Welcome To Waylee Elementary School - Information Page for staff. Waylee Elementary School 8106 Waylee Street Portage, michigan 49002 (616)323 The building not only houses the regular education program for students http://www.portageps.org/Schools/Elementary/Way/info.htm
Extractions: Waylee Elementary School serves 432 students from Young Fives through fifth grade. The building not only houses the regular education program for students, but also special education programs caring for the needs of students. The educational needs of the students at Waylee Elementary are cared for by a total of 31 teaching staff, a principal, and appropriate clerical and custodial support staff. The 31 teachers actually comprise the total full time equivalency of 25.055 teachers. Waylee students are also served by a full time reading consultant, a full time media specialist, one special education teacher and a special educational aide, a part time guidance counselor, and two full time Title I aides. Our Title I program assesses the students against a model content standard in basic academic skill areas. All these services are available to students to meet their individual needs and to assure that their participation in the instructional program is maximized. We use the concept of Frontloading in kindergarten through fifth grade to give interventions that will hopefully prevent school failures. Our students Y-5's through fifth grade can take advantage of the Accelerated Reader Program. Accelerated Reader is a program designed to create a motivational environment in which students read as much as possible. When students read more, they become better readers.
