1-0 out of 5 stars so disappointing
i agree with the last post before mine... this book was terrible..a book about recipes...costumes....decorations and so on REQUIRES pictures..... awful book.....simply awful

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this book
I ordered this book along with The Big Book of Halloween Fun (Paperback), both authored by Susie Johns. Both were tremendous disappointments. This book lacks in imagination and more important for Halloween ideas . . . PHOTOS!As filler the author slips in childish Halloween jokes and offers very little in the way of Halloween decorating.I would not buy this book again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Craft activities to do with your grandchild
This craft book helps me plan activities with my grandchildren that are interesting for them and for me. It helps pass time when we do not have other activities scheduled. I like the picture of each project along with the list of items needed. Regularly purchase and save common items needed for projects and keep them in a central place. Having supplies available for a number of possible projects is indeed helpful as I never know which project will hold the most interest for my grandchild.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice collection of craft ideas
I bought this book to use with my grandchildren, aged 4 and 8.I like the spiral binding, and most of the ideas are good for children this age, as advertised--give or take a year or so either way, depending on the child. The best part is the recyle/reuse aspect of this collection. The materials are readily available and the concept sparks related ideas for creative "green" children's projects.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Crafts for Every Holiday!
This is a fantastic book for parents, teachers, or anyone who likes to make crafts.Moms and teachers especially are always looking for ways to make crafts that don't cost much. This book shows you how to make really cute and original projects out of things we would recycle (or throw away!).I recommend it highly!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great craft book for kids
I got this book for my 5 year old daughter and 5 year old niece. They both love to make things and loved the items in this book. My daughter wanted to make so many things for each holiday, we didn't come close to making all of them. There are some items that are a bit lame, but the others make the book worth it. I only had to buy a few low cost craft items like felt squares, pipe cleaners, ribbon, and the like to make the items in the book. Everything else we had in the house (egg cartons, construction paper, material scraps, ...).
If you have "crafty kids" this is a good idea book for them. It would also be good for preschools, elementary schools, and churches. ... Read more

Product Description
Halloween is rivaled only by Christmas when it comes to the holidays that generate the most interest for Martha Stewart Living’s readers. Halloween is a compendium of the best Halloween ideas published in the magazine over the last decade.

To help celebrate this ghoulish holiday, the editors of Martha Stewart Living bring us Halloween, a compilation of all the best tricks and treats of the spooky season.

