5-0 out of 5 stars Great Crafts
The crafts in this book are great. There are so many projects in this book that everyone is bound to find one they like. Some are so simple that they are almost ridiculus. Even if you do not think you are a crafty person you will find a craft you can do in this book. As a pre-school teacher I have used various crafts in this book as patterns for larger or more detailed class projects. This is a great buy at a good price.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE this book!
Very nice book on great ideas for Halloween! Of course it does not include ALL of B&G's ideas, because they want you to visit their website and buy their magazines, etc...but for me, this is perfect. LOVE it!!

2-0 out of 5 stars A bit simple
Not that I did not like it at all, but I expected much more, maybe because I am not American and I was not sure what I was buying. There are some nice ideas, but in general, nothing that I have not seen around before and no easy projects to do with kids or so...

5-0 out of 5 stars Hallowgreat!
Love this book as an addition to my Halloween collection. Great inspiration and ideas! A lot of pumpkin themed ideas so if you're decorating with pumpkins, it's a great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific inspiring book - full of inventive ideas!
I am a working mom with not much free time so I was looking for a book with quick and easy craft ideas that I could make with my young daughter. This book is full of great inventive ideas for making simple and cute decorations for the home, easy costumes ideas and yummy snacks that are Halloween themed. We plan on making some of the decorations this weekend. And we are bringing the moody monster muffins and creepy crawlers to a friend's party!

3-0 out of 5 stars Had high expectations...
Don't get me wrong, i did enjoy this book. But i expected a little more out of Better Homes and Gardens. I ordered this at the same time as Matthew Mead's Monster Book of Halloween and to be honest i got a lot more ideas out of Matthew Mead's book. I collect Halloween decorating books so i might be overly critical. I do think this is a good book for anyone starting a collection or for a family as well. Lots of cute ideas! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great crafts!
It's loaded with different types of crafts for Halloween. My friends say I'll have the coolest house for the holiday next year. Can't wait to get started.

1-0 out of 5 stars HUGELY DISAPPOINTING
This book is a compendium of all things tacky and country. Based on the only other review of this book, I assumed it would be a cut above the average country schemed, unsophisticated fare that is so prevalent. WRONG! This book is not for people looking for a more graphic, modern take on Halloween. Instead, it regurgitates all the hackneyed, non-visionary stuff so readily available now. The designs remind me of finding bits and pieces of scraps and putting them together in the most uncompelling, hodge-podge way. If you like country, you'll probably enjoy this book. If not, I suggest you seek elsewhere...

5-0 out of 5 stars Brings you right in the mood

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a winner

5-0 out of 5 stars originality at halloween
This is a great book for the Halloween freak (I am one), who has probably already seen almost everything published in this category. The projects are unique and not too difficult; this saves time in an otherwise very busy month! They appeal to the younger folks as well; book is full of a variety of fun hints, too.Something for everyone, obviously put together by a very creative author.

1-0 out of 5 stars save your money
I was very disappointed in this book.Any fan of Halloween over the years has heard or done everything that this book has to offer. Most of the ideas are very lame or just not practical. Nothing in the book is scary. The only thing that comes even close to creepy amounts to assembling a body out of expensive cuts of meat to form an edible "corpse" which turns out to be the main course for your supper. After looking at it lying on a sheet for hours, who could possibly eat it? Save your money.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK
It was OK.I was a little disappointed, and expected more especially with regards to home decorations and food ideas.I do, however, plan to use the pumpkin puking guacamole idea, so that was worth buying the book. Just don't expect it to be as complete a guide as the product description touts. The pumpkin images were good though, and the tips for working with them were great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Halloween Fanatics Unite!
What's not to love.AWESOME book of pumpkin ideas for the Halloween lover!A must read!

