Product Description
When people think of Jewish cooking, "low fat" aren't usually the first words that come to mind. But now, thanks to The Low-Fat Jewish Cookbook, kosher food doesn't have to mean fattening food.Using simple combinations of accessible ingredients, renowned cookbook author Faye Levy creates delicious, healthful dishes that meet all of the guidelines for keeping kosher.

While many Jewish cooks don't keep a kosher kitchen throughout the entire year, they do want to prepare traditional Jewish dishes for the holidays.Following a comprehensive introduction outlining the rules of kashrut, the first part of the book is divided by holiday (including a section on Shabbat), beginning with a description of each special day and the foods that are associated with it. The recipes that follow include lightened-up versions of old favorites such as noodle kugel, blintzes, honey cake, challah, and even a gefilte fish that is made in the food processor, all low in fat and all true to their origins.

The second part of the book consists of fabulous low-fat everyday recipes organized into general chapters, including Appetizers and Salads, Dairy and Egg Dishes, Chicken and Turkey Dishes, Vegetables and Vegetarian Dishes, and Desserts. This book is for cooks who keep a kosher kitchen year round and any cook looking for exciting, fast (many under 30 minutes), and easy recipes with family appeal.Recipes include Broiled Eggplant Slices, Easy Chicken Breast Paella, Beef Stew with Cilantro, Garlic, and Tomatoes, Low-Fat Macaroni and Cheese, and Double Chocolate Ice Cream Cake, and each recipe is denoted as meat, dairy, or pareve for easy reference.Remember, any dish can be kosher so long as it adheres to the basic rules of kashrut, so Coq au Vin can be just as kosher as Cholent. And in recent years, as more and more cooks have been turning to kosher cuisine, there has been a proliferation of kosher products in the markets, making it easier to keep kosher and to cook "gourmet" dishes with a variety of ethnic influences.

Eight pages of full-color photographs bring a number of these dishes to life. And who better to bring kosher cooking into the nineties than Faye Levy, author of Faye Levy's International Jewish Cookbook and many other cookbooks.Faye Levy proves that a dish doesn't have to be complicated to be delicious, and it doesn't have to be high in fat to be flavorful. The Low-Fat Jewish Cookbook is a contemporary, straightforward companion that will allow kosher cooks to enjoy traditional and innovative meals without the guilt. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful recipes!!
After checking out this book at the local library, I knew I HAD to have a copy of my own.I love all of the history written before each festival and the recipes are all simple and delicious! A wonderful book to add to the collection!

1-0 out of 5 stars Dated cookbook
By today's standards, this is an unexceptional collection; there are so many better, more creative and appealing Kosher recipe collections available. The recipes are pretty standard fare, often timidly seasoned . At best, it's a guide to what kind of dishes are meat, dairy or pareve. Some nice photos. The book shows its age .

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful recipes but please read review if you KEEP KOSHER
I'm not the only reviewer who noticed that the Kosher standards (and definitions of what the K and P letters mean on packages) are not necessarily correct in this book - but it bears repeating in case someone keeps Kosher and can't use recipes which are inaccurate as to Kosher standards. If you don't keep Kosher, the definitions may not mean that much to you and you may be pleased to find plenty of low-fat recipes which have roots in Jewish cooking and meals - including many you can use for special holidays, with full menus. The recipes are indeed tasty, although there are times you can tell that the fat is missing. The "mouth appeal" isn't quite the same, as they say in the food business. Still, if you're watching your fat content and you are looking for traditional foods that are tasty, this book will do nicely. I LOVED the spicy Turkey burgers with Cumin, coriander and cilantro - I made it both with and without the Cilantro (we have a Cilantro hater in our family) and it was still quite good.

3-0 out of 5 stars This is a very good cookbook with some unfortunate errors
The recipes in this book are very good and sophisticated (particularly for a Jewish cookbook).I am already looking forward to making over half of them.

Unfortunately, Ms. Levy makes some errors in her descriptions of kosher standards. Two prominent errors include:1) Ms. Levy states that the symbol "K" on a food product indicates that it is kosher. The kosher consumer does not rely on a "K" symbol because it does not represent any particular reputable kosher certifying agency.2) Ms. Levy states that the "P" symbol on a food product indicates that the product is parve (suitable for use with milk or meat). This is incorrect. The "P" symbol next to reputable kosher certification indicates that the product is kosher for Passover (as well as year round). A food product that is certified as parve must have "parve" written out on the label. These errors are particularly unfortunate because Jewish consumers often rely on kosher cookbooks as a guide to keeping kosher.

