A comprehensive, empathetic guide for anyone suffering from this serious liver disease

Approximately 4 million Americans and 170 million people worldwide suffer from hepatitis C, a viral liver disease that is treatable but not curable. It accounts for more than 40 percent of U.S. liver disease deaths–about 8,000 to 10,000 people annually–and is the most common reason for liver transplantation. This compassionate guide explains how hepatitis C affects the liver and the body and provides solid advice on today’s treatment options–from drugs (and their side effects) to transplants and alternative therapies–as well as tips on dealing with the emotional and financial burdens the disease brings with it.

Nina L Paul, PhD (New York, NY) earned her doctorate in infectious disease epidemiology and immunology from Yale University. She has researched viruses (human immunodeficiency virus and others) and the immune system. ... Read more

Product Description
Death Sentence from a DoctorThe words seemed to fall from her lips like they were encased in lead, " You only have eight months to live." At first,I could not believe what I was hearing. It was like I was having a nightmare, without being asleep. The Doctor went on, "You will need a liver transplant, and extensive drug therapy." What? After the initial shock wore down some, I rejected this option. No! I refused to become yet another statistic. Hepatitis C was doing it's dreaded best to suck the life blood right out of me, yet I was not going to have it.In our youth, we all seem to have a way of convincing ourselves that we are bullet proof, and that things like this "did not happen to us." Yet here I was, surrounded by Doctors and nurses, all looking at me like I was but an inscription on a headstone. Things like this have a way of shaking us to the very core of our foundation. I was shook. One of the most powerful elements in my total recovery, was my determination. I would not give up the hope, that somehow I would look back on this day and think, "the Devil swung at me, and missed."We all have choices to make in everyday life. I chose to live and not die young. You too, have the same choice. Humans have an in-born desire to continue living, even when facing incredible odds. I used this desire to fuel my determination to beat this. Learn what I did, and how I did it. The purpose of this book, is to share with others the exact things I did, and how I did them. Build a fire within yourself, use that fire to do something positive. Today my Doctors are amazed to find that I now have the liver of a twenty-year old! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Is a Page Turner
This is an important book because it offers real hope to victims of who might have thought there was no hope. If you or someone you know has hepatitis C, this book could be the gift you're looking for.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected but good.
HEPATITIS C, CURED, is not so much a "how to" rid yourself of hep c book, as it is a story of the author's personal journey with it.It gives you a friend who you can share his experiences with you so that you feel less alone and so that you feel someone else out there knows what you are going through.
I moderate the yahoo group HepCWebWarriors and I oversee http://www.healthyhepper.com so I am very interested in this subject.
I think it is a great book for those that have decided to pursue natural therapies. He does give you his regime but it may be difficult to replicate all the components and a bit costly (though if it worked, it would be worth the money!).However, his actual recommendations to others are not costly nor do they promote any particular company.
This book will inspire you to be proactive in your search for a cure and to never give up hope.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resouce!
I began reading the book tonight and couldn't put it down. This paperback is packed with solid, scientific information that's not oversimplified, but is easy to understand. The chapters cover the history of Hep C, risks, diagnosis, conventional treatment, food and dietary supplements to armor your immune system, herbs, emotional and psychological issues, extreme remedies and liver transplants, as well as healing resources, etc.I appreciated the author's distinctions between fact and fiction, her clear dietary strategies, and recommendations on who should try certain remedies and who should avoid them. The section on how to understand lab results was especially useful and will help prepare the person diagnosed with Hep C for medical visits. The statistics were appreciated and actually helped quell some of my own anxieties about the course of this disease. There is hope, especially for those who are willing to take care of themselves.I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn more about Hepatitis C.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best book on HCV
I have Hepatitis C and I have read every book that Amazon sells on the subject of Hepatitis C and then some. This is a gem, the best, most objective information you will find out there. I appreciate the fact that the authors are open to alternative treatments but most importantly they are not puppets for the pharmaceutical industry. Great care needs to be taken when reading the extreme approaches to treating HCV. On the one hand you have internationally renowned hepatologists who liken the side effects of milk thistle to interferon and on the other hand, those who give you outright dangerous advice like Shark Cartilage & Colloidial Silver treatments. "Living Healthy with Hepatitis C" provides well-balanced, good advice. I also recommend the PDR for Supplements and the PDR for Herbal Medicines.

5-0 out of 5 stars Authoritative and warm
This book struck exactly the right chord for the hepatitis C sufferer who is feeling overwhelmed but wants scientifically rigorous information in a form that he or she can use. It is full of clear, factual answers to the question every hep C positive person has, with the scientific bases explained well but in a nonintimidating way.

But it also tackles those thornier questions of how to find a doctor who shares your personal style, how to avoid the "snake oil" faction of alternatives while making sure your lifestyle supports your chances for getting well and how to increase your chances of a successful liver transplant if you need oneIt's pragmatic and positive. ... Product Description
Hepatitis C is a potentially fatal virus that attacks the liver. According to the Centers for Disease Control, Hepatitis C has already infected an estimated four to five million Americans, and worldwide it may have infected as many as 200 million. Most experts agree that if the rate of Hepatitis C infection isnÂ’t curbed soon, it will eventually kill more people each year than AIDS.

However, Hepatitis C is not always fatal, and it can be fought successfully. For many who suffer from the virus, eating properly can delay the end stages leading to cirrhosis of the liver. It also can diminish the uncomfortable symptoms of the disease.

