Yorkie care
This book offered some practical advice for grroming and caring for a Yorkie.Our adorable little Yorkie mix was a rescue and she is so adorable.The booked helped me to identify characteristics that I might see when her coat grows.As I am unsure how her coat will look and I am unsure as to whether or not I will let it grow, I do want to see how she looks naturally before deciding how to groom her.Her tiny stature was covered in the book as to how to ensure that she avoids injury (she is often right under foot).She is extremely loving and very playful with our 106 pound Black Lab.They easily learned to mingle and play.Our lab needed a playmate and she keeps him busy.The book guided my method of cleaning and training.She also has learned to tease our cat.She wants to play and the cat wants to be left alone but she(cat) is learning to tolerate our new bundle of energy.

I bought this book before bringing my yorkie home. While its a nice starter it contains information that can be easily looked up online for free. This is not a book to go back to for referance but definitely a nice start that will give you insight on your new yorkie puppy.

Not what i needed.
I wanted to learn how to cut my Shih Tzu's hair.Before ordering, I should have looked at the information that was available for my breed.There was only one page, as there is per breed, and the page had grooming instructions for leaving the dog's hair styled for "showing" in a competition, not for everyday, shorter cuts.I was very disappointed as this information and the rest of the book is of no value to me.If anyone is interested, I'm happy to sell it for $35.00 plus shipping.I paid 47.95 plus shipping.

Great book for Professional Groomers
A very complete and detailed dog grooming guide. Is a good resourse to be used in complete grooming courses.

A good basic book for beginners, but for advanced groomers, not so much. Some of the patterns are off and there is some misinformation for some breeds. Perhaps if this book were updated that would make it more applicable and marketable.

Easy to use guide
I think this book was useful and easy to read.
The format makes it easy to check while the book is open.
I liked the step-by step descriptions and the setup - which is very well arranged. There are drawings on each breed mentioned, some drawings better than others - but still the drawings are nice and very useful. In the more demanding breeds there is drawings on several details and sometimes several angles, this was very helpful in understanding the text.
I also liked the introduction part where equipment and techniques are described. You should read this part carefully before you start reading about the different breeds, especially if you are a beginner like me.

I would prefer an even more detailed description on some more popular breeds as flatcoated retriever, bernese mountaindog and other breeds with similar groomingdescriptions in the book on usual "small stuff" - shortening and trimming of ears and tail etc. I would also have preferred that stripping procedures could be mentioned - in addition to clipping - with regards to the terrier breeds. The book does mention though that it describes "pet grooming", and thus should not expect to give a perfect show result.
What this book lacks in respect to pet grooming is that there is only one style described for every breed. For many pets it may be more attractive to owners who do not want to use much time grooming their dog to cut the dog in an alternate style - but for this you can use your imagination or another book, and the drawings of each breed are helpful when discussing how the owner wants his or her dog groomed.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to start as a groomer, pet or show, or if you are interested and want to groom your own dogs and maybe help some friends with grooming. ... Read more

Only this little?
A brief introduction to American Pit Bull Terrier. Fine prints in all page, but the info is lack of precision and intelligence. Only if you have all others APBT books around.

Great to have
I'm about to donate a Kidney to my mom. and after im done with that i wanted to get me a Blue Pit Bull. but b4 i did i wanted to get a lot of info about the breed. So i ordered this book. and i loved it. iv already red it. and ill still flip through it from time to time.
And it give you great tips on owning a Pitbull. and warns you how people well give you Dirty Look when they see you walking with him/her and tells you to read and get as much info of the breed as you can. So that you can tell people about your dog. and defend the breed with facts.

I disagree....
I disagree with the other reviewers.This book is not substantial at all and does not give you any information that you couldn't get yourself from 5 minutes on the net. Not to mention there is a part of the book where the pages repeat themselves.I may be biased as I have not read other Pit Bull books to make a comparison.However, I read a LOT of books with many of them instructional, and I have to say, this one just plain SUCKS.Look for something else.

I Loved it!
I bought this book at a Pit Bull wieght pulling show a few years ago & I loved it!! It was very well written, indepth & informative! I would recomend this book to anyone who is interested in learning the truth about the American Pit Bull Terrier, it is also a great referance book, I still find myself looking through it once in awhile. :)

Not So Hot
This is a decent entry level book but nothing more. I was hoping for a bit more info on puppies and discovered this book lightly glosses over each topic covered, however, I give it three stars for some nice pictures.

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!
Do not waste your money. There is very little useful information. For instance, the cover lists information on training. The chapter on training tells you that you can train at home, join a class or send your dog off! There is no information on training at all.