4-0 out of 5 stars fabulous for that special occasion
This book of recipies actually combines wonderful flavors that you really connot find in other kosher cookbooks. The author, Faye Levy, has a remarkable way of creating delicious combinations that the ordinary person cannot. The Sephardic Stuffed Peppers and the Sweet Potato Pancakes are amazing. The Veal Chop Pipperade is also delicious. The book is great. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Extraordinarily helpful
This book is a tremendous resource for those who are not familiar with Kosher food preparation.I was in charge of a Seder Dinner at a Catholic Church and although I had a Jewish mentor, was so glad to also have this book, since it guided us through even the proper table settings for this beautiful meal.VERY GOOD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you ever wanted to know about the Seder!
Excerpted from The Orange County Register
April 10, 2003
by Judy Bart Kancigor, author of Cooking Jewish: 532 Great Recipes from the Rabinowitz Family

Some good things deserve repeating. Zell Schulman's exhaustive Passover
guide, "Let My People Eat," is now in paperback, renamed "Passover Seders
Made Simple" (Wiley). It contains everything you ever wanted to know
or thought to ask about the Seder, the traditional meal that commemorates the deliverance of the Jews from slavery in Egypt.

Calling herself an "ecumenical Jewess" - "I'm a Reform Jew with an
Orthodox heart and a Conservative way of life," she said - Schulman offers
lists for everything from pantry supplies to prohibited foods to Passover
substitutions. She explains the significance of ceremonial items, gives
shopping resources, and offers six Seder menus as well as additional recipes for the eight-day celebration.

Even the novice need not be intimidated under Grandma Zell's encouraging
tutelage. "Don't push the panic button," she advised.

The recipes are keepers: Passover Pizza with a zucchini crust, Shiitake
Mushroom-Bell Pepper Matzo Kugel, Roast Lamb with Garlic Rosemary Sauce,
Chocolate Mousse Tort. All are delivered in her breezy style that reveals her upbeat outlook. "Life is a gift," Schulman told me. "You open the package, and you deal with it."

This carrot salad makes a delicious starter. "It's the best appetizer that you can use for the rest of the year too," she said.

ALLEGRIA COHEN'S CHIZU SALADA (CARROT SALAD)
2 lbs. peeled baby carrots
2 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. dried red pepper flakes or ground red pepper
juice of 1 large lemon
2 TBS. olive oil
chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Place the carrots in a medium saucepan. Cover with cold water and cook over
medium heat until the tip of a knife can pierce them, about 15 minutes. Do
not overcook. Drain and let cool. In a small bowl, mix cumin, paprika, salt, red pepper flakes, lemon juice and olive oil together. Add this to the cooked carrots and gently coat them. Let cool for 20 minutes. Garnish with the parsley. These may be prepared up to 1 week before the Seder. Serve at room temperature. Makes 8 servings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
I used this book to help me set the table as well as for the recipes inside.I couldn't have had my Seder without it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of menus and ideas for Passover.
I had this book for a year or two before I really tried out the recipes one year. They are excellent!

Zell Shulman organizes her book into numerous Pesach menus, such as Ashkenazic, Sephardic, Health-Conscious, Easy to Prepare, and Ecumenical Potluck. There are grocery lists and timelines accompanying each menu and they really help to streamline the task of pulling together a Seder meal.

Even though the layout and organization was impressive, I wasn't sure I would find the recipes to be as good as promised. When I served the Sephardic menu, it was really good!Everyone devoured the food and it felt wonderful to present such a lavish meal that still allowed me to enjoy the holiday and my friends and family in a relaxed fashion.

One other plus: the author includes many additional recipes that help round out the eight day holiday. My reason for four stars:her "Easy to Prepare" seder scares me a little, although in fairness I haven't tried the recipes. ... Read more

Product Description
I grew up in The Bronx with a mother who used to make her grind her own fish to make her own gefilte fish and who made her own matzoh balls. We did not eat Chinese food, go out for Italian food and, as a matter of fact, never went out to eat. That was for other people who wasted their money and who were unwilling to keep up with tradition.

As my Mom became older, it was hard for her to keep with the traditional meals that she would make us when she was younger so slowly but surely, other food crept into our house and some of the great meals became reserved for Jewish holidays.

That’s why I decided to create this report. To me, at least, the so-called Jewish food in the supermarkets taste like garbage, not like what I grew up with.