5-0 out of 5 stars What to do when you're really really bored

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific, original ideas that won't break the bank!
Although the cover of my book is different from the one shown (I have the softcover edition), the crafts in this book are clever, easy to make and the directions are top-notch. Some of the crafts require kit purchases (haunted bird house & candy corn candles), but everything else can be crafted from scratch. I especially liked the witch's hat invitations, the cat banner and the cardstock lanterns, lit with glow sticks. I own every Halloween craft book (with the exception of Martha Stewart's) that Amazon offers and this is right at the top of the pile when it's time to think about Halloween. Enjoy! ... Read more

Detailed, step-by-step instructions allow all crafters to create these unique projects, including "Instant Ancestors" (faux gravestones) and a scarecrow wreath -- many could even become family heirlooms. More than 100 beautiful photos show the finished craft as well as guide the reader throughout the creation process. Features: 50 upscale, beautiful, vintage looking Halloween crafts and party recipes; Stunning photos and detailed illustrations; Anecdotes about Halloween past and present.Amazon.com Review
As a regular on TV's Bewitched, Kasey Rogers (Louise Tate) has the right pedigree to produce Halloween Crafts: Eerily Elegant Decor. She and coauthor Mark Wood have dreamed up some pretty innovative approaches to such timeworn Halloween delights as pumpkin carving, table decorating, and party giving. Rather than limit carving to traditional orange pumpkins, they offer devilish red imps made of bumpy gourds and green glow-stick eyes, or a jaunty goblin king carved of green hubbard squash. A decrepit old butler figure presides over the "graveyard tea," and the "harvest of skulls" centerpiece features a tower of grinning plastic skulls topped with drippy black (electric) candles. A quartet of simple recipes makes up the "Boo-fey," along with two versions of punch contributed by another Bewitched alumnus, Bernard Fox (Dr. Bombay). The home-snapshot quality of the photographs is the one weak spot in this otherwise commendable book. Still, enough details are generally visible to help clarify the occasionally confusing directions, and the step-by-steps are mostly adequately explained. A source list provides contact information for the harder-to-find items. --Amy Handy ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Halloween Crafts: Eerily Elegant Decor by Kasey Rogers
This is an excellent book, full of ideas and easy to understand instructions on how to create each project.Kasey Rogers was "Mrs. Tate" on the original "Bewitched" and she and Mark Wood (actor/singer/artist) have put together a wonderfully elegant (if you prefer elegance and mystique over skulls and horror Halloween . . . and I do) book.I also have another book by these authors as well:"Create a Bewitched Fall-o-ween: 45 Projects for Decorating and Entertaining."

Special note to Amazon:Thank you for going above and beyond to find this book for me.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Book For Staters

h

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but it tries hard to disguise the fact!
Since I live in Australia, and Halloween isn't a big deal here, I was looking for something inspirational with clear how-tos to get started with. When I first received this book I was disappointed, but it really started to grow on me!I actually ended up basing most of my decorating on ideas in this book, but I didn't realise it at first! The photos are grainy, and some of the instructions aren't all that clear, but once you get past that, it's not too bad!It has some good ideas for a Halloween first-timer like me, that will actually look a lot better than the photos in the book lead you to believe.Be warned though - most of the ideas involve pumpkins or gourds in one way or another! What this book really needs is a makeover - new photos, and a little re-working on some of the instructions, and it would be great. If glossy photos are your thing, skip this and try Martha Stewart's Halloween book instead, but this one is really a diamond in the rough.

5-0 out of 5 stars Elegant, indeed, but with a sense of spooky fun!
Ideas with class, but practical. That's what I found in this delightful, pretty book. The materials recommended are, refreshingly, things I can actually get (and afford), right here in the isolated, imagination-starved desert of non-creativity where I live. It's so nice to see clearly written, well-conceived craft projects for Halloween that can really be done outside the major coastal metropolitan areas without paying for shipping and waiting six weeks for half the materials!

As far as the style, I grew up on Samantha and company, so it all has a "just right for a grown-up Halloween" feel to it for me. I grew out of gore years ago, but I still know that elegant does not have to equal stiff (as in some of Auntie Martha S's stuff ;->), and cheap doesn't have to equal tacky, if you just add a little personal talent of your own to spice it up. I already had the talent, now I have new ideas, with instructions, pictures, and even text that gently engages my own creative spirit! Lovin' this...

