5-0 out of 5 stars Note on Cancer
I respect Sify Wong but he SHOULD NOT pass rumors that he can cure cancer.Cancer is a terrible disease, the best way to deal with is to avoid it by knoeledge and prognosis, rather than contract it and then hope to cure it.These are tough diseases to begin with.I would recommend that patients seek medical attention immediately if they suspect cancer, or screen themselves every year for possible signs as well as not to deviate from doctors orders, or stop medication because someone passes rumors they can cure them.IF people would like to follow an eastern approach to healing cancer, they can do so alongside with western science and medicine.

5-0 out of 5 stars fantastic!!!!
If you want to know about chinese medicine, this is the book you need. This is not necessarily a pocket guide, but it is very comprehensive and complete. You may need to get simpler texts to break down individual topics, but this is the book you need in your library!

5-0 out of 5 stars great introduction to chinese medicine
This book is a great way to get introduced to Chinese medicine. It's able to cover a lot of ground yet not being too vague or general.Usually books like this tend to be too techincal, but I found it surprisingly accessible. Definitely a great starting place if you want to learn about chinese medicine. ... Read more

A pioneering revolutionary prescription
for the health and long life of your pets

For two decades, Dr. Martin Goldstein--America's most successful, renowned holistic veterinarian--has healed and helped his animal patients with the same natural therapies that benefit humans. The results have been so astounding that today critically sick pets are brought to him from across the country for a new chance at life and health.

In this compelling, very accessible book, Dr. Goldstein explains exactly what holistic medicine is and how it works. By treating the root of a health problem instead of its symptoms, you too can help your animal to regain and maintain its own health, as nature intended. Dr. Goldstein also shares many remarkable true stories of supposedly terminally ill animals who have recovered to full wellness. Inside you'll discover

- Why our animals get sick, even when we strive to give them the best of care
- An exhaustive A to Z guide of pet ailments--and the best course of action
- Why vaccines can do more harm than good
- The link between diet and disease--and how the right diet can not only prevent disease but reverse it
- How acupuncture, homeopathy, chiropractic, and other alternative options work--safely and painlessly--to restore true health
- Specific guidance for the use of herbs, supplements, and natural remedies
- The good news (and the bad) about cancer in animals--including extraordinary new treatments and potential cures
- Coping with the inevitable death of your pet--both physically and psychologically
And much, much more

As an accomplished doctor of veterinary medicine, MartinGoldstein is well respected for his 25 years worth of experience inthe field--experience he effectively utilizes in conjunction with hisexpertise in holistic medicine in his new book, The Nature ofAnimal Healing: The Path to Your Pet's Health, Happiness, andLongevity. Goldstein begins with a broad explanation of theorigins of diseases in pets, then moves on to taking action againstthose diseases, not only offering thorough discussions of specificailments--including cancer, allergies, and arthritis--and the holisticmedicines available to help in the healing process, but also speakingto the "dubious legacy of vaccines" as well as the questionablequality of pet food. Finally, Goldstein turns his attention to thespiritual realm, addressing both the bonds that we have with ourpets--and how those bonds aid in preventing and fighting our pets'health problems--as well as dealing with the death of a beloved pet.Goldstein's expert advice, inclusion of inspiring real-life cases, andthorough resource "compendium of holistic books, newsletters, Websites, veterinarians, and associations" make this book a valuableaddition to any pet owner's library. --Julia King ... 1-0 out of 5 stars A dissappointing book
A book written by doctor who is interested only in TV appearances and radio shows than seeing patients who need help cannot be recommended. There is not even a single chapter regarding vomiting in dogs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Believe What You Read - Save Your Pet
I had looked into this book and decided to take my pet with cancer to his practice in South Salem NY called Smith Ridge Veterinary. Seemed to be very promising, so of course you believe a doctor. Yet people can write all they want on what they did to help animals but you really don't know. I believed it all and I am sorry I didn't look into this clinic further before going. I had a pet with cancer and after looking into many options which we went through surgery, chemo, nutritionist, I saw this book and went for a consultation. Of course he doesn't take new patients so one of his associates saw us. They tell you all they can do for the pet and if one thing doesn't work, there are many options. I went with the best option not to waste time and was told it would definitely help not hurt. I was informed the Vitamin IV Therapy would boost her system, get her to eat better and help even though the doctor thought my pet looked bright-eyed and active while there. We left her for the 3 day therapy. She came out worse than going in for this and frightened from whatever occurred while in their care. My pet wouldn't even eat once she got home and had to feed her through syringe the rest of her life and watched her deteriorate. I contacted them numerous times to find out what happened to her there. I questioned why she won't eat, why she had a nail missing and while going to my regular vet for help they wondered why her veins were in such poor shape. My pet even screamed which she never did in her life just before they brought her out to be discharged. All Dr. Goldstein's associate Dr. Ruskin would say is "she ate for us here I don't know why she won't eat for you". I begged for help and asked about an appetite stimulator that my regular vet could provide if Dr. Ruskin would tell us it is okay for her to take and Smith Ridge wanted to charge me for a phone consultation to answer the question which would be over $55 on top of over $1200 we spent there. We needed to question them because our regular vet doesn't know about the holistic's and cancer med's she was on and what would interfere. They never said we should bring her in because of her condition and offered no help. She is now gone and although I know it is cancer, her last days since being there were horrible for her and us. We watched her suffer at home. We lost our little pal and her sister's are lost without her. I can only hope others think before you believe what is written. You can say anything in a book- I know first hand from experience. Everyone has an opinion but I saw for myself, not through someone. Think before you do anything! I wish I had a second chance!

