Extractions: High School Library Library and Information Services The Scarborough School Department Library and Information Services Program ensures each student has equal access to a quality Library and Information Center (LIC) in his/her building. Twenty-first Century Library and Information Centers provide the student with classic and modern literature as well as a wide range of information resources selected to support and supplement academic curricula. Information resources come in a wide variety or media including books, videos, reference resources, journals, network databases, CD ROMs and the Internet. Additionally, the Library and Information Services program connects the student to the information at "the point of learning." Utilizing current and emerging technologies, every student has a gateway to a number of LIC information and research databases with the classroom. These databases include, for example, the library catalogs, magazine indexes, full-text periodical articles, current events as well as a multitude of research and reference sites. The Library and Information Services program also offers students and staff information literacy curriculum and support programs. The programs support staff and students in learning how to access the many resources through scheduled classes, one-on-one tutoring, workshops, professional resource libraries, and reference material.
