Nice facsimile, misleading title
This is a facsimile version of a book published much earlier. Although the title of this book implies that it contains all twelve books of geometry written by Euclid, in reality it contains only the first six books. The facsimile table of contents states that there is a second book by the original publisher. Unfortunately, the current publisher has not printed the second book to go with this one. ... Read more

"The Commentary of al-Nayrizi (circa 920) on Euclid's Elements of Geometry" occupies an important place both in the history of mathematics and of philosophy, particularly Islamic philosophy. It is a compilation of original work by al-Nayrizi and of translations and commentaries made by others, such as Heron. It is the most influential Arabic mathematical manuscript in existence and a principle vehicle whereby mathematics was reborn in the Latin West. Furthermore, the Commentary on Euclid by the Platonic philosopher Simplicius, entirely reproduced by al-Nayrizi, and nowhere else extant, is essential to the study of the attempt to prove Euclid's Fifth Postulate from the preceding four. "Al-Nayrizi" was one of the two main sources from which Albertus Magnus (1193-1280), the Doctor Universalis, learned mathematics. neat computer program for proofs
Most of us first encountered Euclidean geometry in primary school. At those ages, it is a branch of maths that can be taught reasonably rigourously. And from which, there are all these memories of how diagrams are used in proofs. What Miller does here is refresh and expand on this diagrammatic approach. Providing a good review of the fundamentals of geometry, if nothing else.

But the present intrudes, in the form of an elegant computer program with a simple text and graphics output. This program can, with some assistance, find, that is, prove some conjectures. It's really awesome when it gives results! ... Read more
