A China resident for more than 25 years, a former China selectman and the director for Old Fort Western in Augusta for 11 years, Zimmerman says he finds himself at home with a project that incorporates historic preservation and the people of the community. Community building and historic preservation both are concepts that form the foundation of the Main Street Program, which has helped revitalize downtowns throughout the nation for decades, and which is just now finding its way into Maine. Community building is a concept that suits Zimmerman just fine.

Extractions: INDEX: Many of the United States provide some form of intermediate service centers to support educators who are working on state reform initiatives. In Illinois these are called Regional Offices of Education. In Michigan these are called Intermediate School Districts. In that case, ISDs have boundaries that overlap regular school districts and have their own taxing authority. In New York and Colorado these agencies are called BOCES which stands for Board of Cooperative Educational Services. Texas has 20 Education Service Center Regions. If you don't know how to access assistance from these agencies, click here to link to the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) which can connect you to the state board of education in your state. You should be able to find out there if such agencies are in your state. The only USA exception is Hawaii which has one school district for the entire state and so, the state provides the assistance directly.

Extractions: Greenville Gazebo June 21, 2001 Day of Dedication Ceremony for the Gazebo for all parties involved in its construction (Town of Greenville, Columbia-Doric Masonic Temple, State of Maine Community Development Block Grant Program, Moosehead Cedar Log Homes of Greenville). The Gazebo is common gathering spot for visitors to Moosehead Lake, the shore of which is only 50 feet to the left of this photo. There have been two successful summer seasons of the Gazebo Concert Series, funded by private donations, state grant funds, and the Town. The Gazebo is a good example of the type of partnered economic development the Town of Greenville practices. This statement of economic development strategy for the Town of Greenville was prepared specifically for the Gateway Communities Workshop in Warren, Vermont. Information for this strategy is derived from actual projects started and completed by the Town of Greenville 1997-2002, and current economic development plans to be implemented between 2003 and 2007. The attached appendix includes more detailed information on these initiatives referenced. John Simko, Greenville Town Manager The Town of Greenville is a gateway community to the North Maine Woods. With a year-round population of 1,623, Greenville is small as a community even for rural Piscataquis County standards. But our location at the base of Moosehead Lake and several million acres of privately-owned, publicly-accessed productive forestland allows for a tremendous seasonal camp population, as well as seasonal visitor population. Local estimates are that our seasonal populations (summer and winter) swell to roughly 6,000 and 4,000 respectfully.
