Extractions: Engineering Home ESAC is a focal point for student activities in the engineering school. It is active in organizing events, in enhancing student life, in benefiting engineering students, and acting as a means of communication between students, student groups, and the administration. In the past year, ESAC has planned several events to benefit the Penn engineering community. ESAC is the umbrella organization for all engineering clubs. Monthly meetings are held with student leaders from each engineering organization. The meetings provide a way for engineering clubs to support one another and to create community within SEAS. Most departments are affiliated with a national professional organization. Each of these organizations has a chapter at Penn, which becomes a club for undergraduate students. Typically, these clubs will organize alumni speakers, plant tours, recreational events and social events. Residents, environmentalists, planners, developers, business owners and a host of other interested people and organizations conceived the North Natomas Community Plan -the blueprint for this area - through decades of collaboration. The result is an area with the potential to be one of the most ''livable communities'' in the nation. The North Natomas area consists of 7,388 acres and is a new, emerging growth area directly north of downtown Sacramento. About 1,500 homes will be built in the area this year. At buildout, North Natomas is projected to have 32,500 dwelling units with a population of 66,000 residents and 71,000 employees. North Natomas Community is designed with a network of transit services, including a future light rail system with six stations, major bus service and a shuttle. In addition, the community area will have linear parkways with pedestrian trails, on-street bike lanes along all major streets and off-street bike trails along all drainage canals. Two interstate freeways- I-5 and Interstate-80 also serve the area.
