Issue Brief: School-to-Work: The Right Model To Use reform plan, and places more emphasis on vocational training in schools than currently 191,called the Schoolto-Careers bill, is nevadas attempt http://www.npri.org/issues/issues97/school_to_work.htm
Extractions: The Right Model to Use By Erica Olsen* I The idea of graduating students with "real-world" knowledge is taken from the German education system world-renowned for its excellence. But some key differences exist between the German Model and School-to-Careers differences that might destroy a potentially successful program. Here with a look at how the German education system is structured. Germanys "Dual System" Full-time compulsory education in Germany begins at age six and lasts through ninth or tenth grade; students must continue in school at least part-time until they are 18. Through fourth grade, all students attend common primary schools. There they are taught according to a detailed curriculum promulgated by the Ministry of Education, an agency akin to the State Department of Education. After fourth grade students stream into three different lower secondary-school tracks. At the end of each track, successful students earn a certificate that entitles them, depending on the track and on their academic performance, to a university education, further vocational training or apprenticeships. The Hauptschule , the least demanding track, is attended by students headed for lower-skilled jobs and vocational training immediately after secondary school; a
Issue Brief: Is Nevada Serious About Charter Schools? nevadas law has made it extremely difficult for a charter that can convert to charterstatus are public vocational and technical schools, which are also http://www.npri.org/issues/issues00/i_b090100.htm
Extractions: About Charter Schools? By Karla Phillips Getting Started th Barriers to Entry Setting Goals The purpose of Arizona charter schools is clearly articulated in statute and is simply to improve pupil achievement and provide additional academic choices for families. While Nevada charter schools are supposed to do the very same things, they are also supposed to create new professional opportunities for teachers and other educational personnel, provide a new system of accountability and encourage the use of different and innovative teaching methods. Conclusion In Nevada, there are only five charter schools. But there are 360 currently operating in Arizona, which translates into one out of every five public schools being a charter school. These numbers are revealing because school choice is only meaningful if a significant amount of parents are given the opportunity to choose. Karla Phillips is a research associate with the Goldwater Institute and an adjunct policy analyst with the Nevada Policy Research Institute.
Education The Community College of Southern nevada (CCSN) is also expanding, and there areseveral acclaimed junior colleges and vocational schools located throughout http://www.lvchamber.com/relocation/education.htm
Extractions: Education Thousands of new residents, hundreds of new homes, and dozens of new communities all add up to one thing: an ongoing need for schools and teachers. Today, the Clark County School District ranks as the sixth-largest school district in the United States. To keep pace, the district's building program provides approximately $3.5 billion to construct 88 new schools through 2008, while improving every area school already in existence. These number are indicative of the commitment make to education by southern Nevada politicians, voters, educators and the private sector. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), a premier urban university with more than 40 years of community service, is in the midst of a 10-year, campus-wide planning effort. New university buildings include a five-story, $55 million library. In 1998, UNLV joined the ranks of only 165 universities in America offering a law school, and a new school of dentistry is now under construction. The Community College of Southern Nevada (CCSN) is also expanding, and there are several acclaimed junior colleges and vocational schools located throughout the Las Vegas Valley.
