Extractions: Sports Medicine Newsletters Fall 2001 Welcome letter: Greetings! On behalf of the University of Missouri and the University of Missouri Sports Medicine Staff, I thank you for your interest. The Univeristy of Missouri undergraduate athletic training program is an internship program. Our goal is to prepare the student with the skill and knowledge needed for the entry-level athletic trainer, a goal accomplished through an exciting blend of classroom instruction, a challenging multi-level competency testing program, and a minimum of 1500 hours of clinical experience. These clinical experiences include rotations through the two coeducational athletic training rooms, coverage of twenty intercollegiate sports in the powerful Big 12 Conference, sports medicine clinic, and orthopaedic surgery observations. The University of Missouri intercollegiate athletic program is undergoing unprecedented growth and revitalization under the direction of Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Mike Alden. Our beautiful Dr. Glenn L. McElroy Sportsmedicine Center is, without question, one of the nicest facilities in the country. Included within the 9,000 square foot athletic medical facility is a Swim-Ex pool, a Biodex 2 isokinetic testing and rehabilitation system, numerous custom made treatment and taping tables, a hydrotherapy room, and a spacious state-of-the-art rehabilitation area. The facility is staffed by five full-time certified athletic trainers, four graduate assistant athletic trainers, and in excess of thirty hard-working, well-prepared student athletic trainers. Furhtermore, the Big 12 Conference Committee for the Medical Aspects of Sport voted the University of Missouri athletic medical staff as the "Staff of the Year" for the 1999-2000 school year.

Extractions: Created by the California Energy Commission, Energy Quest is a great site for kids to learn about energy, how it is produced, and why conservation is so important. Version 2.0, a large update of Energy Quest with expanded features, was put online on May 27, 2002. There are plenty of resources on the site to keep kids entertained for hours, including educational stories, science projects, games and puzzles, tips to save energy, a timeline of historical energy events, and an energy art gallery. If a student has a question that is not answered on Energy Quest, he or she can send an email to Professor Quester. In addition to the wide variety of material for children, there are resources for teachers and parents as well. [CL] This Java tutorial, created by the makers of the language, covers all the basics needed to start programming. Some of the general subjects discussed on the site include writing applets, 2D graphics, security, and custom networking. Each of the main sections has several lessons that describe specific topics. The first few are probably essential for every Java beginner, but the specialized sections can be selected based on whatever particular task is required by the user. There are many examples of code that illustrate the important points. All of the material covered in the online tutorial can also be downloaded for viewing at home.