I don’t pretend that it is an all inclusive cookbook but it has the basics. Not all are easy to prepare but keeping up with tradition is work of love and choice, not something you buy at the store like a jar of fish. ... Read more

More Than 200 Holiday Recipes from Top Chefs and Writers

At last, from the paper of culinary record, comes a treasure trove of more than 200 recipes that celebrate the delicious festivity of the Passover table. Compiled from Times articles spanning almost fifty years, The New York Times Passover Cookbook represents Jewish cuisine from all over the world.

It contains family recipes that have been passed down for generations as well as innovative kosher cuisine from such celebrated chefs as Wolfgang Puck and Alice Waters. Acclaimed Times writers Molly O'Neill, Ruth Reichl, and Mimi Sheraton have all contributed essays on the different ways that the Passover experience has enriched their lives.

Recipes from Craig Claiborne, Mimi Sheraton, Molly O'Neill, Marian Burros, and Florence Fabricant are also included, allowing the reader to see -- and taste! -- how the experts at The New York Times cook for Passover.

With dozens of fantastic main-course dishes for both meat and dairy meals, you'll have a tough time deciding between the Shad with Pineapple-Rhubarb Salsa and the Braised Moroccan-Style Lamb with Almonds, Prunes and Dried Apricots. Maybe this year your guests will savor a traditional dish like Chicken with Fresh Herbs and 40 Cloves of Garlic -- or perhaps something different, like Southwestern Blackened and Braised Brisket of Beef or Paul Prudhomme's Veal Roast with Mango Sauce. The chapter on Vegetables and Salads contains an ample selection of memorable side dishes: Carrot and Apple Tsimmes, Butternut Squash Ratatouille, the Union Square Cafis Matzoh Meal Polenta, and Beet Crisps are just a few of the flavorful recipes you'll want to enjoy all year round.Amazon.com Review
Finally, you can put aside those yellowed newspaper clippingsthis holiday! The New York Times Passover Cookbook collectsalmost 50 years' worth of delicious Seder recipes from theTimes and its contributors, from FlorenceFabricant's Classic Gefilte Fish to Barry Wine's TsimmesTerrine. With more than 200 recipes, the book travels around the worldof Jewish cuisine, from Artichokes, Sephardic Style--a spicy, fried,Egyptian dish--to Mississippi Praline Macaroons, a recipe thattraveled with its originator from Vienna, Austria, to Natchez,Mississippi. Because the book includes recipes from both Ashkenazicand Sephardic traditions, editor Linda Amster notes that theingredients in some recipes may not be acceptable to other communities(for example, the allspice in Claudia Roden's Matzoh-Meat Pieperfectly reflects its Arab-Jewish influences, but probably would beout of place on an Ashkenazic Passover menu).

Through the years atthe Times, many Passover recipes have come from accomplishedhome cooks in the New York area (such as Florence Aaron's Salmon andEgg Salad). More recently, however, the paper has given some starchefs a turn at the traditional Seder dishes, so you'll also find suchgourmet delights as Jean-GeorgesVongerichten's Beet Tartare, PaulPrudhomme's Veal Roast with Mango Sauce, CharlieTrotter's Carrot Consommé, and Maida Heatter'sChocolate Walnut Torte. In addition to the wealth of recipes, TheNew York Times Passover Cookbook features a thoughtfulintroduction on the meanings of the Passover ritual by Joan Nathan, author of the award-winning Jewish Cooking inAmerica. Threaded through the book are four essays by Timescritics and columnists Ruth Reichl, Mimi Sheraton,MollyO'Neill, and Howard G. Goldberg. Goldberg's informative piece onKosher wines may cause you to put the sweet Manischewitz aside for adryer Israeli Cabernet or a Californian Semillon. 5-0 out of 5 stars Best passover cookbook ever
The best kosher passover cookbook I've ever seen. The recipes are very good, and the variety is top notch. Truthfully I find a lot of cookbooks a little boring, but this is a Julia Child, Claudia Roden quality cookbook.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good
I really liked the book. My friends raved about the Sweet and Sour Beets recipe. My only suggestion for improvement would be to give specific instructions for the Sedar plate and suggest different menus for a Sedar.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great for foodies, not for someone who's spent hours cleaning for Pesach
I wish I had read the negative review about this cookbook and given a little more thought to the target audience of this book.I was online and bought a handful of different Passover recipe books, without agonizing too much over which one I should get.I was certainly not in the target audience.

