This is a rating scale designed mainly for completion by the reception teacher in the first half-term of school entry. It provides a standardized screening procedure to identify and monitor those children at risk of having, or developing, special educational needs, as well as a `numerical' baseline which can be used for all children in evaluating their subsequent progress. I ordered this book as part of a group of books on how to get children to read and while I found some of the suggested reading familiar I had not realized that this book was written for the Christian family and makereference to such groups as Focus On the Family.The book was prettyevenhanded over all, but if enough information had been available for me tohave know the focus of the book ahead of time I would not have purchased areading guide with this orientation.
