They are: (1) The right to inspect and review the student's education records within 45 days of the day the school division receives a request for access. (2) The right to request the amendment of the student's education records that the parent or eligible student believes are inaccurate or misleading. Parents or eligible students may ask Franklin City Public Schools to amend a record that they believe is inaccurate or misleading. Gaylen Bradley, vice president for academic affairs, has been appointed acting president of UMBI by University System of Maryland Chancellor Donald Langenberg. In making the appointment, Langenberg praised Bradley's record of "commitment to UMBI an d his conscientous oversight of activities and issues in this time of transition." Bradley will serve in this capacity until an interim president comes on board; the chancellor says that he expects to name an interim president soon. A member of the UMBI staff since 1996, Bradley is former dean of the School of Basic Health Sciences and professor of pharmacology and toxicology at Virginia Commonwealth University. At Bradley's direction, Bill Cooper, assistant director, COMB, and Greg Silsbee, assistant director, CAB, will take over financial responsibilities in the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance for the immediate future. Vice Presi dent Arche McAdoo leaves UMBI July 17 to become vice president for administration and finance at Bowie State University.

Home GRANTS - TECHNOLOGY IN MARYLAND SCHOOLS GRANT Administered by the Maryland State, the Technology in Maryland Schools (TIMS) grants provide schools with funding for networking, hardware, software and staff development. Funding is divided into two categories. Network cabling and other building improvements are funded in proportion to the physical size of the school. Each particpating school, regardless of size, receives approximately $42,000 for hardware, $1,000 for software and $7,000 for staff development. Most schools apply for funding from both categories of the grant, but schools that have already been networked can apply for the hardware, software and staff development funding. To be eligible to participate, schools must submit detailed plans describing the project plan and the expected curricular outcomes to the Maryland State Department of Education.
