Against Public Funding And, the problems are not at all solely the faults of politicians;rather they are the fault of societies as a whole. By societies http://www.icponline.org/feature_articles/f4_01.htm
Extractions: UNESCO Conference John J. Jackson Education finance is one of the mostly hotly debated issues in most countries. Here, Canadian JOHN JACKSON, puts forward his personal view, which recommends against public funding for private schools. 'ICP Online' readers from all countries, and especially Canada, are strongly urged to respond to this article with their own views on this controversial subject. THE PURPOSE in this essay is to urge politicians in Canada to determine what is wrong with public education, to understand better what schools are for, and to establish consistently sound public educational spending principles. Contemporary school situations are described, the reasons parents have for sending their children to private schools are explored, schools' purposes are outlined, and the inconsistent Canadian provincial educational financing situation is revealed. It is advocated that politicians should take religious, ethnic, and class discrimination out of public school funding by not providing tax dollars for non-public schools.

The following is her report on the conference proceedings. THE CONFERENCE was entitled , and was attended by over 300 delegates from East and South Asia, Australasia, the Pacific Islands, Canada and USA, with a handful from UK, Germany and the Middle East. It was held at the Imperial Queens Park Hotel in central Bangkok, and was opened by the Prime Minister of Thailand, followed by the Raja Roy Singh memorial lecture from Prof. David Hicks (Bath, UK). A vast mass of material was presented, as invited keynote speakers, panel presenters and individual paper presenters (10-12 simultaneous 30-minute sessions for a whole day) all shared their research, observations, experiences and visions. The organisers prepared summary booklets of all major presentations and abstracts of every paper given. To give shape to such a huge theme, the panel presentations, each with a keynote speaker and four presenters, were organised into four strands. A brief outline of key points emerging from these strand presentations follows.
