Blast from the past
I normally do not write reviews but this book was so far from what I expected I had to warn people away! First off, unless you just woke up from a 30 year coma this book will be THREE DECADES OUT OF DATE! Seriously, the most recent article is like 1981 with the majority from the 60's and 70's. The book talks about how you can only get MDF from specialty stores and only if you place large orders - HA! The info on marquetry is just poor and covers only one method. The Veneer section does not even mention vacuum press. If you want to learn how your grandfather did it this is the book for you. I think Fine Woodworking just put together some articles to be able to make some cash (which is sad since the mag is great and I know they have much better info available). The only reason I gave this two stars was because if you know zero about veneer and marquetry you may pick up a bit. Save yourself ten bucks and get a good book like The Art of Marquetry by Craig Vandall Stevens and Joy Shih Ng or if you're really into marquetry splurge and get Marquetry by Pierre Ramond, Jacqueline Derenne, Claire Emili, and Brian Considine (its listed $75 but well worth the price, I bought a copy for under $60). ... Ótimo, mas é necessario possuir uma pequena oficina, com o mínimo como serra circular, serra tico tico, etc.Muitos modelos, é bem detalhado. Monte sua oficina primeiro, depois compre ele e faça caixinhas belíssimas e bem acabadas (nada daquelas porcarias que vemos por aí).

From the mind of an artistic craftsman/teacher....
The title of this book says it all. It does cover Veneering, Marquetry and Inlay. The book is a collection of articles from Fine Woodworking. Therefore, if you have alot of fine woodworking magazines than several parts will look familiar. You will learn a fair amount about veenering from reading this book, most likely more than other veneering books. However, the Marquetry and Inlay sections are lacking. Most of the inlay was about "Inlayed Banding" which can add a nice touch to projects. This book also touches on some concepts I know would be difficult to find in any other book. For example, how to inlay silver and turquoise. Overall,this book will prove valuable to me as a reference for teaching. :) ... Read more

computer locks up using CD
I've always thought Paned Expressions' patterns were quite beautiful, although many appeared to require a large number of pieces & I was concerned too many would require a glass saw to cut.Unfortunately, I never got the chance to find out.I use both Rapid Resizer & Glass Eye 2000, but every time I try to open one of the patterns into any program, my computer locks up searching the CD.I can't even unlock it using ctrl+alt+del.I have to physically shut the computer off & reboot.I have attempted this on multiple occassions.My computer is only five years old & I've never had any problems with any other programs, software, or patterns.Consequently, I cannot recommend this product. ...