The up-side is that it has SOOOOO many recipes and from many different (famed and trendy) contributors. If you are a foodie, are serving foodies, or really care about impressing your guests with the dinner, then this is a great resource.

But if you've just spent 2 weeks cleaning every niche and crevice of your home and kashering your kitchen and sleeping for about 3 hours a night (or maybe you're just a busy person and don't have the time), you might not want a cookbook that is filled with recipes that require about 10-20 ingredients -- especially when each ingredient may only affect the flavor subtly. Not everyone who is coming for Pesach dinner is going to have the palette to appreciate my killing myself over the meal -- especially when the invitees may very well include Uncle Max who just prefers gefilte fish out of a jar and bratty or picky kids who just want matzo ball soup and would cry if you try to do anything fancy or different to the matzo balls.

Moreover, as another reviewer wrote, the kashrus standards of the recipes are not necessarily according to Orthodox levels. There are recipes in the book for making matza yourself, which isn't really recommended, especially since the whole point of Passover is to avoid leavening and you won't necessarily do that unless you bake the matzohs fast enough. But those were the only recipes that I found had flour in it.The book is pretty good otherwise about keeping things kosher.

I happen to also love cookbooks with lots of color photos. This is not one of them. But to each his own.It does have a lovely section in the middle with a handful of photos of selected recipes.

For like-minded people, I would recommend taking a look at Susie Fishbein's Passover cookbook (although those of you who have her Kosher by Design series may find some of the recipes repetitive) and Susan Friedland's Passover Table book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hmm okay
The book is okay for a Ashknaz Pesach Seder, but for more tastey stuff, I wouldn't reccommend, but only a few receipes were used but not much! For a first time cook, it's good.

2-0 out of 5 stars Such a Disappointment - Untested Recipes!
I have tried a number of recipes in this book. In my opinion, they were so obviously untested. Results for most bread/baking recipes drastically over- or understated baking times, and dry to wet ingredient proportions were so off in some recipes they could not be completed (too dry or too soupy).

For example, the pita bread recipe on page 274 calls for 16 minutes of baking time. What I got out of the oven was not pita bread, but something that resembled a frisbe.

Being a fairly experienced cook/baker/kitchen user, I know the importance of following instructions, testing the oven temperature for accuracy, measuring properly, etc. The receipe disasters were not due to my error, but to faulty receipes themselves. ... Read more

Susan Friedland wrote The Passover Table in 1994, and it is still one of the mostoutstanding books for this holiday. Before offering recipes, Friedland presents the roots of Passover in Jewish history and in the Torah. She explains thepurpose of particular parts of the Seder, the ceremony that marks theobservance of Passover, including the famous Four Questions.

Food has a central role during the entire seven days of Passover. Recipes inThe Passover Table include dishes served by Jews with roots in northern andcentral Europe, and those whose culinary influences come originally fromMediterranean Europe (Ashkenazim), North Africa (Sephardim), or the MiddleEast. In addition to Gefilte Fish and Tzimmes (a sweet meat and vegetable stew)for Seder nights, the dishes for the rest of the week include Mina dePesha, a layered chicken pie made with matzos; airy, puffed Potato Chremsel;and Birmuelos, Sephardic doughnuts served for dessert or breakfast. 5-0 out of 5 stars Passover Cookbook
This book turned out to be better than advertised. We were more than pleased.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Passover books I have...
This is one of the best Passover books I have. The recipes are new and modern and definitely give an updated alternative to other books that are out there. You will definitely find all of your traditional recipes and many more. For example, the veal pocket with apple stuffing is so amazing that my family wants me to make this more than once a year. Also, these recipes are easy to double if necessary especially if you are serving a large crowd. I have been using this collection for years and had to order a second one when I thought I lost my first copy. Well, it's nice to know that I will have an extra one to give to someone who enjoys cooking for the holidays as much as I do.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lavish illustrations but too few recipes
Ibought this book shortly after it first came out, in hopes of improving my Passover repertoire. Passover can be a true culinary challenge for those who keep kosher. No pasta, no pizza,no sandwiches--and two major "dinner parties" (seders) to give! There's nothing like a batch of new recipes to liven up the menu.