Organized in two sections, Halloween makes this holiday so much fun it’s scary. In “Tricking,” pranksters will find all manner of pumpkin carving, eerie lighting, and makeup and decorating ideas. “Treating” provides the recipes for having a Halloween feast or a hanted-house party and ideas for making mischief with kids.Amazon.com Review
Halloween books abound, but none is as elegantly spooky or as eerily opulent as this gorgeous guide from Martha Stewart Living. Set the scene for the ultimate Halloween party with a magical yard full of pumpkins glowing with vibrant geometrics and sparkling with Christmas lights. Welcome guests with shadow lanterns flickering with bats and haunted windows. Strew the house with chiffon ghosts and fill the air with haunting sounds. Then host a pumpkin-carving feast, a crafty party, or a ghoulish supper, and whip up eyeball highballs, croaked messieurs, and spider-web sundaes. And don't forget the creepy makeup: follow along as willing victims transform into a skeleton, mummy, and several other creatures (Martha herself becomes an astonishing black widow). Excellent directions, full recipes, beautiful photographs, and an extremely detailed source list should inspire anyone to celebrate All Hallows' Eve with style. --Amy Handy ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great collection of some of Martha's Best
I am a Halloween fanatic. And when I discovered that Martha Stewart was also a Halloween fanatic, I just couldn't wait to see what she would do with Halloween decorating. This book is a nice collection of some of her best or memorable projects for Halloween decorating. I think it's a great collection for someone who just wants a basic overview of how Martha does Halloween. But after getting it, I ended up hunting down several of the magazines that these projects came from. It was a lot more effort and costly than buying the book, but I'm glad I did, because the mags from which these projects come contain SO MANY more awesome projects! So, if you want a quick and affordable overview, this is a great buy. But if you really want to collect ALL of her fantastic Halloween projects, I'd say either spend the time and dough to hunt down the mags they came from, OR simply go to [...]...her website is HUGE and contains pretty much everything she has ever done! :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for Fans, Great for Halloween Lovers
If you are a collector of Martha's Halloween Holiday Magazines then this book is just a compilation of all her awesome ideas over the years from those particular magazines. But as far as being all about Halloween decorating, this book is pretty much the best one I can think of. The photography and layout of the book is really good and constantly inspires me to get new ideas every time I read it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great crafts, treats, costumes and more!
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and this book has some great ideas for crafts, costumes and food. One of the best halloween inspired snacks was for ladies fingers and men's toes, I brought these to a Halloween party and they were a big hit.
The crafts and recipes in this book are fairly easy to make with planning. Don't try to pull anything off at the last minute. But with some planning and the right tools/ingredients you can achieve a really beautiful finished product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great
Halloween is not a big deal here in Australia, so I was looking for a inspirational book with plenty of how-tos and ideas...I bought this book after combing the Martha Stewart website, expecting more of the same great stuff.I was a little disappointed when it arrived.Still a good book, but I'd recommend going though the website first - a lot of the stuff in this book is contained there anyway. The book has a very appealing look, and is still a good read, but for sheer volume of ideas, all with easy instuctions, use the website.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice ideas although a bit pricey
This is a good book but I couldn't help thinking that with some time I could find all these ideas online. But if you want a Halloween idea book for your holiday collection this is a great book and Martha's ideas are timeless and fresh.I don't regret buying it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars NOT about haunted Houses!!!
BEWARE!This is about being a GEEK, not designing, setting up, or haunting a house. If you want to stick needles through your skin, get this book.If you want to build a headless statue or some other haunted house prop (like ME) then DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!It's fine for what it is; title should be: "dress up and do creepy tricks" not how to haunt a house.

Happy Halloween!Amazon.com Review
Cocoa Cobweb Cupcakes, Black Cat Cookies, and Stained-GlassSpooks are just a few of the spirited tastes you'll encounter inDonata Maggipinto's delightful Halloween Treats. But it's notjust recipes--you and your favorite little goblin will love creatingspooky craft projects such as Candy Cauldrons, Leaf Lanterns, andPaper Bag Pumpkins together in anticipation of All Hallows'Eve. Maggipinto includes craft ideas for "Pixies" (children 4-8 yearsold) as well as older children, and nearly every recipe includes asafe task for younger helpers. (For example, while mom or dad shouldheat the milk for hot cocoa, kids can roll and stamp out marshmallowghosts as accompaniment.) A few of the craft ideas will require a tripto the art supply store (such as lampshade paper for the very niftyflashlight lanterns), but Maggipinto leaves plenty of room for themagical combination of imagination and found objects. Her great"fanciful masks" are dime-store masks decorated with autumn leaves, candy wrappers, feathers, or anything else you might have at hand.

Maggipinto believes that Halloween festivities should last for atleast a week; you'll find enough project instructions and recipes herefor a month of Halloween fun. Grownups will love her Halloween dinnerparty menu (with Pumpkin Crackle Custard for dessert!) and kids canhelp by making corn kernel napkin rings and three-tiered pumpkincenterpieces. If you're looking for costume ideas, you won't find themhere--the book is focused firmly on kitchen and decoration fun--butthe beautifully illustrated Halloween Treats is a wonderfultreasure trove of tricks and treats that every family will enjoyworking on together. --Rebecca A. 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun book
I've collected a lot of Halloween books over the years, and some of them have been real duds. I was relieved this was not one of those. The pics are cozy, there are some fun decorating ideas, and I found the recipes creative and different. I highly recommend both the book and the seller.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute
This book is cute and has some fun ideas but not all the items have pictures and there is a lot of "adult" oriented food in there which is not why I bought it. A few cute ideas but I suggest buying it used to get your moneys worth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Pictures, Good Recipes, Fun Ideas
I have had this book for sometime now, and I always break it out for for my halloween parties. The pumpkin curry soup recipe is sooo yummy, and the pictures and crafts are inpiring! If you are in the 20-35 year old set, I would reccomend this book!

