Extractions: www.add.org School and me with ADD Kids with ADD are just as smart as any other kids. So then why do many kids with ADD have trouble in school? It's simple. Many kids have trouble sitting still, paying attention to their work, or being patient and waiting their turn. Some kids get bored quickly and talk too much in class. Many kids lose their work, or forget to turn it in! Some kids need help from teachers, parents, or a counselor to learn how to improve in those things. It's not a big deal to have ADD, but it is important that kids get the help they need. Some kids with ADD have a hard time sitting still or staying in their seat. This is called feeling restless or hyper. It sometimes helps to be able to walk around for a while, but the teacher must agree to this first! Many kids with ADD get bored way too easy, and they have a hard time paying attention to the work they're supposed to be doing in class. They might talk too much or fool around too much which gets them in trouble with the teacher. Or they might disrupt other kids around them, so those kids can't do their work and end up getting mad at them. Other kids don't get hyper in school, they mostly have trouble paying attention to their work or to the teacher. This is called being inattentive. It might help to have the teacher give a reminder (in a nice way!) when the student is daydreaming or fooling around instead of doing their work. It can also help for the student to review instructions on the board, or to raise their hand and ask the teacher if they forget what they're supposed to do.

IPF - Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation Provides information, referrals, workshops and support groups for patients and their families. http://www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org
Extractions: Join the Fight Against Pulmonary Fibrosis - Save Lives - Send in Your Contribution Today!! Respiratory ailments are the third leading cause of death in the United States, responsible for one in seven deaths. The lung disease death rate is climbing while those for heart disease and cancer have dropped. More than 30 million Americans now live, painfully, with lung disease and close to 350,000 die from it every year. Pulmonary Fibrosis is a disease for which, in most cases, there is no known cure. There are five million people worldwide that are affected by this disease. In the U. S. alone 200,000 suffer from this malady. Of these more than 40,000 die annually. This is the same as die from Breast Cancer, more than those who die from Ovarian or Prostate Cancer and forty times more than those who die from Cystic Fibrosis. Yet, Pulmonary Fibrosis does not have the visibility, publicity, or fund-raising networks of these other more prominent medical conditions. However, for those patients who suffer from this dreaded disorder, the debilitating impact is no less severe and is usually fatal. Pulmonary Fibrosis is an illness in which the air sacs or "alveoli" of the lungs are gradually replaced by scar tissue. As the disease progresses the increase in scar tissue interferes with the ability to transfer oxygen from the lungs to the bloodstream. The act of breathing becomes more difficult with the passage of time leading to a condition of general breathlessness or Dyspnea. Simple activities like walking or talking on the phone become difficult. Oxygen therapy is utilized at this point. The patient eventually succumbs to either heart or respiratory failure.