The Hepatitis C Cookbook has been prepared with the special dietary needs of people suffering from Hepatitis C in mind. Hepatitis C does not have to make eating a miserable experience. By using medical guidelines, the Hepatitis C Cookbook provides a road map to healthy, tasty foods to eat and enjoy. Following these dietary changes can also make a significant difference in oneÂ’s attitude as well as the variety, severity, and frequency of symptoms. All of these considerations can enhance the quality of life for anyone suffering from the disease.

All of the recipes are based on the dietary guidelines provided by the medical profession for Hepatitis C. They also have been tested by Hepatitis C patients. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
I work as an acupuncturist and herbalist with a speciality in hepatitis C. I also give continuing education classes to other acupuncturists in California for the use of Chinese Herbs with hepatitis patients. In addition I spent a month in Beijing, much of which was studying their treatments of chronic hepatitis. This book is first book I suggest for both patients and practitioners to read. It is well written and offers a broad range of approaches. For those who are scientifically minded it gives the specific answers without talking down to those who aren't. For those who are "consumers" it gives practical advise without being condescending. It is apparent that the author has interacted with many, many patients and his relaxed and comforting attitude shows in the book, as well most welcomed, a sense of humor. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite book on hepatitis!
It answered my questions in a way that I could understand. It even explained symptoms that I was having which my doctor seemed to have no concept of. It gave legitamacy to my symptoms, to my feelings, to my experience. I knew I was not alone. Brain fog! So that's what it's called! I had no idea other people were having this too. His book gave me confidence. I can not say enough about what it did for me emotionally to know I wasn't going crazy. I had real symptoms, perhaps ones not totally understood by science yet.

This book taught me what I needed to know about this disease to feel that I understand enough to face it. Knowledge truly is empowering and sometimes our best weapon. The book is a rational look at what Hep C is and it is the most comprehensive I have found. I also like the truly balanced way in which all available therapies (conventional and complimentary) are outlined. No bias, no bashing, no advocating this over that, just presenting all our options. This is what so many books don't do. That is what I loved the most about it.That is what I try to do on my website
http://www.healthyhepper.com

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Changing
I cannot recommend this book any stronger to anyone dealing with Hep C, directly or indirectly. This book changed everything I thought I knew about this horrible disease. It will help me save the life of someone very close to me that battles with this biological terrorist everyday. The only appalling thing about this book is that it is so cheap. The author was so thorough it almost seems like a steal. YOU MUST BUY THIS BOOK...

5-0 out of 5 stars triumph over hepatitis c
This book was fabulous! I called and spoke to Lloyd Wright who was sincere and down to earth. He has done the research for us and I am going to start his program very soon now. This book is informative and offers hope for hep c sufferers who are looking for an alternative to interferon that has been tested and found to work.God bless Lloyd for sharing this with all of us. He has done his homework and hopefully, this program of supplements and lifestyle change will work for those of us who try it. I was ready to try ozone therapies which I read were effective but thisprogram is cost effective.Good luck to anyone who reads and tries this natural approach to get rid of a very serious virus!

5-0 out of 5 stars AN EXCELLENT STORT OF ONE MAN,
AN EXCELLENT STORT OF ONE MAN, BUT IT cAN'T BE APPLIED TO EVERY ONE-CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR

4-0 out of 5 stars what I needed to know
This was the first book i turned to after diagnosis and this is where I learned how to take care of myself. I still refer to this book, 2 years later. Lot's of useful information.

5-0 out of 5 stars BUY IT!READ IT!
I can absolutely relate to the author's illness and desperation, because I'm where he used to be.HCV is manageable up to a point, but after that point, one begins asking if it's not time to choose between quality of life and quantity of life. Those of us who have failed to slay the dragon by conventional means have very little hope, unless you want to call "hoping" for liver cancer in order to get a transplant a viable option. It's that, or sit around and wait to die.

I've met one individual who has beat the virus using this method, and while I've always pooh-poohed alternative therapies, I've come to the comclusion that "modern medicine" isn't all it's cracked up to be.This book gives me hope--not necessarily that I can eradicate the disease (although that would be wonderful), but that I can live a relatively normal and healthy lifespan.

In some cases, conventional medicine only offers a 30% cure rate for HCV.The treatment is extremely rigorous and there's no guarentee at all there's a pot of gold at the end of this ugly 24 to 48-week long rainbow. It's all a crap shoot. This author offers another method, and if it only works as often as conventional treatments, it's worth looking into.

I urge anyone who has HCV or knows someone with this awful disease to buy the book and read it.Even if you choose not to follow this method, it'll be there waiting when "modern medicine" boots you out the door and slams it shut because there's nothing left to do.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this book
Please don't kill yourself and follow this book. I have 2 adoptive daughters who have Hep B. One has a Hep D co-infection and is following the Hep C treatment which is interferon. Interferon cures about 70% of Hep C patients, so you do have treatment options. Milk thistle and other herbs just don't do anything, no matter what this quack says. There is no conspiracy. Hep C like all chronic hepatitis cases has a spontaneous cure rate meaning the body will cure the virus by itself. Nothing in this book changes the spontaneous cure rate. So there is lots of anecdotal evidence of cures but these "cures" are just not caused by anything this book recommends.

I know a diagnosis of Hepatitis is a scary thing. There are some great books on living with Hepatitis and managing the condition, this is not one of them. See your doctor, follow her advice, eat right, get some exercise, enjoy life, and do not buy this book. ... Read more

I am a liver patient and this book was referenced numerous times on a message board.I decided to buy it and was thrilled to find that Dr. Palmer answered all the questions I had that were not necessarily answered by my liver doctor. Her explanations are clear and concise.I would recommend this book to anyone with liver disease as well as family members because it is written in a clear, articulate style.

