In 200102, 87.9 percent of the system's graduates planned to continue their education beyond high school. More than $8 million in scholarships and financial aid was awarded to 2002 graduates. The system produced one National Morehead Scholar and one National Merit Finalist in 2002. Sixteen students were selected for enrollment in the North Carolina Governor's School, and two were selected to attend the North Carolina School of Science and Math. North Carolinas Scholars recipients, students recognized by the state for superior academic achievement, numbered 578.