3-0 out of 5 stars More trick than treat
Some of the ideas were cute and worth trying. But, for the most part, it is not worth the money.I loved the pictures, which were the best part of the book.I plan on trying some of the ideas, but depending on the age ofyour children, it's not really a family oriented book.I lost interestvery rapidly, as did my 4 and 7 year olds.

4-0 out of 5 stars great photos, inspiring ideas
It was so hot here in AZ this fall, I needed a jumpstart to get into the Halloween spirit. This was just the book. Great photos and seasonal recipes made me run out to buy sweet potatoes for making the baked chips! Ienvisioned keeping them on hand for lunches and snacks, but they were gonein a day. The black cats were cute, too, but we all suffered with blacktongues after the fact. Plenty of other cute ideas for little ones.

Ifyou want Julia Child, don't buy this book; but if you want a holiday read, with great pictures and some nice recipes, find a notch on your bookshelffor this one. ... Read more

The Halloween Book is a veritable gold mine of creepy crafts to make Halloween the most spine-tingling night of the year. Unearthly decorations ("Silhouette Windows," "Flickering Faces," "Jeering Jars"), exquisitely eerie dress-up ideas ("Fearsome Features," "Creepy Costumes,"), and delectably ghastly goodies ("Buckets of Treats," "Beastly Buffet," "Hanging Horrors," "Cauldron Cocktails," "Spooky Potions") will provide days of creative fun leading up to the haunted holiday. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good place to start
This book is great for school crafts and kids' party ideas. I bought this book to use in a school setting and found it useful. The crafts are simple, but when you're working with 15 kids, that is what you want. Loved the lanterns, and they are a nice alternative/addition to carving pumpkins. They look good at adult parties too.

The party food was also doable. Easy to make and looks & tastes good. Kids/adults will actually eat it and laugh! Liked the mood and layout, spooky without being gory. It's fun to just look through!

Only wish that it was more extensive.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice but...
This really is a beautiful book with great pictures and easy to follow directions.Totally aimed for kids to be able to handle.I gave this book three stars because while it is nicely illustrated it is very short (48 pages) and not totally orignal.I suggest borrowing it from your local library. But before you write it off here are some good points: while the crafts are really simple (create your own stickers or window silhouette picture) when you actually give them a chance and do them you will be pleased with the results.I thought the sticker were lame but something easy for my toddler to do.I was surprised how cool they turned out.I will use them in group craft projects again for other seasons as well. I liked the idea of Dangling Doughnuts. If you have a toddler like me, bobbing for apples can be very difficult and this was a cute alternative. The drink ideas were great. The food ideas were easy to make but bewared the recipes are not writen in cups and tablespoon but in grams and ounces. Cookies are called biscuits and cup cakes are called fairy cakes. It also calls for plain and self rising flours and icing sugar. Not being an expirenced cook I had to find out what these were and what would happen if I used just all purpose flour. But if you know what they are, then there is no problem. The book is worth looking at, but buying...check the library first. It wasn`t a total waste of money but I wish there had been more to it.

4-0 out of 5 stars A LITTLE SHORT BUT SOME NICE PROJECTS
I've always been on the DK books for being a bit on the short side.I know they're aiming them for kids but a little more bang for your buck would be great. That said the book does come with some worthwhile and fairly inexpensive decorations and tasty receipes to make for kids parties. And I do say younger kids, and not quite the 9 - 12 age group that the listing says it's geared to.More like 3 - 7.

