Following the U.S. Geological Survey, the geographic center of an area is defined here as the center of gravity of the surface, or that point on which the surface would balance if it were a plane of uniform thickness. All localities in the following list, therefore, are approximate. No marked or monumented point has been established by any government agency as the geographic center of either the 50 states, the conterminous U.S., or the North American continent. A monument was erected in Lebanon, KS, the conterminous U.S. center, by a group of citizens. A cairn in Rugby, ND, marks the center of the North American continent. Although catchy ads show people linked from remote cabins, the need for reliable connections is clustering the Internet in core cities while rural locations lag further behind, said Sean Gorman, a UF graduate student in geography who did the research for his dissertation. "There is this notion with the Internet that you can locate anywhere and still be connected," Gorman said. "Although everyone can get connected, not everyone is connected equally."

Summer Internet Rate Special! no notices were found no events were found Yellowstone Park Geography Geography Most areas of the United States are defined by the towns and cities that occupy the spaces on the map. Yellowstone National Park is distinct for absence of towns, cities, and those other landmarks of our increasingly urban world. Yellowstone, instead, is an empty space on the map surrounded by a small number of Gateway Communities like Dubois, Cody, and Jackson, Wyoming; Red Lodge, Livingston, Bozeman, Ennis, and West Yellowstone, Wyoming; and Island Park, Idaho. Inside this area is the core of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, an area including two national parks, parts of three states, and a host of different national forests, state parks, and national wildlife refuges. This system overlays parts of Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. At the center lies Yellowstone National Park, defined, in large part, by the barriers that separate it from the rest of the world. All the states are highly reliant on public lands for their economies, whether for tourism and recreation, ranching, mining, forestry, or a combination of them all.
