Description:
The inherent technical, economic and environmental benefits of hydroelectric power, make it an important contributor to the future world energy mix, particularly in the developing countries. These countries, such as Turkey, have a great and ever-intensifying need for power and water supplies and they also have the greatest remaining hydro potential. From the viewpoint of energy sources such as petroleum and natural gas, Turkey is not a rich country; but it has an abundant hydropower potential to be used for generation of electricity and must increase hydropower production in the near future. This paper deals with policies to meet the increasing electricity demand for Turkey. Hydropower and especially small hydropower are emphasized as Turkey's renewable energy sources. The results of two case studies, whose results were not taken into consideration in calculating Turkey's hydro electric potential, are presented. Turkey's small hydro power potential is found to be an important energy source, especially in the Eastern Black Sea Region. The results of a study in which Turkey's long-term demand has been predicted are also presented. According to the results of this paper, Turkey's hydro electric potential can meet 33-46% of its electric energy demand in 2020 and this potential may easily and economically be developed. ... Description:
This paper deals with a global environmental analysis of the integration of renewable energy-wind energy, photovoltaic energy and hydro-power-with different desalination technologies-Multi-Stage Flash, Multi-Effect Distillation and Reverse Osmosis. This paper continues the way of a research work, whose main aim consists on performing the environmental assessment, by means of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) technique, of different desalination technologies in order to establish with a broad perspective and in a rigorous and objective way the technology provoking lower environmental load. The software SimaPro 6.0, developed by Dutch PRe Consultants, has been used as the LCA analysis tool, and three different evaluation methods-CML 2 baseline 2000, Eco-Points 97 and Eco-Indicator 99-have been applied. ... The publishers have found a unique way to make money - they take something that was produced by the government, slap a price on it and ship it out.If I had done more careful research, I would have realized that this product was available on the web at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory web site.In fact, an updated version is available for download.

The work itself provides a general overview of various technologies, along with the developments and projections as to how that technology might be deployed in the future. It may be influenced by the priorities of the administration in power - this version gives a lot of play to the "hydrogen economy" that the administration is pushing. ... Product Description
"A Blueprint for Green Energy in the Americas 2009 concludes that while enormous opportunities exist for Latin America and the Caribbean to develop its unique comparative advantages in the areas of biofuels, renewable energy and carbon finance, an alarming trend has developed suggesting that the region is falling behind much of the rest of the world in these areas that have the potential to contribute greatly to the regions growth and its recovery from the current crisis. The nearly 900 page report was prepared in consultation with over 300 experts from around the world including top government officials, scientists, technologists, business leaders and investors. The successor to Garten Rothkopfs 2007 Blueprint for Green Energy in the Americas, also prepared for the IDB, the report was commissioned to assist with planning efforts associated with the IDBs Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Initiative (SECCI), cited by bank president Luis Alberto Moreno as one of the institutions top priorities. The report includes an executive summary of findings and recommendations, a global overview of green energy trends, a series of essays on key cross-cutting themes, results of a series of high-level scenario exercises conducted in conjunction with the IDB and featuring the involvement of senior regional government officials, and in-depth region- wide assessments of progress and challenges associated with renewable power generation, biofuels and carbon finance. ...