3-0 out of 5 stars Je ne sais quoi...
After seeing how many 5 star reviews this book got I began to think there was something wrong with me.I didn't LOVE this book. One of the 1 star reviewers hit the nail on the head. There is just something about this book that I can't warm up to.The crafts were nice, different than most, but they were somewhat repetitive. Many, many pumpkin, squash, and gourd arrangements. There were a couple of other things interspersed, wreaths, figures, recipes. But mostly it was piles of pumpkins. And there was no joie de vive. Please excuse the French, but to say there was "no joy of life" in the book would sound a little stupid.Halloween is more a celebration of death. But most of the arrangements were dull.

The two sections that caught my eye were the 'Old-Fashioned Party Fans and Favors' in Chapter 7, and Chapter 8. I have a weakness for Halloween collectibles and retro designs. And Chapter 8 had good party advice, like sticking to a theme rather than jumping all around.

The authors are talented, and apparently have a feeling for the holiday, but I would like to see a little more fun, and a little less seriousness. ... Read more

Product Description

Turn your home into the neighborhood fright night center with fast and simple projects you can make yourself, or with the kids’ help. The windows of your front door become a goblin’s glowing, glaring eyes; add a malevolent toothy grin dripping with blood.Hang a papier-mâché Grim Reaper on a porch post, where the breeze will blow him to and fro.You can even make jack-o’-lanterns out of painted stones. Projects abound to create a truly haunted house.
Amazon.com Review
Filled with the requisite bats, skeletons, pumpkins, and lots of ghosts, Ghostly Frights for Halloween Nights offers dozens of projects to bedeck house and garden for a month of spooking. Wooden-spoon-face ghouls dressed in glittery fabric scraps cluster among dead leaves in the front yard. Papier-mâché spheres shaped over balloons become a bat piñata, an owl lantern, or skull-headed maracas. Kids can help with some of the easiest projects, or they can enjoy the fruits of grownups' labor by counting down to the big day with an October version of the advent calendar, or play Dr. Frankenstein by reassembling a brightly colored monster body. The sometimes-murky directions and occasionally confusing (though graphically appealing) illustration diagrams are generally clarified by the color photos of the finished products, and most of the projects are fairly simple anyway. With the exception of the more-complex stitching projects (stuffed chameleon, peek-a-boo quilt, witch doll), novices should be able to handle most of these items. --Amy Handy ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing new here
The book is cleverly laid out, with good illustraions and cute cartoons, but the craft ideas are really lame. If you're looking for interesting or unusual ideas, try Hocus Pocus: Halloween Crafts for a Spooktacular Holiday by Martingale and Company. Everything from invitations to decorations and food.

3-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful photos....but the crafts...???
I bought this book at a deep discount thinking I would be able to whip up all kinds of wonderful Halloween spooky things to decorate my house with. The pictures on the front cover looked promising.
However, when I opened it up and looked inside, I realized that a lot of the crafts were very cheap. And I don't mean cheap as in money wise. I mean as in cheaply made, that they were not likely to last more than one season. It's my thought that if you put time and effort in to a display, you should be able to reuse it!
Another thing was the inclusion of wierd things like a pattern for a chameleon. Lizards in general are scary, but isn't Halloween usually reserved for snakes and toads? I don't find chameleons too intimidating, personally.
And a third thing was the bits of information in the book about the holiday...a few were incorrect, or were based on popular assumptions and not on actual research. Being that I'm a Halloween buff, I've researched this stuff so I know it's wrong, but maybe other people don't care that much. If not, the blurbs of info are entertaining.
I'm keeping the book because it has3 or 4 really cute projects that would come out nicely, and the pictures are great for other ideas (One gave me the idea to create a spooky birdcage with a raven in it.)
All in all...it's a good one to supplement if you have several other books on Halloween decorating, but I wouldn't suggest this be your only book.