5-0 out of 5 stars Liver Bible
This is the book to answer all the questions when a loved one has been diagnosed with hepatitis. Easy to understand.

1-0 out of 5 stars Same old song
This is a very Biased book toward western medicine. All alternative therapies and herbs, vitamins are considered worthless and extremely dangerous. All research about any thing to the contrary is ignored, Like Milk thistle which has alot of medical research behind it, is considered dangerous and not to be touched unless you have a crufix handy. Good basic information about liver disease but hard to get past the Western doctor, Iam god complex.

5-0 out of 5 stars "You Have Hepatitis. What Now?"
"You have hepatitis!"Frightening words to so many people.Too many patients hear those words and are left in a state of fear - what does that mean?, what do I do now?, will I die?, what about my family?, can they catch it?
As a psychiatrist my professional job is to allay anxiety.Surprise to know that the best weapon against anxiety is not medication, but education. The adage, "know your enemy" carries the truth that "knowledge is power".We fear the unknown.
In counseling my patients who discover that they have liver disease in oneform or another, the patient, the family and my own greatest ally is knowledge gained from Dr. Mellisa Palmer herself, or through sharing the knowledge imparted by her book, "Dr. Melissa Palmer's Guide to Hepatitis and Liver Disease".
This book is a masterfully crafted volume easily understandable to all who live with, suffer from or treat liver dysfunction. The information contained in these four hundred plus pages is invaluable.
Borrow it from your library or from a friend, but, better yet - own your own copy for easy reference to any question, any anxiety, about your disorder right there at your finger tips.

A FIVE STAR ADDITION IN TIME OF NEED.

5-0 out of 5 stars Conquering Hepatitis C And Surviving Treatment
This book is a must read for anyone on or contemplating Hepatitis C treatment. There is really nothing out there that is written by, and for people with Hepatitis C. Conquering Hepatitis C And Surviving Treatment provides real life testimonials at the beginning of each chapter which is followed up with well written advice and information.
It will get you through treatment with the best chance of being cured. The accompanying website provides almost real-time support. The book was written by people who have been "in the trenches" knowledge of Hepatitis C treatment, and who have 30 + years of extensive medical expertise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide
An easy to read, informative guide for anyone who has HCV, who in currently in treatment or thinking about treatment, and for family members of anyone with the virus. Also an important read for health care providers. The personal stories are interesting and keep the book flowing. The chapters are detailed and leave nothing out. For me, it really helped me to understand what my family member was going through.A+

5-0 out of 5 stars "Look" Here For Answers
I was asked my first month after combined treatment if I would like to contribute to this book. I typed away at my story, and pressed the send button after completing. And here it is in book form. Kind of surreal to hold in my hands, and turn to the chapter where my contribution is. An honor, and a privilege, to be involved.

After finding out I had contracted Hepatitis C in 2008, I looked in the bookstores, and here on Amazon for a book that might give me clues to what it was I had, and what I was to do to eradicate it. Nothing jumped out at me, begging to be read. And so I went about Doctors, and treatment more or less, learning things as I went on. On the Internet, I joined a discussion website on the subject. Was OK. Not anything I would recommend.

What I do strongly recommend, is this book. And not solely because I'm a contributor. I did read this whole book. Twice. That said, and also now having been through combined treatment, I can say it contains vital information that frankly said, is a must have ingredient if one plans of having a fighting chance against this disease.

An added bonus is that between the lines, one can tell that the authors really cared about what they were writing here. Made for a more enjoyable read. Very hard to do considering the subject matter.

Companion to this book, is a website; hcvshare dot org.A very welcome environment. The authors actually do check in from time to time. It's a cool Internet Community. I call it home. Containing practical, and needed information. Subscribers are very friendly, and down to Earth. From "newbies" to those who have completed combined treatment, like myself.

Both together, the book and companion website is a wonderful package that I didn't have going through my journey, but am grateful it's now here for others to use.

Fighting Hepatitis C is hard. For the one who has it, and for those loving friends and family members who are there to be of assistance. There is help. Keep the book by your side, and check in with the website when possible. One can never have too much guidance, and support when it comes to something like this.

Product Description

A fully updated and revised edition of an important health guide, including the latest information on optimum interferon protocol.

Hepatitis C has been called "the emergent and preeminent public-health problem of the twenty-first century--surpassing HIV." It has also been dubbed "The Shadow Epidemic," because it is one of the most clandestine of viruses and infects healthy people who have no idea they are being attacked by something they can't even detect. Now, the two experts on Hepatitis C who teamed up to write the first comprehensive guide to orthodox and alternative treatment options have revised and fully updated the book to include recent findings in the field. Along with programs for self-care, nutritional and fitness plans and a comprehensive Western and Chinese medical treatment program, the revised edition also includes important new self-help information for the growing number of people who are considering or undergoing interferon treatment, including updated information on vial load and the optimum interferon protocol.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Hepatitis C Help Book, Revised Edition
I'm a GI Nurse. Read a lot about Hep-C over the past 25yrs. This book is a great review for both health care professionals and patients alike. Very detailed, yet clear, easy to understand, very up to date. Dr.Robert Gish is a well know Hepatologist on the west coast, probably the leading one. Has the last word for Hepatitis care in California among local physicians. Patients come from all over the world to see him in his San Francisco clinic. And,... he's a really nice guy. Thanks for a great book!

