5-0 out of 5 stars Wendy Rosenoff makes being green fun
Wendy Rosenoff has created a book packed with environmentally friendly -- and fun -- activities for kids showing green living is not a life of "doing without" but rather a way of looking at everyday things through a different light. The activities are presented in a very practical and hands-on way. They are varied and beautifully illustrated with clear directions. It is a great gift for teachers --I gave one to a pre-school teacher friend for Christmas and she loved it.

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING
I purchased this book so my children and I could enjoy crafts and activities together, while learning
to go GREEN.Going GREEN has become very important to me, and something I want my children not only
to learn about, but to practice. This book is so AMAZING that I purchased a copy as a gift for my
sister, so that she can enjoy doing these crafts and activities with her children.I highly recommend
this book, you will ENJOY it!!!

Grow Your Own Tree Hugger......What a lovely book to both read, glance thru and most of all give as a gift to friends and relatives with young children.I loved the illustrations and the easy way to follow projects thru.Overall Ms. Rosenoff did a wonderful job in getting even me to think "Green"

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Ideas for Developing an Environmentally Friendly Lifestyle
Wendy Rosenoff has created fun crafts, projects and recipes that help children explore ideas that will help them discover an environmentally friendly lifestyle. There are fun ideas like releasing ladybugs into your garden. You will also find recipes for making skin creams and a milk bath from natural products.

When I was a kid I would have loved to have made a solar oven. Children will enjoy this project even more when they get to cook sandwiches outside. Some of the other recipes include:

Chocolate Orange Pudding
Fruit Pizza
Coconut Macaroons
Apple Muffins

For children who love gardening there is a fun project that shows you how to grow your own herbs in an egg carton. They can even create their own mini-wind farm or make a compost heap.

Most of the supplies needed to complete the projects can be found in the average home. I think you will find a few projects you really love. This book would also be perfect for teachers who are also looking for art projects. Each of the projects has a "chat point" and a "mini-chat point." These sections explain the meaning behind the projects. For example the chat point on the beeswax candles project says:

"Paraffin candles made from petroleum byproducts produce toxic soot, are laden with synthetic fragrances and number a population size greater than some countries. Converting to beeswax candles makes perfect sense."

Product Description

“The Earth is a mosque”

Muslims are compelled by their religion to praise the Creator and to care for their community. But what is not widely known is that there are deep and long-standing connections between Islamic teachings and environmentalism. In this groundbreaking book, Ibrahim Abdul-Matin draws on research, scripture, and interviews with Muslim Americans to trace Islam’s preoccupation with humankind’s collective role as stewards of the Earth. Abdul-Matin points out that the Prophet Muhammad declared that “the Earth is a mosque.”

Deen means “path” or “way” in Arabic. Abdul-Matin offers dozens of examples of how Muslims can follow, and already are following, a Green Deen in four areas: “waste, watts (energy), water, and food.” At last, people of all beliefs can appreciate the gifts and contributions that Islam and Muslims bring to the environmental movement.

“Ibrahim Abdul-Matin not only shows the myriad ways American Muslims are contributing to the resolution of the environmental crisis that threatens us all but also goes a long way toward humanizing the Muslim community by sharing with the reader the lives of so many extraordinary, talented, and visionary people.”

—Imam Zaid Shakir, Zaytuna College, Berkeley, California

“Ibrahim blends his passion for a green economy, his love and understanding of faith, and a deep commitment to justice in this book.”
—Van Jones, founder, Green for All

“At a moment when distortions of Islam are what feed most Americans, Ibrahim Abdul-Matin has done something both practical and inspiring. He persuades us that the imperiled environment is both common struggle and common ground for people who share, it turns out, more than simply God.”

—John Hockenberry, Emmy-award-winning journalist, author of Moving Violations, and host of National Public Radio’s The Takeaway