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST have if you love your critters!
I am very impressed with the knowledge shared in Martin Goldsteins book.I have been educated on how to bring about my pets ultimate health and therefore incorporate this knowledge to better my own wellness.I will be passing this book on to anyone who loves their pets!

5-0 out of 5 stars MY BIBLE DR MARTIN GOLDSTEIN'S THE NATURE OF ANIMAL HEALING
I refer to this book as my BIBLE!!!I use it all the time, I refer it to friends of mine and have purchased it as a gift for numerous friends. No home should be without this book.I love the list of suppliers Dr. Goldstein provides in the back of the book, if not for his referral I don't know that McLeod the 1.5 yr old Golden Retriever I adopted would have ever survived the Lyme's Disease he had. It was so bad, he couldn't even jump.He had been on THREE ROUNDS of Antibiotics to no avail.I looked up Lyme's in Dr. Goldstein's book and purchased the remedy he suggested from the company he referred me to and I was amazed at the end results!!!I have used many of his remedies and referred my traditional vet to his suggestions.I am indebted to Dr. Goldstein for the health of my pets!

5-0 out of 5 stars Rare treatment works!
Both my 13 year old Maltypoo and 15 year old Llasa Apso have been battling Cushings Disease for more than 3 years.I've tried various homeopathic and conventional medicines with some success but the side effects have been significant, anorexia, kidney issues and muscle wasting.Trilostane has been the most effective but only for a year or so.

Reading Dr. Goldstein's suggestion for treating Cushings, I was amazed to find that phosphatidyl serine often works in dogs who do not respond well to other treatments. After beginning 50 mg. morning and night on both dogs, their cortisol levels are now in the low/normal ranges, appetites normal and activity increased.Dr. Goldstein was the only vet to offer this treatment option which I've shared both with my holisitic and conventional vets whom I hope are passing this information along to their Cushings patients.

I've found so many other treatments that simply work wonders for my "furry kids."Dr. Goldstein is truly the "Gold Standard" among veterinarians.I'm so grateful for the extra time he's given us together in good health. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't let the price fool you
I did a comparison of this to other higher priced books and honestly I don't know why this one is so cheap. From journaling, to dreams, meditation and self-imagery it has it all.I gave it to my husband for Christmas today and he's been reading it non-stop and this from a guy who thinks these things whacko!

Honestly though, here's a sample of some of the underlyig problems in these diseases:Angina, spiritually the feeling that you don't deserve to be loved.CHF broken hearted.SInusitis, that my environment is against me.Asthma, that I am scared of being free and fully alive.