4-0 out of 5 stars A collection of important infomation, all in one book.
Very user friendly.Good information, all in one book. All you need to know in order to take good care of yourself and a live good quality life without the commercial western killer medications during a period of such a delicate disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars Preparing to use The Hepatitis C Help Book to guide me through my treatment
As someone who's had hepatitis C for 40 plus years (diagnosed about 10 years ago) and who went 35 years without health insurance, I've depended on alternative/complementary medicine a great deal.

As I prepare to begin treatment with interferon/ribavirin, I find this book invaluable for the practical information that it provides, which I'm certain will better enable me to deal with the side effects of the treatment.

The chapter and sections I find most helpful are those dealing with Western Medical Treatment options, Chinese Nutritional Therapy, Acupuncture, Qi Gong, and the section on the Integrated Treatment Program (especially the chapters dealing with digestive, fatigue, depression and pain issues, which I understand are common side effects.)

Finally, the Resource Appendix will be a great help in enabling me to find current information about helplines, networking, educational materials, chat rooms, message boards, lectures and workshops, and financial assistance; all of this will be essential to my clearing the virus and healing.

5-0 out of 5 stars great & unique resource for people w/ hepatitis C
This is a "must read" book for anyone with hepatitis C, especially those interested in complementing Western medical advice with more holistic approaches such as acupuncture and herbs. The first edition helped me when I was going through treatment for hepatitis C and this revised edition is even more helpful.I was given a very low chance of success in clearing the virus with interferon & ribavirin, but since I had cirrhosis I needed to try.I credit weekly acupuncture, herbs, meditation, and qigong/tai chi, and other suggestions in this book for my beating the odds, and getting rid of the hepatitis C virus and the cirrhosis.Well, you can read more about my story on www.hepCmeditations.org if you want. I'm really grateful to have gotten through treatment successfully.
The Hepatitis C Help Book has info you don't find anywhere else. The explanations of how Eastern medicine can help people with liver problems are illuminating.Certainly take this book to your acupuncturist, but the recommendations of foods to eat or avoid for particular symptoms is invaluable for everyone, and there are also recipes worth trying. Getting advice from both the Western and Eastern perspective made me feel like I had some choices and that I was getting the best of both worlds. And there's advice on mood, sex, fuzzy thinking, aches & pains, why stress is harmful, how meditation helps, and lots of self-help advice.Unique things and up-to-date explanations of the basics.I'm teaching a course on Hepatitis now and I refer to this book, and recommend it to people who ask my advice on dealing with hepatitis C and other liver problems.

2-0 out of 5 stars mix of approaches, but hard to see how they're integrated.
I read this book as a nurse working with hepatitis C patients, and as someone without any knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). I'm not sure who the book's ideal reader would be, but I don't think it's me or my patients. It takes the unusual approach of alternating chapters or half-chapters between Dr. Gish, a GI/hepatology physician of some renown, and Dr. Cohen, a Chinese medicine practitioner at a clinic that sees some of the same patients. The two halves have virtually nothing in common: Gish's side is more or less like other mainstream books on the subject, although not the best-written of them (that's probably Living with Hepatitis C: A Survivor's Guide), while Cohen starts every section with something along the lines of "In TCM, [whatever organ, cell, or other concept Gish just explained] has nothing to do with this disease; it's an imbalance between [nondescriptive name of some principle in TCM] and [another one of those]"... basically a lot of terms that, to anyone who hasn't studied TCM, will just sound like gibberish and not really give any basis for understanding what the doctor thinks you should do. Now I know that that's more or less how even the simplest "Western" medical teaching would sound to someone who's never heard of any of its concepts, but the fact is that just about everyone here has heard of at least the very basic ones, so it's possible to describe even something as complicated as the immune system in simple terms and, if necessary, explain how those concepts can be tested and applied. Gish sort of does that, but - at least for me, and I think for any reader without that training - Cohen doesn't. I'm left with the impression that they have two totally contradictory approaches, and it's not clear whether they really think there's a way that they can both be accurate, or whether they've just decided not to argue. In any case, I'm not sure what a patient would take away from the book itself; it seems more useful as a guide to further reading, or an incentive to ask your doctor more about everything. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Hepatitis C help book - Take at your own risk!
The book is very informative. There is plenty of information about how widespread the virus of hepatitis is, what types there are, how small it is etc. Basically, the book presents some good information about HCV, which can be useful.

Furthermore, the author discusses herbs and some foods that promote healthy liver function and healthy immune system.

Buhner claims that he contracted hepatitis c and got very sick and then he cured himself by taking some of the herbs he talks about in his book. He also provides two types of protocols that people may want to follow.
However, there's no any information about the author himself, when he contracted it, how long it took him to recover, what type of hepatitis C or any blood test results whatsoever. Personally, I find highly suspicious the fact that the author claims that was suffering from such a difficult disease, from which he recovered, but does not talk about his experience.

Also the book suggest a place where one can buy the herbs and the supplements. People are very nice at that place but they do not provide any useful information when it comes to the protocols.

I did a research online and could not find any interview with Buhner about hepatitis. I could not find any feedback by people who tried that protocol, nothing! I could not find any of Buhner's contact information either, not even an email. The only thing that I actually found were some testimonials on the website selling the herbal protocols. But after updating the site they were gone.

