2001 CLB Survey - Summary, Pertinent Literature MI); Gary Adams, Craig Thomson and staff (USDAAPHIS, montana), and Terry ext.), DaveBragg (WSU-coop. ext.), and members of the CLB working group for ongoing http://whatcom.wsu.edu/pestsurvey/CLB2001/summary.htm
Extractions: After three years of survey, CLB has been detected in a total of nine Washington counties. Cereal leaf beetle will most likely continue to expand its range in Washington State. This spread will probably be facilitated both by natural and human-aided movement. The state-wide detection survey will continue in 2002 targeting those counties not yet surveyed. Repeat surveys of previous detection sites will attempt to monitor known CLB populations and to identify new colonies that may have established. Supplemental releases of the biological control agent Tetrastichus julis are planned for the Nine Mile falls field insectary. The WSDA intends to set up additional field insectaries for the propagation of this and other species of biocontrol agents. The WSDA will continue cooperative work with growers, the USDA, WSU, and other western cooperators to study the distribution, biology, and natural enemies of the pest. Extractions: Our inquiries identified7 volunteer water quality monitoring programs that are sponsored or co-sponsored by Cooperative Extension in the United States and its territories. We have since updated the list to include a total of 31 programs. These programs began as early as 1978 and up to the year 2002. They have volunteers monitoring a variety of aquatic habitats including rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, well, wetlands, and estuaries. The image above and to the right represents how Cooperative Extension is involved in volunteer water quality monitoring programs across the nation. The map fails to show the Extension co-sponsored program that exists in the American Samoa. We have listed the programs that are sponsored or co-sponsored by Cooperative Extension by state in the list below. In parentheses next to each coordinator's name is the year that the program began. Many programs have websites available, and we have created links to these sites for your convenience. Alabama American Samoa Bill Deutsch (1992)