Oh yes it gives diet, typical medical advice and what they could do to help get your off those expensive meds. One downside is nothing on liver disfunction, but still, how to meditate, how to journal and more.Really this is quite a chock-a-block guide.
Heavily recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
This book was very helpful. It's a great reference to have at home.It has everything from colds, flu and sinusitis to arthritis, etc.If you are looking for a specific topic to go in depth, you will need a supplemental book.I found it to be even more helpful when I read it the 2nd time around.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you buy only one book on holistic health, this is it!
In writing the web content for www.WomensMedicineBowl.com I read most of the books on the market that provide an overview of holistic medicine. Dr. Ivker covers all dimensions of healing, and he also knows the pharmaceuticals that are prescribed for various ailments and advises on their effectiveness and side-effects. For our family's health questions, this is the book I continually return to. If I had to live with only three books on healthy living, this would be one of them--and the other two are specialized areas!

5-0 out of 5 stars Every Household should have a copy
What a fantastic resource! At last, a comprehensive guide to truly holistic health. Not just dealing with the physical, but the emotional, spiritual, and environmental aspects of each health issue.Dr Anderson has spent many years of his career researching the literature to find clinically proven holistic ways of treatment; these are not just antidotal remedies as found in most other books (Docs, check out his Clinician's Guide to Holistic Medicine, from the Hazelden Chronic Illness Series, or one of his compilations of abstracts to support holistic medicine.)Dr Ivker has pulled from some of his other holistic health books to really add more to this one.(Sinus Survival, Asthma Survival, and Arthritis Survival)

Even if you were to never use the information in the main body of this book, read it for the "self interview" at the beginning to help determine how healthy you are.Do you define health to be a state of "lack of disease" or one of whole person wellness? This book will help you in your discovery of true holistic (whole person) health.

I'm a board certified physician who practices Holistic Medicine and am proud to recommend this book to my patients on a daily basis.I even recommend it on my office web-site.

No book is all-inclusive of every ailment that we'd want to research, but this is by far one of the best I've found... I refer to it regularly. ... Read more

Itbrings together in one coherent volume practical techniques inpsychological medicine-what Plato called "healing with words"-forthose wishing to work more deeply with the emotional and mentalaspects of illness. Mind Matters balances a scientific approach towards healthpsychology with humanistic conceptions of medicine as an art. Itpresents a rigorous exposition of the theory and practice of healthpsychology from the standpoint of natural medicine, one in which thecauses of illness are set in the wide-angled lens of a multicausal, biopsychosocial orientation. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Content great, shape of book not so great
Book came with musty smell and some type of "spotting" on "edges" of pages (seen when book is closed).Hoping it is not mold.Didn't see any other flaws however.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent evaluation
This book is right on! I used to be very ill and I tried all kinds of alternative type medicine - nothing helped me and in fact I became worse with each alternative treatment. My health went downhill continuously until I realised that the alternative medical treatments that I was engaging in were not of God. This book is very complete and correct about these practices coming from the wrong origins. The book that I recommend is SUPERNATURAL HEALTH by Samuel Townsend. When people are sick they engage in all kinds of medical treatments to try and fix their problem - this is when these alternative medical treatments enter people's lives - when they are most vulnerable. Read CAN YOU TRUST YOUR DOCTOR - and stay away from treatments that are NEW AGE - and read SUPERNATURAL HEALTH to find out the real reasons why people are sick and how to be healed. Then you won't have to spend your money trying to control your disease with practices from the occult and you can be healed by GOD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ankerberg and Weldon are telling the truth
In the past, I had first hand involvement in alternative medicine. Until this book was written, a good research of the subject had not been done, at least to my knowledge. When the Lord began to open my eyes to the falseness of alternative medicine and the spiritual danger that can develop from participating in these New Age practices, research material was at a minimum.I thank God that these two men wrote this book.It has helped me so much.Thank you.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a bunch of garbage!
To be honest, this book doesn't deserve even one star. What a conglomeration of unsubstantiated and ridiculous nonsense. Thisis a clear case of the blind not wishing to see. If they'd open their eyes and read the scientific literature, they'd see how absurd their statements are. Do NOT waste your money on this book and do NOT risk your health by listening to a word they say.