Frankly, "The Passover Table" was a disappointment. The book only has forty-three recipes, and many of them are for old standbys like chicken soup, matzoh balls, chopped liver, roast chicken, and a very basic pot roast. For those, any Jewish cookbook will do.Friedland includes a number of interesting Sephardic recipes, but they're not enough to justify the price of the book. The illustrations are plentiful and generally very lovely, but their lavishness underlines the thinness of the content. As for the recipes themselves, I've had a 50-50 success rate for the ones I've tried, and I've had minor problems with most of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars A welcome addition to family and community cookbook collections
The Passover meal is a culinary tradition that presents something of a challenge to the health-conscious kitchen cook. That's why the "Passover Lite Kosher Cookbook" by Gail Ashkanazi-Hankin is such a welcome addition to family and community cookbook collections. Showcasing low-fat and low-cholesterol dishes suitable for the eight days of the Jewish holiday of Passover, the recipes range from Sweet Orange Matzah Brie; Cucumber Radish Salad; Smoked Whitefish Frittada; and Vegetable Pizza; to Broccoli Knishes; Candied Sweet Potato Tzimmes; Miniature Passover Bagels; and a No-Cholesterol Chocolate Chiffon Cake. While the focus is on appropriate dishes to serve as part of Passover meals, these are nutritious, delicious, and easy-to-prepare soups, salads, entrees, and desserts that would be well received at the family dining table any time of the year!

3-0 out of 5 stars Very good ideas but not enough detail.

Other recipes suffer from the same lack of instruction. All of the abovedoes not mean that the book has no value. It should be seen as a colectionof possibilities instead of actual recipes and thushas the ability toinspire the read to create something new for passover. ... Though it's the first night of Hanukkah, Rachel's family won't really be celebrating until next week. But Rachel wants to celebrate now, so she comes up with a good idea: while her parents do errands, she'll visit her neighbor, Mrs. Greenberg, and they can make latkes together. The two head into Mrs. Greenberg's shiny, tidy kitchen and begin grating the potatoes. But Rachel's gratings slide off the table and onto the floor. Before long, Rachel has dropped an egg, spilled the flour, and dribbled the oil. Mrs. Greenberg is exhausted, Rachel's mom and dad are horrified, and Rachel is afraid she's ruined a friendship by making this terrible mess. She is relieved and delighted to find that Mrs. Greenberg thinks it's a wonderful mess--her house hasn't felt so lived-in in years! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Like the Joy of Cooking for the kosher home
**Note:The review below is misplaced. It is for the non-Passover edition. However, I would recommend the Passover edition with the same gusto and rating as it is the same concept with great recipes for strictly kosher homes.**

Granted, this book is no frills. There are no pictures. Just lots and lots of recipes, categorized into:challah; dairy foods; soups; parve main dishes; meat & poultry mains; sides; cakes & pastrys; desserts & confections. It also has tons of information on kashrus and shabbat for beginners. It's like Joy of Cooking, but kosher.(Mind you, Joy of Cooking also doesn't have pictures. But it's a kitchen staple.)

I have a huge library now of kosher cookbooks and I have to say that no other book has a comprehensive collection of all the shabbat and kosher classics as Spice & Spirit.Recipes for different types of challah; cholents; noodle, potato, or broccoli kugels; blintzes; parve ice creams.

If you don't like the traditional recipes or if pictures are a must, I would point you towards Susie Fishbein and the Kosher by Design series, e.g. Kosher by Design, Kosher by Design Short on Time, and Kosher By Design Entertains. But I feel Spice & Spirit is a must have for any kosher home.Make it a gift for any new bride. It also has handy tips, like the amounts of flour necessary for doing mitzvahs like taking challah with or without the brocha.

3-0 out of 5 stars lots of passover info, but no pictures
I think this cookbook could use some pictures. There aren't even any in black and white. I was a little disappointed about that, though I was impressed with the fact that a large part of the book is devoted to laws about kosher for passover and getting rid of chametz for passover. overall, i think one should only buy this book who wants information as well as recipes and doesn't mind that there are no pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cookbook for a gluten-free diet
I need to cook for a gluten-free diet. This recipe book has LOADS of recipes which have no wheat, oats, barley or rye.Instead of "regular" flour, potato starch is used in the recipes -- perfect for a gluten-free diet.

