLAY REPORTS . All drama students are expected to see each of our Lakeside plays. This supports the work of other students and is necessary preparation for post-play discussions which are an important learning task. In addition, all drama students must write reviews of three plays each year. Two of these play reports must be completed first semester. At least one of the three must be a play performance by a professional theatre group. You may write up to two reports on school productions. If you are cast in a play, you will still be expected to write a report each comment period. The reports will be due no later than the first class day of the last week of each comment period. (Please consult the Play Report Form for instructions about the format you should use.)

Human's work has been invited to 2 festivals in the Netherlands towards the end of 2001. Independent season 2000 The dance work "Noah's Drowning", a sequel to "Noah's Phobia" was performed at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre. Audience numbers were between 40-100 per night. The work enjoyed a successful season attracting excitement from audiences and critics alike. Tracy Human won the "2001 Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Dance" for her part in this work.