2-0 out of 5 stars Think for yourself!
I am a commited Christian who works with Cultists all the time, because I was one! Therefore, having been on both sides of the fence I can recognize those who spout without research and admonish without expertise. If you read this book, you'll think that the only experts related to medicine are those who toe the line of the AMA.Let's face it, there are some medical "alternatives" that can put your soul in jeopardy...the faith healers who perform psychic surgery come to mind. But saying that Chiropractic is something to beware of?That homeopathy's founder was pagan?I ask you, do you know who invented ibuprofen? Was he a Satanist?Let's not forget that allopathic, or traditional medicine's root had people ingesting mercury, called mental illness demon posession and ridiculed washing hands before tending to women in childbirth-after they had worked on corpses. It is important to remain spiritually aware, make sure that the alternatives you use are grounded in science, but don't let this book scare you into thinking that unless someone is endorsed by the AMA that they're somehow evil. ... When this much-needed collection of critical essays was first published in 1985, it provoked controversy because never before had the various branches of the holistic movement in medicine been analyzed and discussed with such care to determine if the claims made for these methods and procedures could be substantiated. Product Description
Why Alternative Medicine and Why Now? tells of how our society has progressed through a series of decisions that have resulted in the polarization of all aspects of our perception of reality. We have fragmented our lives and created this chaotic culture; which we have come to love and despise at the same time. Unless we can understand what has happened then we will not be able to find the way to correct our problems. I have tried to illustrate how this process has affected western medicine. In spite of our elaborate technology, physical illness is still rampant. In addition, we have managed to disrupt our spiritual, mental and emotional health as well. We do have diagnostic aids and therapies that seem almost miraculous, yet we do not have optimal health. Many people have material success but are not happy. Frustration, confusion and depression are prevalent. We have not only systematically fragmented our society but have also fragmented ourselves into many sub- specialties. Healing consists of identifying the pieces we have fabricated and putting ourselves and our world back together. Becoming healthy consists of becoming whole again!

If all were well with our system then there would be little interest in alternative therapies; which run the gamut of every healing practice known to mankind since things were recorded. It's as if, intuitively we know that some key fundamentals that were known in the past, are missing and have probably been discarded. If it weren't for the mixing of eastern and western cultures, we would not have been able to see our way back to a more holistic view of health. Unless we openly acknowledge our spiritual side; and insist that we take it into our daily activities, then the reality of spirit will repeatedly be denied because of our scientific process. I humbly offer this theory as a framework to help us restore the missing ingredients so that we will be able to approach the future with optimism and joy.

You might wonder why a book on holistic health would have this symbol for enduring world peace on the cover. A true and lasting peace is dependent on our seeking and attaining this personal optimal health. Without approaching health in this manner there is little chance for a lasting peace. ... Read more

Product Description
The field of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) is expected to grow tremendously in the next few years. In addition to an increase by the general population, the baby-boomer generation, many of which have utilized CAM in their younger years, is also quickly entering retirement and thus is foreseen to utilize CAM increasingly as it ages.

Although CAM research as applied to aging is just beginning and health professionals receive no special training in CAM and aging, the United States population still continues to employ it. Product Description
We propose that the major healthcrises in the United Statesare not about heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, or obesity. Instead they areabout violence, prejudice, social isolation, and runaway materialism.Unfortunately, traditional health promotion continues to "attack" our problemsby declaring war on disease, obsessing about epidemiologically based riskfactors and frightening people about what they eat, how much they weigh, andwhat they like to do or not do. These approaches rarely help and often createan atmosphere of anxiety and confusion. This book is an invitation tohealth professionals to rethink our current understanding of health, illness, and the process of healing. It covers topics that are rarely addressed inhealth promotion including the history of the human species, the ScientificRevolution, quantum physics, and the latest mind/body/spirit research. While itmay seem as if this information is only marginally related to health, webelieve it provides a critical foundation for the truly holistic approach tohealth promotion we describe in detail in this book.It is time to re-create ourprofession and set a daring new course to improve the quality of the humanexperience. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars okay, but
Jon is a good speaker and he does awaken certain areas that all pople should be aware of, but for the layman who may never get a handle on what holistic health is all about, the book is too hard to read or understand. He should take some pointers from the true "Guru" of holistic health who's books and podcasts have been educating people for years. Forget the Cures, Find the Cause is still the most readable and appropriate book for covering the true holistic approach to health.Books I and II should be the first read, and then you can add Jon's book for further reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jon Robison is the best . . .
After hearing Jon Robison speak at a conference in Hamilton, Ontario in June 2006 I just HAD to get his book.