I, myself, have hepatitis c and tried his herbal protocol #2 for over two months and followed exactly what the book said. However, I stopped because instead of getting better it thinned and dried my skin and gave it some yellowish color, some of the supplements like N.A.C. made me extra tired and on top of that I got bigger dark circles under my eyes that don't go away even after I stopped the protocol. During that time i was feeling out of it most of the time and lost my appetite and had this feeling of fullness in my stomach and respectively lost a lot of weight. It's been a while since I stopped and overall I think that the protocol exacerbated my condition rather than helped me.

What I found the most helpful was the list of symptoms and corresponding herbs that alleviate those symptoms.

I got very ambiguous results from that protocol. Perhaps some people may get better ones.

This book does not provide any usefulfollow up option for the treatment it provides!

5-0 out of 5 stars Herbs for Hepatitis C and the Liver
This is an essential book for Hep C.I have used the herbal protocol for 8 months and brought my viral load down to 69,000 and it is still dropping. Before I read this book, I had almost convinced myself that traditional treatment was the only way, even with its horrible side effects. Now, I am so glad that I found this book, contacted Dry Creek Herb Farm (referenced in the book) and started my daily herb treatments. The only side effect of the herb is that they don't taste very good, but with the results I have had they are starting to taste pretty good. The cost is very affordable also.Thank you Stephen Harrod Buhrner and Dry Creek Herb Farm.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable knowledge for those with HCV
This book is incredible. The natural remedies and diet choices along with supplement/vitamin advice is like visiting a top notch herbologist/naturopath who specializes in Hepatitis C. I own severalbooks on the topic, but nothing compares to the wise, straighforward andwarmly written text by these folks! Do yourself a favor and start feelingbetter soon!Buy this book today!

2-0 out of 5 stars The angry tone and attitude of the book was a real turn off
First let me say right off, it is very obvious that this is a self-published book; this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but Mr. Wright forgot to have an editor review it before it went to print. The book is riddled with grammatical, spelling, and formatting errors, which tells me he considers himself 'above' double checking his work.

He sells the stuff is says is a 'cure' for HCV, but even in my newly diagnosed HCV state, and with my counter full of newly purchased herbs, I found his tirades and his 'magical' cures a bit hard to swallow. He justcomes across as a used car salesman.

That being said, he may very well be right on target with everything he claims, but the adolescent tone and the almost childishness of the writing makes it very difficult to believe. This book, while entertaining and informative, felt a lot more like a well crafted wallet probe than anything else.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good, not great info, other better resourses available
While the information in the book about herbs is useful, there are better books available that don't make claims of being able to cure HCV. The author reprinted his lab results for blood tests and used his liver enzyme levels as proof. However he did not show us his viral load and antibody test results which is what actually determines the presence of the virus. From experience I know that the herbs this author recommends do help the liver to function better as I have been able to get my enzyme levels back into the normal range with the same herbs, however I still have the HCV antibodies and a high viral load. I am not cured. I might be compelled to try the author's high-priced frozen vials of magic if I saw proof that people were clearing the virus. But none was offered. I thought the author wrote this book with a very angry tone and that the homophobia, sexism and racism was unnecessary and really turned me off.

5-0 out of 5 stars There is Hope!
The reviews by Dave (joke-scam) and Conan (don't be scammed) prompted me to add my own comments.I for one have found Lloyd Wright's information to be extremely helpful as was the man himself.

My husband was diagnosed in 1995, unfortunately his mother (a former emergency room RN) also had it and so did both of his brothers as it turned out - though the brothers were diagnosed after him. One brother completed interferon combo therapy, had supposedly cleared the virus, but died of heart problems within the year (he was only 49 - I believe this was a result of the treatment). The other brother tried interferon combo therapy, but had to discontinue it due to SEVERE side effects. There are many people who have Hep C who are not even candidates for Interferon as they have preexisting health or mental health issues (such as depression, anxiety and panic attacks) that preclude them from getting the treatment or should if the docs would read the warnings from the drug companies. From what I have seen the interferon therapy should be a LAST resort.

Speaking to the comment about the expense of the Alternative treatments, many things you can do are relatively inexpensive and can have tremendous benefits for your quality of life. Lloyd does give advice on just a basic program that is inexpensive and you do not have to buy from him.Keep in mind one thing though, as someone who had researched many alternative remedies before stumbling onto Lloyd's site, vitamins, minerals and herbs' effectiveness depends very much on how they are processed and prepared and it is very difficult to verify you have found reliable, effective products. There is a lot of crap out there.I was lucky to have a friend who is an ND who was able to steer me to quality products.Between my research and my friend I was already using most of the vitamins/herbs recommended by Lloyd, but his prices were cheaper for these quality products than I could get them elsewhere.I very much understand the concern about Lloyd's direct involvement with some of the products he sells, that can be a conflict of interest. However, I have come to understand that his involvement has been to get products to us at better prices or to make available a product that we would not otherwise be so.He understands better than most what the aches and pains are, he has learned much and has put that knowledge to use to get us products that truly help. If you continue explore alternatives, you will find this scenario is not that unusual as there are many that have taken things into their own hands and produce their own formulas because they could not find either the quality or correct formula in the current marketplace. Also regarding expense, neither writer addresses the fact that the year long interferon combo treatment costs at least $25,000.00 (no that's not a typo), so if you do not have insurance you're pretty SOL.They did not complain that interferon treatment takes a year for 1a, why is that OK? The herbs cost much less than that, even if you do use the Natcell Thymus. My husband has used the Natcell Thymus with wonderful results. He was tested just before starting it and his viral count was over 2,000,000 and at the time we discontinued it, about 4 months later, that test showed his count at 330,000.I think we could have done better, but unfortunately he'd developed some other medical problems that required our immediate attention and money so we had to stop. Also he had to start using some pain medications just before the second test so we were likely even closer than these numbers indicate (many anitbiotic, psychiatric and pain medications can lead to major increases in viral count). One last thing, Lloyd has been collecting test results from his clients (voluntary of course)to track their progress and to serve as evidence that alternatives can and do work.