The book also contains information about Passover and directions for preparing one's home for the holiday. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Hanukah Books
This was a very good book for anyone who wants to know the background of Hanukah.I found this to be informative for both myself and the children I taught in Sunday School.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Miracle Jar
This story takes us back to the shtetl, where family finances are difficult and tasks that children can do are as valued as gifts that cost money. The setting is the home where a young family is preparing for the holiday of Hannukah. The book takes place during winter, where logs in the fireplace and in the stove are the source of warmth as well as the center for cooking. Colorful watercolor drawings accompany the retelling of the historical Hannukkah story. The children sweep the house and polish the brass Hannukkiah as their contributions to the holiday. The mother here, however, has a problem that parallels the story of the ancient Maccabee victory. It is not possible to go to the store because of the weather, and she is running very low on oil. Her hope is that through some miracle she will have enough cooking oil to make the family its traditional holiday treats for the entire eight days. She is able to save oil left from her cooking each day in what the family labels "the miracle jar". For seven days she is able to achieve her goal, but there is no oil left for the eighth day. Through her ingenuity, she is able to delight her family and give them the eighth day treat. The family members' love for one another and the colorful illustrations are important attributes of the book. However, the eighth day miracle is underwhelming, and as a result the climax of the book is disappointing. In addition, for some reason, the editor allowed the inclusion of the following puzzling statement explaining the reason for Hanukkah gelt: "These coins are to remind us that after Maccabee became an independent state, they proudly minted their own coins instead of using those of the Syrians." 5-0 out of 5 stars faye levy's international jewish cookbook
If anyone is looking for a great recipe for potato latkes and other traditional dishes and can't find that perfect book to accomplish that end, look no further. I think that Ms. Levy has collected these recipes and tested them in her own kitchen. I have bought many other Jewish cookbooks but this is the only one that is staying in my kitchen library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sophisticated & Elegant Jewish Cooking
Faye Levy's cookbook is almost homage to the great "French Chef", Julia Child, who suggested that Levy write such a book.Faye Levy has sampled & studied worldwide Jewish cuisine, and fortunatelyfor us compiled her work into this elegant, yet easy to follow cookbookwith recipes from all parts of Europe and the Middle East. Not only did Ibecome acquainted with new recipes and cooking techniques, but learnedsomething of the Jewish tradition, as well.

Levy's culinary educationis thoroughly wide ranging, running the gamut from formal studies in France& Israel, to learning various Sephardic & Ashkenazi cookingtechniques from her friends & family in Israel & the UnitedStates.

Her simple instructions enabled me to produce a delicious andgreatly praised French/Alsace raisin matzah kugel for our Passover seder. I plan to turn to Levy's book often for future holidays celebrations.Thisis a cookbook for anyone who wants to produce Jewish cuisine at its best. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
This book was a lifesaver for me this Passover. Every year it's usually the same bland food, so hard to get creative - especially when I'm the one cooking, but not the one who's been Jewish my whole life! Keeping Kosher when you're not strict year round is challenging and frustrating, but there were so many fabulous, delicious, and flavorful recipes. And the charts and tables in the back for substitutions, measurements, and categorized alternatives for dishes was so helpful. My husband's family has many food sensitivities, and this book allowed me to make a feast that everyone could share in. I got compliments that they had never had a Passover like this before and I was never allowed to give it up as hostess. I even got a standing ovation (which was a little weird, but my husband and in-laws insisted it was well-deserved.)

I would recommend this book to any, any, anyone wanting to knock the socks off their Passover guests.

5-0 out of 5 stars Passover is like the Rest of the Year!!
This book is full of creative recipes that taste delicious. I used at least one recipe from each chapter this Passover. Especially helpful were the conversion and substitution charts in the back of the book. The Seder menus were helpful too. This book is a must if you have a lot of cooking to do for Passover.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rave reviews for my very first Passover!
Every year I spend Pesach/Passover at someone else's house. This year I made my very first Pesach/Passover. We had people coming for both Sederim and during the week as well.I was petrified. Then I bought and read this book.It was the best Pesach/Passover I have ever had and I receivedoutstanding compliments on the food. All the meals all week were from thisbook. It was clear, concise, easy and most of all reassured me that Iwasn't going to kill anyone with my cooking.Thank you, Frances Avrutick, where ever you are!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely essential for the serious Pesach cook!
This book could be subtitled "The Joy of Passover Cooking"because it does for Passover what the "Joy of Cooking" did forfood in general. An incredible variety of recipes, suitable for bothgebrochts and non-gebrochts (in 10 years I haven't yet tried them all),with conversion tables and recommendations for substitutions if you live,as I do, in a place where the choice of kosher-for-passover ingredients islimited. My family tells me that each Passover gets more scrumptious thanthe last, and my husband, who always regarded Pesach as something of atrial because of the restrictions, now eagerly anticipates the Pesach rollsand other delicacies I whip up.No Passover-observing kitchen should bewithout this book! ...