Although it's sometimes hard reading, I'd still recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about the whole concept of mind over matter.

(If you ever get the chance to hear him speak - GO!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Gurus of holistic health
Just out, and worth the wait. The subtitle says it all:"More than broccoli, jogging, and bottled water . . . More than yoga, herbs, and meditation."The gurus of holistic health have packaged the stark truth about current health promotion thinking and approaches and practically dare health promotion professionals to conduct yet another "wellness" program with incentives after reading chapter 10, "To reward or not to reward:Questioning the use of behavior modification."Take the dare.Read this book.Your programs will be stronger for it.Review reprinted from the Health-e headlines Corporate Report (www.health-eheadlines.com). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book on a Subject that most people are CLUELESS about...
The Reissers and Weldon write on a subject that is storming the health care system; "alternative" medicine. It's all over the place, and there's plenty of people in my church who dabble in it or actually make a living as "alternative doctors" with no idea whatsoever that they're involved with something that isn't Christian in origin, and is likely at odds with a Christian worldview (depending on what they're doing).

The Reissers and Weldon work through the underlying worldview behind much of what falls outside of the "western medicine" veil and explain how little there is in common between the eastern and western worldviews from which their corresponding medical views and practices arise. They work through the main common denominators of much of the eastern worldviews (namely Hinduism, Buddhism, Tribal Shamanism and their various sub-groups) and they explain what the 'doctor' is doing (in the context of the worldview from which the practice emerges) when they wave their hands over you, put needles into you, tell you to meditate, etc. They examine things like Applied Kinesiology and Touch for Health, Qi Gong, Acupuncture, Biofeedback, Therapeutic Touch, Homeopathy, Jin Shin Do, Iridiology, Psychic Healing, Rolfing, Eastern Meditation, Kirlian Photography, Orgonomy, Palmerian Chiropractic and various forms of oriental massage (Do'in, Shiatsu, etc.).

The Reissers and Weldon comment extensively on the various systems of thought and are quite well read. They don't over simplify, but this also isn't a medical textbook. They explain things as straightforwardly as they can (though much of most eastern worldviews are dramatically foreign to any unfamiliar westerners) and give a good amount of commentary on the empirical verification for many "alternative medicine" systems and practices.Theologically, they connect worldviews with their outflows (i.e. religious systems with medical beliefs), knowing that most eastern cultures don't compartmentalize life like we do in North America. This means that they evaluate the practices on the basis of their own explanations for them, and offer suggestions to steer clear of systems that become non-systems when the religious element is removed (i.e. if you don't believe that your body is an illusion made by your mind and all disease stems from problems related to 'energy' flow in your 'illusory' body, then any form of 'correcting' that flow becomes utterly meaningless). They work through Christian implications for interacting with eastern religious practices masquerading as "medicine" and caution the believer to no dabble in the mystical and ultimately satanic.

But, the Reissers and Weldon also don't throw the entire "alternative medicine" enterprise under the bus. They recognize that there is lots of health related possibility with vegetables, fruits and various compounds that are unfamiliar to North American medicine. They recognize that western medicine has become increasingly obsessed with simply treating disease and not promoting any form of holism at all. They recognize that some of the sketchy "alternative" practices possibly work, but they also engage the subject from a biblical worldview that recognizes pragmatism doesn't rule supreme.

If there's a weakness to this book, it's two fold:

1.It's fairly short (165 pages of content, not counting end notes).

2.It's from 1988 (and a LOT has changed in "alternative medicine" since 1988).I WISH they would put out a second, updated version that was triple the length and dealt with some of the 'new comers' to "alternative medicine" (like Reiki).

