Extractions: Teacher Preparation Program The Discipline Preparing educators is one of the prime missions of Nevada State College. Great care has been taken to construct an education program that meets the needs of our state and responds to national concerns about the quality of teacher preparation programs. Our program is standards based, meaning that there are clear and explicit guidelines for student performance. Our standards are based upon those developed by the National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC) and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). Students completing degrees in the education programs will have an especially strong background in content areas with opportunities in every education course to apply what they have learned through field-based experiences. Students will apply their learning experiences to a standards-based framework, thereby providing a guide that allows them to continuously reflect and then internalize the content and pedagogy necessary to become an effective teacher. NSC education students will have technology integrated throughout their courses and will have issues of diversity and differences in learning styles addressed in a variety of courses. There is an old adage among educators that we teach the way we were taught.
