Beyond Bake Sales All is not well with the PTA. Like the teachers' unions, the PTA hires lobbyists to promote a legislative agenda that often has little to do with student performance in the classroom. schools have ptas. However, all is not well with the PTA. At the PTA's national convention in kansas City, Missouri, literature points out, that ptos do not emphasize lobbying http://www.educationpolicy.org/files/bakesales.htm
Extractions: by Charlene K. Haar, EPI President Hardly a week goes by without another article encouraging parental involvement in education accompanied by a poll showing the benefits of having parents active in their child's education. Busy parents have long been engaged in volunteer work within classrooms, extra-curricular activities, on school playgrounds, and at home. Today, however, parents who are contributing more time and money feel like they are resources to be tapped rather than major stakeholders in the system. Parents are turning to traditional parent-teacher groups for help. The question is: What kind of help can they expect? The century old National Congress of Parents and Teachers (PTA), has been a long-time proponent of parental involvement. The PTA has local affiliates in slightly over one-fifth of the K-12 schools in the United States. In Florida, about 26 percent of the schools have PTAs. However, all is not well with the PTA. At the PTA's national convention in Kansas City, Missouri, last June, most states reported no membership increases, while many states reported membership losses. Some states, like Indiana, have seen significant dropout rates. In 1994, the Indiana PTA lost 3,384 members and at least 9,000 members quit in 1996. In my opinion, there are several reasons for this decline.
Extractions: Morning Sun Staff Writer GIRARD Crawford County residents will be able to celebrate the millennium in style, thanks to a special provision enacted by the Kansas legislature this year. The provision extends the standard period for sale of fireworks in Kansas, allowing four additional days, from Dec. 28, 1999, to Jan. 1, 2000, besides the usual Independence Day sales period. Frontenac businessman Mark Monsour approached the Crawford County Commission Tuesday for permission to set up a sales site on U.S. 69 in Frontenac for the special millennium sales period. He said the state's compliance field agent had ordered him to get local approval from both the City of Frontenac and from the county. Commissioners said they had no objections as long as Frontenac's city council approves the sales. Firework sellers must notify the Kansas Department of Revenue if they plan to use the special time period. Some groups, such as PTOs, PTAs, Girl and Boy Scout Troops, Campfire Girls and 4-H clubs may purchase and sell fireworks without filling out a Kansas Sales Tax application, but they must obtain an exemption certificate from the Kansas Department of Revenue. Extractions: Contact Information In 1997 the Blue Valley School District received 33 acres of land along the Blue River through a donation by Clay Blair. As our area of the state becomes more populated, there is less land that can truly be considered a natural wildlife area. This is unfortunate, because there are fewer places where natural plant and animal life are found, and fewer places for students and adults in our community to observe and learn about Kansas wildlife and nature. This problem is being addressed by this property which includes old and new growth forest, prairie, small wetland, wetland forest, wet meadow, multiple streams and riparian corridor. Mr. Blair specified that this land be used for environmental education purposes and for conservation of the area. The Carolyn Ball Blair Wilderness Science Center (WSC), named in memory of Mr. Blair's mother, provides an exciting opportunity for the Blue Valley School District. For the first time we have a place designated for the environmental education for our K-12 students, staff and community. This center will directly impact literally every student in the Blue Valley School District over the course of their education. In the 1999-2000 school year, the WSC's first year of operation, over 2,200 students visited and learned at the WSC.

Selling To Schools - Branding, Marketing, Communications You're Not in kansas Anymore Yes, efficiency has taken on a new feature articlesHow to Create a Killer Channel Strategy; ptos and ptas The Emerging http://www.sellingtoschools.com/advice/articles/alternativechannels2.html
Extractions: By Glen McCandless January 2003 Faced with declining tax revenues and a sputtering economy, companies selling to schools are bracing for a tough year. While the jury is out on the results of sales and marketing efforts for the current academic year, one thing is certain. Channel strategy is now the high octane fuel for corporate profits. If you aren't already convinced, just take a look at the high cost of sales for most companies that operate in the school market. Expensive single or limited scope channel models, typically direct or through VARs, predominate the school markets. Even in this new marketplace that allows anybody to find out about (and buy) virtually anything, anytime, anywhere, "tried and true" channels get the nod, even when the tried and true is becoming much too costly. Executives who fail to place a high priority on developing new channel strategies place the future of their organizations in jeopardy. Why? Because by the time you realize that channel costs are eating you alive, it can be difficult to stop the bleeding. It takes months to develop new channel strategies and even longer to implement them, especially when you begin to integrate "alternative" channels channels that are out of the ordinary for your type of product or service but offer the greatest potential for channel efficiencies.