Either way, if you're like me and had a friend recommend you or a loved one to a "doctor" who practiced a form of therapy you've never heard of and made conspicuous promises regarding effectiveness, you definitely need to get a copy of this. It's definitely worth the $10, and it'll connect you with other sources and authors who will help you make a biblically educated decision on pursuing whatever alternate treatment has been recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my FAVORITES!www.ItsForTheAnimals.com
Dr. Winter is a co-founder of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Assoc. (AHVMA).I really appreciated his great presentations at their Annual Conferences over the years. The one I treasure most was his guided meditation, as a Shaman leading us to that underground cave and connect with our Spirit Guides / Power Animals. Thank you, Dr. Winter!

His unique book, "The Holistic Veterinary Handbook", published in 1997 still provides otherwise unavailable information for the veterinarian and the pet owner. I found that the charts for dosages of supplements to be particularly helpful. A good reference book and it's one of my Favorites: [...].

The publisher, Galde Press states: "The veterinarian who wishes to treat companion animals ("pets") by healthy, non-invasive, holistic methods will find Dr. Winter's manual an indispensable guide. Everything's here, organized into easily accessible categories for all your veterinary needs, from cat psychology to ovarian cysts, from abscesses to fleas and worming. This is the one handy reference you can't do without. Includes client handouts.ISBN 1880090473, 8-1/2 x 11, 224 pgs.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a friend for "my best friend".
This is the first book review that I have ever written.I am drawn to do so because;"The Holistic Veterinary Handbook" by William Winter is such a gem.I am very thankful for William's hard work to compile such a great reference for a holistic approach to animal health.

William's veterinarian knowledge and schooling has been brought to a place of insight, understanding and wisdom through his gifts of writing, organization, clarity and seeing from a bigger picture a larger more "whole-listic" point of view for health.

"The Holistic Veterinary Handbook" is a quick, complete, and usable reference that resources from several modalities of treatment; diet, herbs, flower essences, vitamins, exercise, and massage just to name a few.

I also enjoyed how the book was lightly peppered with quotes of wisdom and consciousness from shamans and philosophers.

The handbook is complete with over 40 pages of handouts for clients. These handouts are time saving, well written for the layperson, and full of information that will help keep the client educated and involved with the healing and health their pets.

In short, I am very thankful for William's dedication to animal health demonstrated through the writing of this book....

5-0 out of 5 stars His Basics are Timeless
As man becomes more technologically advanced, the application of this knowledge tends to change society and its practices. In the field of communication for example, just look at the difference between the first Morse Code transmission and the Internet. But still, there is nothing like sitting down to dinner with a good friend and having a great talk. The same can be said about veterinary medicine. Although change has been huge and constantly upgrades, there are basics which will stay fundamental. Especially in the field of holistic veterinary medicine which already tends to be a throw-back to older medicinal practice, some of the basics are just common sense and timeless. Will's manual is a fine representation of these principles. It is always handy around our clinic!

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful for Pet Owners
Although Dr. Winter's manual is technically written for other holistic vets, I've gotten a lot out of it as a lay pet owner. I use it together with Anitra Frazier's New Natural Cat to try to understand what's going on with my guys when something doesn't seem quite right. It has helped me, with its clear layout of symptoms, factors and options, sort through both what and how serious a given problem might be. It also, under the "holistic challenge" heading in each section and through the numerous essays in the back, has helped me understand the difference between holistic and conventionalapproaches to health problems, which in turn has helped me be a better participant in my pet's care. The Holistic Veterinary Handbook isn't the only resource I use, but it's a valuable one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a keeper
I refer to this book often, as I have a great interest in the subject of Traditional Thai Medicine. It is well written and ultimately gives the reader a sense of the true depth of history behind the medicine that preceded Western culture in Thailand. The tradition that shaped medicine in Thailand exists today and this book opens the reader's eyes to its history, culture, and spirituality. That is what makes Thailand and its traditional medicine so unique.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
I have a bookshelf full of esoteric books on Thai healing, culture and spirituality. Most of them are written in the language of academia to such an extent as to render fascinating subject matter into brain numbing boredom.Pierce Salguero successfully manges to be an adademic without losing his passion for his subject, and without forgetting that someone might actually want to enjoy reading about it. ...
