LAWMo provides representation in administrative hearings, and in court, if necessary, when benefits have been denied, terminated or reduced. These cases include Medicaid, Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) (now TANF), SSI, Social Security, Aid to the Blind, and veteran's benefits. Through this work, LAWMo helps clients obtain the payments and services they are entitled to under law. For many families, these benefits mean the difference between maintaining a minimal level of food and shelter or suffering homelessness and despair. Through its family law practice, LAWMo makes it a priority to provide assistance to those trying to escape an abusive relationship. Typically, these are cases with a long history of physical and/or sexual abuse and involving difficult issues of child custody and visitation. Dave Bryan, public information coordinator for the Neosho Housing Authority, said it will receive a federal loan of $1.34 million to develop a 64-unit apartment complex called The Hamptons of Neosho. The loan has an interest rate of 1 percent for 30 years. The Neosho Housing Authority also received $427,335 in federal and state tax credits for the apartment project. The apartments will be built across from the dorms at Crowder College. Economic Security Corp. of the Southwest Area also received a $196,000 grant to build two single-family rental houses in Neosho. Residents must meet income and other guidelines to be eligible to rent the apartments or the houses. Bryan said the income guideline for a family of four in Neosho is $22,620. Rental rates have not been determined.
