Extractions: The Department of Energy's PrePRINT Network is a searchable gateway to preprint servers that deal with scientific and technical disciplines of concern to DOE. Such disciplines include the great bulk of physics, materials, and chemistry, as well as portions of biology, environmental sciences and nuclear medicine. With a single query, users can search one or a selected set of existing preprint servers. The Network pulses the search engines of such servers, compiles the results, and returns them to the users. With the PrePRINT Alerts feature, users can create personal profiles to match their interests. Users then receive notification of new information that matches their profile. Note: Special viewers may be required to view some of the preprints. For more information, see the System Requirements Department of Energy
Extractions: Across the nation, the week of March 16-22, 2003 is being celebrated as Excellence in Science, Technology, and Mathematics Education (ESTME) Week. (ESTME is pronounced esteem.) The goal is to excite K-12 students about the wealth of opportunities for discovery and exploration afforded by math and science education.

Extractions: A vulnerability has been identified in the World Wide Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) protocol. WebDAV uses IIS to pass requests to and from Windows 2000. When IIS receives a WebDAV request, it typically processes the request and then acts on it. However, if the request is formed in a particular way, a buffer overrun can result because of a flaw in one of the components called by WebDAV which does not correctly check parameters. For more information, see Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-007 or CIAC's Bulletin N-054 - Microsoft Unchecked Buffer in Windows Component Could Cause Web Server Compromise CIAC recommends all Windows 2000 machines, whether running IIS or not, have the Microsoft patch applied.
