OII came from the vision of two classroom teachers, Ferdi Serim and Bonnie Bracey, who recognized the need for professional development activities that would help other teachers become part of the Internet community. The OII Entry Points and CyberSeminar enable participants to develop skills in computer basics, connectivity, exploration and evaluation, navigation and research, communication, and curriculum development and presentation. The classroom educators and proponents of systemic reform who created the Online Internet Institute believe that computers and other educational technologies should be used to support, not replace, the teacher. Project MOST (Missouri Supporting Teachers) Project MOSTis a consortium of statewide education leaders planning a program of education reform and technological innovation. Their integrated teacher support system and network infrastructure is designed around the needs of teachers implementing math and science curriculum through problem-based learning and computational science techniques.

An Engineering Development Officer will work with you and the MU Office of Corporate Relations to assist in identifying areas of need and interest; establishing and developing relationships between the company and University faculty, researchers, students and staff; and in building a partnership based on mutually-beneficial opportunities. Business and industry have played a significant role at MU for decades and have been not only generous philanthropic supporters, but have provided opportunities for students and faculty through post-graduate employment, internships, faculty grants and sponsored research. In return for their support, corporations gain many competitive advantages, such as: Strengthening ties with MU and the College of Engineering, interacting with students and faculty, opportunities to recruit the best and brightest engineering students, opportunities to be a part of career fairs and other involvements. Recruiting for employment or internships, supporting research projects, working with faculty on specific projects, and providing general support for the college through scholarships, professorships and endowments are just a few of the ways corporations support those at MU.

Extractions: University Extension Fellowship Report Community Development in Australia Mary Simon Leuci Contacts: Bruce McKenzie, Dale Williams, Stephen Blunden The Centre and the Department of Rural Development are engaged in teaching community development principles, processes and practices that can be applied in all aspects of rural development, including agriculture. The competency-based program is noted for its 20years of operating an experiential program, both for undergraduates and for graduate study. Most of the graduate students are working full-time in jobs and come from a broad geographic area as well as a broad spectrum of community development practice. The primary competencies focus around collaboration, learning, discourse, systems thinking, community-based processes, the learning community, and participatory action research. Students take core courses but gain much of their education from developing their own approaches and working in communities on real issues, meeting with other students in interest groups, participating in workshops, and reflecting regularly with other students and faculty about learning in progress. Students are required to negotiate a real community project and "prove," so to speak, that they have learned key concepts and skills by developing a client-based report and review document to convey competencies developed and mastered. Students are mentored by a group of faculty through their course of study; however, one faculty person serves as the primary facilitator for each student.
