4-0 out of 5 stars great. could be outstanding
The book provided an excellent guide to majors and what colleges offer them. It would have been helpful though if the states, or even the page numbers were listed also. As it is a reader first finds a major, then the colleges that offer that major. They then have to go to the index to find the page number of the college, which will also tell them where the college is located. The book would be outstanding if it was more user-friendly for those limiting their choices geographically.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool for Educators
The other reviewer is correct, it is a list. But if you're an educator working with college students who are looking for graduate programs, it's an invaluable tool.Even with the benefits of the internet, I find that this book is helpful in locating information quickly. So if you are an individual looking into graduate schools, I would just go to the library and look at their copy. But for educators, it's a good investment for your students.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save Your Money
It's a list! It's a 658 page list of graduate schools in the United States - nothing more.If that's how you want to spend your money go for it!

2-0 out of 5 stars don't waste your money
Trust me, all the information in this book is EASILY accessible online at each university's website. I would be surprised if you find this book helpful.

The only thing somewhat useful about this book is the way it lists schools according to Degree's offered and State. This only made my internet searching slightly easier, and this alone is not nearly worth the price of the book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book
Assessment never seems to be simple, but this book manages to boil it down to the main points. I like how it is organized, and the appendices offer some good starting points for tools that you can customize to suit your own needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Looking for Help with Assessment
This book is an excellent resource for someone trying to understand how good assessment works. It is very easy to understand, provides lots of examples and doesn't try to confuse the reader by using excessive education jargon.A very good buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners
If your college is just beginning institutional assessment, then this is the book for you. It has several talking points that will allow faculty and the administration to join together in the task. Overall, I enjoyed it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very practical, highly usable
This is a great introduction to the assessment process with chapters specifically for departments and general education. The appendices include sample forms and processes for all types of assessment. A great practical resource for anyone responsible for creating an institutional or departmental assessment program. I know at my institution, faculty and administrators have been looking for something like this that can give them a concrete process for doing assessment. If you have only one book on assessment, this should be it.Other books fill in more about the theory and why, but the theory and why are nothing without implementation. ... Editorial Review

Product Description
The question of the technical phases of education is, with any nation, a vital one. Perhaps this is true of Germany as it is of no other European country. This may be mainly due to one of several causes. First, as to the length of time technical education has had a place in the German schools. In some form or another, and in a greater or lesser degree, such instruction has been in vogue for many years, and has in no small measure become part and parcel of the educational fabric of the nation. Again, throughout the various German States, the work is rather widely differentiated, this owing in part to the fact that the varying lines of industry in adjacent localities even, give color and bent to the technical education of any particular locality. An extensive field is thus comprehended under the term "technical education". ... Read more

Product Description
“Intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character,
that is the goal of true education.”
— Martin Luther King Jr.

As parents, we all want our children to grow up to be responsible citizens and
good people. We want them to learn to feel, think and act with respect for
themselves and for other people. We want them to pursue their own well-being,
while also being considerate of the needs and feelings of others. We want them
to recognize and honor the democratic principles upon which our country was
founded. We want them, in short, to develop strong character.

The cornerstone of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 is academic achievement
and professional success built upon a foundation of moral strength and civic virtue.
As Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings has said, “A quality education
provides citizens with the tools to participate fully in their society.” And the payoffs
for encouraging our children’s character development are enormous. Research
has shown that children who grow up with strong, positive values are happier
and do better in school. They are also better able to balance their personal wants
and needs against those of others and to make positive contributions to society.
On the other hand, if children do not learn proper values and behavior when
they are very young, problems can develop. These problems can mushroom with
serious consequences as children grow older—dropping out of school, drug use,
teenage pregnancy, violent crime—the list goes on.

The most important thing we can do for our children is to help them acquire
values and skills that they can rely on throughout their lives. In doing so, they
will have the best chance to lead good lives as individuals and as citizens of their
communities and of America. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not really flash cards
I bought this for Kindle, hoping that it would be one question per page, with answer on the same or next page as one would expect from flash cards. This is not the case.

This "book" is basically one long web page published as a kindle book. On each screen you have one or more questions and answers, usually broken across page boundaries so you can't even see the whole text of the question or the answer at once. Basically, kind of a bad experience. Also, answer immediately follows each question so you can't really use these as flash cards to test yourself.

There are free phone apps out there that are much better than this thing, and you are also better off making your own paper flash cards.

The only good thing about this book is that it at least has the correct questions and answers, and if you are willing to flip pages, you can sort of use it to quiz someone who is taking the exam. ... Read more