The Window silhouettes, while not new are well-done and they always make a good display if you have the proper lighting. There's tips on decorating your pumpkin and traditional games like Dangling Donuts. Most of it you may have seen before.Like all DK books it's bright and bold and the photography is first-rate.Not bad.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lavish picture book of Halloween tips for kids
This is a fun book aimed at the younger set filled with a nice sprinkling of Halloween costumes, recipes, crafts, andparty ideas. The ideas are by no means original, but as a mom and Halloween-freak , I found this book to be a good inspiration to cooking up your own ideas. (The monster sandwiches are priceless! )The photos are lovely, the printed varnished pages crisp and bright -- I can practically smell the pumpkin pie when I crack it open.

3-0 out of 5 stars Halloween crafts for kids, but not much inspiration
If you're looking for a Halloween craft book for kids, this may be what you want, but the crafts are very simple and the format suggests that it was intended for use by or with children. There are some cute ideas, like the window silhouettes and the paper mache treat bag, but the costumes and makeup techniques are strictly for beginners. If this was a book for children, the title or subtitle should have indicated it. If you're an adult looking for really clever crafts for Halloween, check out Halloween Decorating or Halloween: 101 Frightfully Fun Ideas (Better Homes & Gardens). ... Read more

Many people think that Halloween is a “devil worshiping” holiday celebrated by people who don’t believe in God. The truth is that Halloween hadits basic origins in the Catholic Church!Halloween means “All Saints Eve” or “All Hallows Eve”.

All Saints Day is a religious holiday observed by the Catholic Church and set aside for worship of all the saints in heaven. They used to consider it with all solemnity as one of the most significant observances of the Church year.

The American origin of Halloween extends further from the Celts celebration of Samhain (pronounced sow – in) which is a Druidic festival made to celebrate the end of the harvest.

Halloween is celebrated around the world in many countries with all sorts of customs and traditions.

The best part about making Halloween crafts is that it is something that the whole family can do! 3-0 out of 5 stars For the Hard-Core Halloween Nut
This is not a book of party ideas. It is a book for the turn-your-front-lawn-and basement-into-a-Halloween-horror-show-wonderland type. Level of difficulty and cost are extreme. There are no 'crafts' in this book, but rather advice on how to make amature-theatre quality props and special effects. I have some doubt whether all of these ideas are actually even workable.

However, if you are not the average casual Halloween person, and the neighbors are good sports, then this should be your bible!

5-0 out of 5 stars More intensive pranks
I enjoyed the creativity in this book.If you have the time and the finances, you can create some really great stuff!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great For Beginners!
Anyone who ever wanted to decorate their yard or house while growing up, or those who are still growing up & want to decorate, this is the book for you!
The ideas outlined are simple & low tech, showcasing basic props and scares that even an old pro can fall back on.
Highly entertaining, filled with spectacularly drawn characatures this book is sure to show one & all the basics in haunting.
Happy Hauntings!

4-0 out of 5 stars A good book
This book had many great ideas most of them fairly easy!!! It was written very well, and was fun just to read. Many of the ideas involve having actors involved just to jump out.

5-0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS WRITER!
This book is hysterical! This author is so talented...not only does he write the book (and the ideas are tremendous), but he also illustrated the whole thing (and the pictures are little black and white cartoons that make you laugh out loud!).I would recommend this book to not only Halloween fans like myself (and such great ideas inside this book if you love to have fun with scaring the wits out of the older kids...no small ones, could be a father waiting in the wings), but to people who want a good laugh and some great ideas.
Wonderful book - A+! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Halloween Celebrations - not really much detail
To be honest I bought this book BEFORE I read other feedback, which I now know was a mistake. The book arrived much quicker than I had anticipated which was a bonus but it still leaves a lot to be desired. Personally I think for the price it should be much more substantial and detailed. I don't think there's a single thing in it that I haven't already thought of or done myself in past years. I purchased it for inspiration but am sadly disappointed.

