4-0 out of 5 stars 50 Science Activities for Your Kindergarten Classroom
This book does a wonderful job in breaking down their science experiments into seasons; Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. The first few pages of the book are dedicated to using science in your classroom, including usingjournals. Each activity is well layed out, and easy to follow. They listthe materials needed, the aim of the activity, a warm-up, the activity, things to remember, observations, books that tie into the activity, andalso some spin-off projects. This book could also be used by youngerclasses. To gain five stars, I would have liked to had more involvedprojects.I think sometimes, we under-estimate the learning capabilitiesof our kids. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Not a Bad Choice for Homeschooling
Although I had trouble finding some of the materials in my household, I had most of them because we homeschool. The book says that most of the materials can be found in a typical classroom, but they are not always commonly found at home....however most of them are not too expensive to buy, especially if you get other parents together and do it as a group.Overall though, I found this to be an excellent book for preschoolers.

3-0 out of 5 stars giant book falls short
While the book has plenty to offer, there are many activities that require "every day items in your household" that just are not found in mine. Consequently for my 3 and 5 year old this is my least favorite book.I consider it a good addition to a few others I have and it is fun to pickout things to do each season, but if you can't afford to buy severalbooks, don't make this your only pick. Please note the key words are inthe title "more than 600". With that many you are bound to findsomething for the occasion. The book is easy to read, is well organized andhas good instructions. ... Read more

Product Description

Here’s a fun way to get young minds discovering the wonders of the natural world by making predictions, testing them, and then evaluating the results—learning the scientific method. These short, bite-sized, deliciously fun activities like "Sounds of Chewing," "Clinks in the Kitchen," "Tangy Tongue," and "Shoe Show" take only 15 minutes to organize, do, and clean up. Many of the activities involve food, so children will learn and get a snack at the same time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, Hands-on-science
My 4.5yr old and almost 6yr old love this book. i love that each activity or experiment is so simply written. they don't take long. they give you the facts. the materials needed are simple and there are questions to ask your kids about the experiment. i don't have to plan much and they just have fun. We did the "Foil molding" today and my son (the almost 6yr old) kept wanting to do more! i have searched and searched and was so blessed to find this simple experiment book for when my kids want MORE science.

4-0 out of 5 stars May take more
than 15 mins. when you include the prep and having the supplies on-hand.But all in all it's a fun book with activities for children 3-6.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for homeschoolers with little ones
I took this out at the library and tried it first, then bought it here. My 5 year old and 3 year old loved these experiments. We had such fun learning with these easy projects you can do at home, with things around the house. Yes, you can do these in 15 minutes with little work and the kids really learn. I just read to my daughter twice the concepts and had her repeat them to me. I didn't know if she got it, but later she repeated it to dad. You will not waste your money here.

4-0 out of 5 stars Learning from everyday activities
The book begins with an introduction to parents, discussing not only children's natural curiosity but also reminds parents that science is based on forming a hypothesis, testing your hypothesis, and then comparing theresults with your predictions.Parents are encouraged to involve theirchildren in these steps as they do the activities presented in the book andin everyday life. The activities are divided into 5 categories (In thekitchen, High Energy, Quiet Times, Bedtime, and Bigger than a bite) andeach activity notes an appropriate age range (includes 3 and up).Inaddition, each activity has a brief discussion of what you will do then a 1- 2 (short) paragraph discussion of scientific facts related to theactivity (info for the parents).During the discussion of the activity, questions for the child are noted. These help the parent to help the childlearn from the activity. Almost all of the activities are very simple, forexample listening to yourself chew various types of food (soft/crunchy). This book does a good job of helping parents to bring science into everydayactivities.Although some of the activities are listed as age 3 on up, Ibelieve that generally children ages 4 or 5 and up would get more fromthese concepts presented. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Simple? Really?
If you are a parent, looking for science activities for your kids, this is most definitely not the book for you. If you are a homeschooler or teacher, then it might be more appropriate. Simple is not a page-long essay about how to look at a cricket with a magnifying glass. Simple is fun, easy, and exciting. Well - at least for preschoolers. So if you want a truly simple science book for your preschooler, I suggest "Science Play" by Jill Frankel Hauser. If you want to set up a detailed curriculum of activities for your kids; complete with listed objectives, where to conduct the experiments, step-by-step instructions, questions to ask, discussion points, and follow-up activities - this book might be just what you need.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
This book is simply fantastic!I'm a working mom, but I wanted to do some science activities with my three year old. After reading the reviews, I figured this book may be just the thing, and it is!It's clearly targeted for teachers (at a preschool, for example), but it works just fine for us at home. The activities are divided into (short) "units" with multiple activities associated with each unit.We can easily devote a week to a unit and spread the activities over the week.I also LOVE that each unit comes with some suggestions of books to grab from the library that can reinforce the topics. The activity descriptions are very clear, with obvious lists of supplies (and there's not much that you need to get that you won't already have), and great examples of questions and discussions to have with your child during the activity. It's great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Prek book
Me and my son are having a great time with this book in our homeschool. The lessons are geared toward a classroom setting, but easily adapted to one one one homeschooling. I am considering teach from this book at my homeschool co-op since everything is set up so easily in the book.

3-0 out of 5 stars This is for teachers, not moms
Based on the reviews I purchased this book for my 4 y.o. daughter who loves science experiments. This book is a very detailed lesson plan for teachers.Several pages are dedicated to each experiment. My problem is that when my dd wants to do experiments I need to be able to quickly see the "ingredient" list (to see if I have everything) and have a 1.2.3. of what to do to accomplish it.Because when it's over with she's going to want to do another one. While I do have some time to plan ahead I really don't need or want the info given to prepare for a classroom environment. We also received "Everything Science" for kids and that book was much more tailored to my daughters (and my) attention span.

5-0 out of 5 stars fabulous ideas for curious toddlers
My daughter was fortunate enough to take science with Miss Peggy, and gained a huge appreciation for science (and bugs!)This book picks up where science class left off, with lots of great ideas to engage little ones and inspire curiousity. We've already tried several of the projects in the book - my daughter has really enjoyed them (and I did too!) ...