Best of luck to all of you who are lost and searching.I wish you health!

5-0 out of 5 stars Triumph Over Hepatitis C : An Alternative Medicine Solution Revised Edition
A fine book about the courage and persistance of a man faced with a serious disease, which he ultimately overcomes outside of the "profits first healing and restoration of health second"American allopathic medical system.A review of the herbs and nutritional substances used by Mr. Wright is well founded in the literature (herbal & naturopathic literature) for the treatment of liver disease and the support and restoration of liver health.

The review by "Conan the Librarian" though articulate and entertaining shows that "Conan" has distinct lack of knowledge about the modalities dicussed in Mr. Wright's book.(He obviously has not reviewed the literature.) What is interesting is he tries to pass off his lack of knowledge and understanding as the litmus test of truth or accuracy of what works or doesn't work in the healing of Hepatitus C. Sorry "Conan" but your book review is worthless because it is based upon your ignorance of the facts as opposed to a thorough and deep knowledge of them. And for "me to Dave" whose review obviously indicates he has not even read the book. Spare us all the ignorant rants.

For those of you who are interested in finding effective herbal treatments for hepatitus C another good book on the subject is "Healing Hepatitis C with Modern Chinese Medicine" by Qingcai Zhang.Dr. Andrew Weil has recomended Dr. Zhang's effective herbal approach to hepatitus C quite successfully.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you, Lloyd.
I was devastated when I heard the news I had Hepatitis C.If you're reading this review, you are probably going through the same thing. It's quite a shock.

Please don't hesitate to get this book.I bought others, but this one is working. He tells you what to take and how much. He also gets into detail regarding the supplements.

Lloyd somehow maintains a sense of humor throughout which helps immensely.Under the stress of hearing you have Hepatits C,humor is welcomed and needed. What he went through will amaze you that he is alive today.I'm sure he has angels watching over him to bring this protocol to all of us in need.

Run from your MD if he wants to treat you with drugs.I've been to 2 Natreopaths, a Nutritionist, and four Gastro MD's.My advice is: buy this book and use it.It works. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful understanding
As a medical student who has scoured all of my pathology and microbiology texts for useful information regarding HBV, I was pleasantly suprised to find a book that was so informative. Mr. Green refers to himself as a patient-expert, and he does not disappoint. The information that he provides in this book is very helpful for the newly diagnosed. He explains every detail in an understandable way and provides you with tools that will help patients combat this disease.

I was suprised by what little information I could find regarding the treatment of this disease. I explored the HBV websites, pathology textbooks, and other HBV related books and was amazed by what little help they provided regarding treatment as well as self-treatment of HBV. Mr. Green provides tips on exercise, diet, and supplementation which for me was key. He also provides keys to reading your blood work, biopsies, and other labwork that you are destined to go through again and again as an HBV patient. It is a little dated in some of the drug now used in the treatment of HBV, which is expected because of the constantly changing and advancing pharm. industry.

As a future healthcare provider I will suggest this book to any HBV patient that I encounter in practice. As an HBV suffer it is a must if you plan to help your doctor by self-management of this disease. As a patient you have to do your part in the management of your disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars FINALLY, patient friendly source on HBV
Whether you are newly diagnosed or have had hepatitis B for a long time, this book is an excellent source of reference and uncommon knowledge about a virus thatis confusing to many patients as well as their doctors.More importantly, along with the easy to understand chapters on interpreting your test results and information on seeking treatment, the book is equally devoted to the everydayhurdles of coping with Hepatitis B as a chronic illness.Mr. Green gives a clear and realistic picture of what having Hepatitis B is really like and recognizes the need to be proactive as well as optimistic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Book
A very well written book by someone who really understands what is is like to have Chronic Hepatitis B.Mr. Green is EXTREMELY informative on ways to cope with the chronic hepatitis B infection. He breaks down the sections of the book by months and describes everything in simple english. He points out the important things to do during the first few months and makes you feel like you have some control over your illness. After reading this book I realized I was not alone with my symptoms. The book is very comforting and has loads of resources andinformation on the virus as well as support groups.I have learned how to interpret my own bloodwork and feelknowledgeable enough to sit down with my doctor and ACTUALLY understand everything he is saying. This is a must have book for someone with chronic Hepatitis B!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Woderful Accomplishment
A proactive patient who also happens to be a gifted writer writes a gutsy, compassionateand informative book on how to cope with the chronic hepatitis infection.Written for other patients like himself, Will Green's approach takes the diagnosis step by step and untangles the web of confusion around this virus simply and meticulously. The book is full of helpful observations and inspirational words of wisdom from patients who choose and keep their eye on survival in the face of a life-threatening but also life-affirming predicament. The clinical course of the disease, mechanism of the virus, and treatments good and bad are dissected in simple easy to understand terms. If you or a loved one has chronic Hepatitis B ,I urge you to buy this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars From someone who actually has Hep C
I strongly disagree with the poor reviews on "The Bible Cure for Hepatitis & Hepatitis C".This is not a medical encyclopedia, it is a booklet.I have Hep C, so I have read many books on the subject and listened closely to the doctors. I didn't find anything in this booklet that contradicts the information given by these sources. This booklet about this disease is written accurately and concisely. I went through the HORRIBLE treatment for Hep C and it failed. So I was left with faith and nutrition to boost my immune system and keep the Hep C from advancing. I have followed DOCTOR Colbert's plan for years, not only has the Hep C not progressed, but I am much healthier in every area. I find it hard to believe that anyone has a negative opinion of adding good nutrition, positive thinking and/or faith to the current treatment available to the unfortunate people that have their life threatened by this virus.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pathetic
I can't believe this guy is a MD. He is coasting on his popularity based on these books he writes. He can go on and on with these books that cater to people who just don't know any better.People fall for anything they read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Christian Basic Hepatitis Guide
If one is seeking a book of ethnic medicines based on ancient Biblical diet & herbs, this is not such a book.Rather, it a Basic Guide for Christians who want the essential information concisely and with Biblical based Christian prayer guidance. As a traditional Catholic, I find this booklet valuable though written apparently by a non-Catholic.Dr Colbert describes the medical treatment, advises doing nothing apart from the Physician, lists the most beneficial vegetables, nutrients, vitamins, herbs and those he thinks contraindicatory.