2-0 out of 5 stars Light on..
Nice photos, and some good ideas, but there are so few of them!Has the potential to be great, but it's just too short.Divided into sections, with 3 or 4 items in each. The title says it all: 'shown in 120 photographs'.Lots of photos, little to actually read. What's there is good, but there's just not enough of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive guide with some excellent recipes
Halloween tends to be an interesting time of year in the Redhart household. Personally I am always ready to get into the party mood, although in the past there has rarely been so much as a 'ghost' of a chance that my wife might join in. Indeed, Doreen has always demonstrated a rather pronounced level of disdain for youngsters- the roots of which could probably be traced back to the birth of our daughter Dawn. Sadly the careless 'mistakes' that have since led to the arrivals of both Horace and Crispin did little to change her mind about the merits of children. Anyhow, although Doreen would never participate, I have had some cracking parties in the past. Sadly, however, in 2006 Doreen decided to ban Halloween altogether, much to the fury of the trick or treaters who came to our door...

Well, you should have seen the mess our house was in that night! There was rude graffiti daubed across the garage wall, an assortment of rubbish strewn all over the lawn (including a USED contraceptive!), and traces of human excrement smeared down the lounge windows. Indeed, with the house already in such a terrible state, I wouldn't have thought that a few Halloween pranks could very well have made things any worse. How wrong I was! Much as I would like to think that we are part of a highly respectable neighbourhood, I wouldn't deny that there are a few unsavoury kids in the community. However, the last thing I would have expected to receive through my window was a pig's head tied to a brick!

Anyhow, Doreen was absolutely furious! While she can be grumpy at the best of times, she was sorely unimpressed at having a severed head invade the privacy of our bedroom at 2 am (although, by the next day, she had calmed down enough to use it as the basis for a very lovely stew). Still, last Halloween, Doreen seemed to have learned her lesson from this incident, for she picked up a copy of this extremely helpful book and set about organising celebrations herself! I am pleased to say that we had an absolutely cracking party! The book covers anything and everything, including party games and how to make scary costumes (which Doreen had never previously been known to wear- aside from her négligée, that is!). There are also some very wise recipes for healthier alternatives to sweets and chocolate. Indeed, when trick or treaters came to the door, they were greeted by a cackling, gap-toothed old witch (kitted out in a werewolf costume) who was extremely generous about handing out some nutritious (yet tasty!) treacle flapjacks. How surprising it was to see Doreen getting into the swing of things with quite such verve! It was only later on that I discovered an empty bottle of high-strength laxative solution in the kitchen bin, but I'm afraid it was already far too late to do anything about it. Some of the kids who called by had been wearing extremely high-quality costumes. If they had been hired from a fancy dress shop, they almost certainly would have had to put down a sum of money that would be retained in the event of damage. Yes, let's just hope that any 'deposits' that were left on the costumes were not especially sizeable!

PS. While Doreen must take full responsibility for her unconscionable actions, I can't help but feel that a fair chunk of blame lies at my own two feet. A few days after the pig's head came crashing into my home, I found out that it was actually a reminder from Mickey 'Gold Teeth' O'Flanagan about my considerable debts on the greyhound track- but, of course, I wasn't exactly going to tell Doreen about that!

1-0 out of 5 stars Lame from start to finish!
I just received this book, which I pre-ordered last August. What a disappointment! Boring recipes for things like pumpkin soup and pumpkin muffins, boring costumes (cat, skeleton, vampire) and boring decorations. This book was previously published as Trick or Treat, and now has new photos, but isn't worth the price of shipping, much less the cost of the book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Halloween fun for the family
There are a number of Halloween books out on the market for decorating, baking and costume making, but this is one of the few that actually hassomething new in it!

The crafts are clever, but actually look doable wtih things you might already have on hand. The costumes ideas are fun and innovative, the food ideas are also really cute, but not overly-complicated.While some classic ideas never die, this book puts a nice twist on things like "body parts" games.

Of course, the ideas come from the monthly magazine that Disney produces, Family Fun, and if you get the magazine, you'll have already seen alot of these things in print or on their website. Still, the book is nicely layed-out, easy to flip through and a good resource of party and costume ideas for both kids and their grown-ups.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased
This book is an awesome resource for make-at-home costumes and decorations. The ideas are so cute, easy to follow, and where else can you find a recipe for slime?

2-0 out of 5 stars SADLY DISAPPOINTED
