Editorial Review Product Description ADHD. Dyslexia. Autism. The number of categories of illnesses listed by the American Psychiatric Association has tripled in the past fifty years. With so many people affected by our growing culture of disabilities,” it no longer makes sense to hold on to the deficit-ridden idea of neuropsychological illness. With the sensibility of Oliver Sacks and Kay Redfield Jamison, psychologist Thomas Armstrong offers a revolutionary perspective that reframes many neuropsychological disorders as part of the natural diversity of the human brain rather than as definitive illnesses. Neurodiversity emphasizes their positive dimensions, showing how people with ADHD, bipolar disorder, and other conditions have inherent evolutionary advantages that, matched with the appropriate environment or ecological niche, can help them achieve dignity and wholeness in their lives. Editorial Review Product Description This is a sequel to the highly successful Music and Dyslexia: Opening New Doors, published in 2001. The field of dyslexia has developed rapidly, particularly in the area of neuropsychology. Therefore this book focuses on these research advances, and draws out the aspects of music education that benefit young dyslexics. The contributors also discuss the problems that dyslexic musicians face, and several chapters are devoted to sight-reading and specific strategies that dyslexics can use to help them sight-read. The book offers practical techniques and strategies, to teachers and parents to help them work with young dyslexics and dyslexic musicians. Customer Reviews (2)

Overcoming Musical Roadblocks due to Dyslexic Tendencies Here is the Table of Contents: I feel the first 4 chapters alone are worth getting the book for. Having someone explain Their Theory on Music and Dyslexia in a nutshell was very enlightening. After reading his idea and comparing it to mine, I like mine better. I created a 'Grand Staff' on a Word Processor and using Colored Notes I have been writing Music "In Color" for 6 Months. And guess what, IT WORKED! My daughter can read music now, and no longer has to memorize the songs she learns. I'm considering writing some sort of booklet on My Colored Notes Theory, and possibly a Web Site in the future...I hope this information helps you in your search for finding new ways of Learning to read Music..... ...
