Enduring understandings, as defined by Wiggins and McTighe, refer to important ideas or core processes that have lasting value beyond the classroom. To determine enduring understandings, teachers are encouraged to ask: What do we want students to understand and be able to use several years from now, after they have forgotten the details. Why School Health And Trachoma to learning is based on teaching essential, core 'information do not replace thefundamental skills of reading for learning more advanced knowledge and skills http://www.trachomahki.org/schoolwhy.html
Extractions: HOME HKI TRACHOMA PROGRAMS TRACHOMA BACKGROUND INFORMATION RESOURCES ... FRENCH WHY SCHOOL HEALTH AND TRACHOMA In parts of the world where a child's most basic skill is survival from malnutrition, AIDS, violence, and lack of latrines and clean water, school-based health promotion and education are basic needs. It is from this perspective that HKI is implementing a five-year project (1999 - 2004) to develop school health interventions as part of a community approach to trachoma control. The strategy reflects the WHO-endorsed SAFE Strategy for community control of trachoma, which integrates service delivery with education and community development targets. The trachoma school health activities are funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Additional support provided through the Hilton Foundation supports additional training and service delivery within the public health sector. Objectives of the HKI Trachoma School Health Activities Develop and pilot a multi-phase teacher training model which includes Pedagogical approach based on action-learning Up-to-date health information, reference, and teaching materials