He indicates the medical basis for what he writes.

On contraindicated foods, I disagree strongly that Milk is one such food -- because having properties that block excess iron uptake, vital for fighting HCV -- but altogether there is a good basic guide to everything.Nor do I find dairy fats problematic; but both milk and dairy fat (high in fat soluble vitimins) tolerance are highly individualistic. If one is a dairy foods aficcionado, not counting ice cream sugar cravers, then one may have no trouble digesting them.Fighting HCV, my diet is basically Mediterranian and Dairy (posssibly from my nordic genes) -- plentiful in grains, fruits, all kinds of cheeses & whole milk, nuts, raw vegetable salads, with some meat & fish. Beinga little too "dogmatic" in the supposed foods-to-avoid results in less than 5 stars.

Interferon-Ribaviron Therapy is discussed.Recommended are herbs like Milk Thistle (Silibum marianum)and Bupleurum, vegetables like Artichokes, supplements like Thymus extract -- it is almost all here. The herbs list can be expanded to include moderate tea of Phyllanthus urinaria (whole herb available online from Tropilab, Surinam) and some of the Chinese -- which one will encounter in the literature, taking care not to take hepatic-contraindicated herbs, information today being pretty well-balanced in warning about such as might damage the liver, but care is necessary in experimenting.Until new options arrive for medical treatment (I write in latter 2006.), there is about everything here, concisely less than 100 pages, and with beautiful Christian methodology in putting it altogether in one's life to fight the battle.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous, irresponsible junk. Is Colbert even a doctor?
Colbert's "Bible Cure for _____" series has reached a new low in the current trend of irresponsible, mass-marketed, religiously-based "health" literature. Colbert's sense of ethics must be nonexistent to continue producing junk like this series, with "...Hepatitis C" being the most blatantly stupid title. The poor sap who places trust in Colbert's advice is surely doing himself a disservice, but Colbert is to blame for exploiting his medical title and current popularity to, well, kill people who don't know any better. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars great info for those living witrhhep C
I have bought every book available on Hep C and this is definitely one of the best for those who continue to live with the disease.

4-0 out of 5 stars comprehensive, well-balanced and friendly.
I used to work as a hepatitis C nurse, counseling patients and monitoring their treatment, so I looked at this book both as a resource for self-education of people living with hep C, and as a summary of the current state of medicine for nurses and allied professionals. I recommend it strongly on both counts.

The writing is clear and engaging, uses patient testimonials nicely to get across the variety of experiences, and offers several levels of detail: most sections should be easy enough for any high-school graduate, but there are more technical descriptions of research findings for readers who want to dig deeper. (Really the only problem I have with the presentation is that those levels are closely mingled throughout, so someone who just wants the big picture will have to skip sections pretty often; it might be better to move things like clinical trial data into an appendix, since the writers' paraphrases of the data are to my eye very clear and fair.) There's a good balance between discussion of antiviral treatment options and practical measures for improving health without the treatment. They're careful not to imply that we know more than we do, and this is a field with a lot of unknowns and some quickly-moving science - but I don't think the 2006 edition has anything that's out of date, except for clinical trials that were ongoing at that time, some of which have gone to the next phase or been stopped (there are several good sources online for the most recent developments, one of which is mentioned in the back of the book).

Note, this is a book about the current consensus in (for lack of a better term) Western medicine; the authors acknowledge that they don't know much about Chinese medicine or other alternatives, and neither do I. One book I've read that does explore these in some depth is The Hepatitis C Help Book, which I don't think I would recommend unless you really know your TCM terminology.

5-0 out of 5 stars Living with Hepatitus C
I like this book so much that I've bought it twice and have lent it to friends who have learned of their diagnosis with this disease.Information is power and this book gives the power to learn how to live with this disease. ... Read more

Product Description
Hepatitis C has been called "the emergent and preeminent public-health problem of the twenty-first century-surpassing HIV." It has also been dubbed "The Shadow Epidemic," because it is one of the most clandestine of viruses and infects healthy people who have no idea they are being attacked by something they can't even detect. Now, two experts on hepatitis C have teamed up to write a complete guide to orthodox and alternative treatment options. The book includes programs for self-care, nutritional and fitness plans, and a comprehensive Western and Chinese medical treatment program.

