Product Description
This book considers ethical arguments about performance enhancing drugs in sport in a global context. It examines:
* The forces that are bringing about the debate of ethical issues in performance enhancing drugs in sport
* The sources of ethical debates in different continents and countries
* The variation of ethical arguments in different cultural, political, ideological and sports systems.
Whilst there has been a significant body of work that has looked at the importance of ethical issues in performance enhancing drugs in sport - there has been little, if any, consideration of the various ethical concepts in different countries and cultures involving sport. This is a major omission. This book fills the gap and provides a thorough review and analysis of the ethical literature on performance enhancing drugs in sport in the global society. It makes a major contribution to the worldwide anti-doping campaign in sport.
This volume was previously published as a special issue of the journal Sport In Global Society. ... Read more

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Box lacrosse, also known as indoor lacrosse and sometimes shortened to boxla or simply box, is an indoor version of lacrosse played mostly in North America. The game originated in Canada, where it is the most popular version of the game played, from the traditional field lacrosse game. It is played between two teams of six players each, and is traditionally played on an ice hockey rink once the ice has been removed or covered. The playing area is called a box, in contrast to the open playing field of field lacrosse. The object of the game is to use a long handled racket, known as a lacrosse stick, to catch, carry, and pass the ball in an effort to score by ultimately hurling a solid rubber lacrosse ball into an opponent's goal. At the highest level box lacrosse is represented by the Senior A divisions of the Canadian Lacrosse Association (Western Lacrosse Association of the British Columbia Lacrosse Association and Major Series Lacrosse of the Ontario Lacrosse Association), and the National Lacrosse League. ... I got into Lacrosse because my son who is 8 discoverd it a year ago and has fallen in love with the sport.I wanted him to have a book that would teach him about the origins of the game and how it became what it is today. This book is a picture story and is an interesting and easy read.It was the perfect gift.We both love it and will enjoy it for years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Lacrosse Book With Cool Pictures
The book has really cool pictures. I also like how it tells you about the history of lacrosse and other really, really cool facts.

4-0 out of 5 stars good read for overall knowledge of evolution of game
I got this book because I'm an avid lacrosse player and love learning about the roots and evolution of the game. Since I live in Texas where lacrosse isn't nearly as big here as it is in the Northeast, it was interesting to see how the game is played and the culture is so huge at the D1 level. There was too much emphasis on the men's game, however, with only one section devoted to the women's game. But the picture quality was awesome, thanks to Inside Lacrosse magazine, and the layout is also neatly done. Makes for a good coffee-table book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars All parents need to read this book! A youth's perspective
I felt compelled to write a short review about this book after discovering it on my mom's end table when home on break from college. Growing up, I enjoyed youth sports but was not particularly competitive - I did not understand the value of lessons learned on the field and how it could apply to other aspects of my life. I wish my parents had read this book earlier and internalized and conveyed some of the messages to me. I believe I would have taken more initiative in my athletics and learned more lifelong lessons.

The section of the book that especially resonated with me discussed emphasizing internal rewards while still recognizing the importance of external rewards. The language Rhoads uses in the book does an excellent job expressing the impact of both types of rewards on the development of the youth.

I have continued to play sports into my adult life and I actually play more now than when I was younger. My health has improved through this physical activity. Athletics have also helped strengthen relationships with peers as well as across all ages.

Every parent needs to read this book in order to understand how to support athleticism in their child rather than let their child succumb to the computer or TV. The impact will last a lifetime.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every parent, child, coach needs to read this!
This book highlights what every parent, child and coach should get out of a youth sports experience.Regardless of age or talent level, any youngster and parent will get a reminder of what youth sports should be all about - learning and developing personal, athletic and social skills that can be carried through an entire lifetime. And hopefully volunteer coaches can be reminded about their most important role in the process - fostering that environment and imparting their knowledge onto our childrens' generations.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read
The Joy of Youth Sports is a must read for parents of children involved in team sports and it should be mandatory reading for youth team coaches. Mr. Rhoads does a very good job illuminating the benefits of youth sports and provides a step by step guide for parents and coaches to maximize the benefits to their child. The title is most appropriate i.e The JOY of youth sports. It is not the all too common ... how can I get my kid a college scholarship.

As someone who grew up in the 1970's, I found Rhoads discussion on the change in youth sports from self-directed to organized most interesting. The modern parents infatuation with organized everything has changed the face of youth sports. The author has 25 years of experience and I found his take on the change most beneficial.

I wish this book was available when my kids commenced sports. There are things I would have done differently. As a retired Little League coach, my recommendation is to make reading this book a parental requirement before their child can participate.

Great Book. ... Read more

Product Description
Field lacrosse, sometimes called the "fastest sport on two feet," is a full contact outdoor men's sport played with ten players on each team. The sport originated among the indigenous peoples of the Americas, and the modern rules of field lacrosse were initially codified by Canadian Dr. William George Beers in 1867. Field lacrosse is one of three major versions of lacrosse played internationally. The other versions, women's lacrosse (established in the 1890s) and box lacrosse (which originated in the 1930s), are played under significantly different rules. The object of the game is to use a long handled racket, known as a lacrosse stick or crosse, to catch, carry, and pass a solid rubber ball in an effort to score by ultimately hurling the ball into an opponent's goal. The triangular head of the lacrosse stick has a loose net strung into it that allows the player to hold the lacrosse ball. In addition to the lacrosse stick, players are required to wear a certain amount of protective equipment. ... Read more