5-0 out of 5 stars Information From East & West Re: Hep C
This book is a pleasent blend of information from both methodologies. I have found it to be informative and enlightening. I recommend anyone dealing with the subject of Hep C to check it out.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Groundbreaking Treatment Program
This book has one unique advantage. It is a combination of Western and Eastern Medicine combination for the maximum benefit of the patient.Usually it is very difficult to combine these two treatments as they are different like day and night. But here we see these two go like hand in glove.Authors have thoroughly studied this subject. It is very evident from their explanation of certain conditions and its treatment. It is an absolute life saver for people diagnosed with Hepatitis C and even doctors can learn a lot about this silent killer.

I did like the authors' suggestion for caffeine-free beverages. I've been off coffee after my doctor told me it caused me acid indigestion. He recommended a coffee replacement called S o yfee made from soya beans and it taste great. I found it on the net at www.s oycoffee.com.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent coverage of an important topic
This book provides lots of practical and informative content concerning Hepatitis C. The book covers the subject from both the traditional and alternative medical points of view.

Included are discussions of treatment options, lifestyle recommendations, and a good overview of the disease.

The book is readable and well researched.

If you or someone you know has this insidious and widespread disease this book should be at the top of your list of readings.

Because Hepatitis C progresses with hardly any symptoms..it is important to take steps as soon as possible to deal with it.If you have been positively diagnosed...DO NOT WAIT.There are many things you can do from implementing simple lifestyle changes to undergoing severe chemotherapy that can influence the course of this illness. At the very least you can read this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone with hepatitis C
The Hepatitis C Help Book is a collaboration between two of the best known and most knowledgeable practitioners working in the hepatitis field today - Misha Cohen O.M.D.,LAc. and Robert Gish, MD.This is a well-rounded andcomprehensive guide that should be in the personal library of anyonedealing with hepatitis C, and can easily be used by both patients andhealth care providers.Highly Reocommended. ... After several years and many near-death incidents, he finally overcomes the drug addiction and tries to create some semblance of life out of the resulting carnage. He describes how he turned his life around to become a professional database administrator, how hemophilia contributed to his tendency toward being an adrenaline junkie, and how medical advances allowed Ripley and his wife to become parents. 5-0 out of 5 stars Two very different stories
Vaughn's life could have been scripted in the tradition of Joseph Campbell's hero monomyth. From the outset, you root for Vaughn as he overcomes bullying and his self-restriction from the activities he loved because they were too dangerous for someone with his hemophilia. Just as he has begun to find inner strength, his life is devastated by the batch or batches of bad blood containing HIV, which is still not his lowest point.

The real strength of Vaughn's writing is his ability to make you forget that he was battling the deadly viruses and deadly bleeding condition. In order to accomplish all Vaughn has accomplished HIV, Hep C and hemophilia had to be an afterthought to him... and his book reflects his thinking.Through the book you learn about the joys of off-road driving, rock climbing, mountaineering, motorcycle racing and all the other brushes with death that Vaughn warped into fantastic reasons to live (as well as database analysis). When reading you imagine yourself without fear, simply going out and doing all of the things the back of your head tells you that you cannot or should not do.Mid fantasy, imagining yourself capable of removing your fear, Vaughn writes a paragraph talking about throwing up his anti retroviral therapy multiple times a day and the fantasy comes crashing down around the reader into an unbelievable reality.

Vaughn's book builds a story of an entirely normal man with a very diverse set of interests and accomplishments, but the intermittent reminders of how tenuous his hold on life is compared to the reader's makes his story anything but ordinary.Survivor is clearly two different stories. There is one story that is of a normal life, where a teenager pushes his limits, finds his way through the women he loves and builds his career slowly and steadily through hard work. The second story is one where the fear of death and pain is completely removed from an otherwise normal, if not timid individual and what is possible if you throw caution to the wind and simply go for it.The two stories woven together create an inspiring story applicable and relevant to all of us.We all have limited time to live, and reading Survivor is an excellent reminder to get off the couch and get moving... regardless of our current struggles or lingering demons.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Man's Review of Survivor: One Man's Battle . . .
Just finished this book, and am glad I read it.In it, Vaughn Ripley opens a window into a life in which he was dealt a lousy hand and still managed to win the game.Born with hemophilia; contracted HIV and Hepatitis C from a blood transfusion as a child; Vaughn started life a few strikes behind. This book details how that adversity shaped him as he grew and made him the man he is today, successful, funny, happy, loved and with an awesome wife and two beautiful children . . .after doctors told him as a child he'd die, soon. This is trulyan inspiring story for us all - and entertaining as can be!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow great read - could not put it down
Just finished the book.Wow great read! This was also an easy read.Whether you are going through as much as Vaughn or not, it really puts things in perspective for one's own life that someone can have so many things happen to them that would keep them down, but Vaughn fights back and pursues life to its fullest. It's an adventure story of Vaughn traveling through and conquering life.I expected the adrenaline junkie and health aspects based on the descriptions I've seen and it was great that he included all the other aspects of his life.I like the format, it covered Vaughn's every emotion thinkable invoking much emotion from me.

I so very much recommend reading this book for anyone even if its just for the adventure!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Story
Survivor is the amazing story of Vaughn Ripley's life with HIV.The obstacles he's had to overcome are significant and his accomplishments are many. From the wild ride he went on after the original diagnosis to his adult life, every page brings a new adventure.

This is a MUST read! ... Read more
