Extractions: The theme of this issue of CC-VI FORUM is parental involvement in education. There are many perspectives from which to view parental involvementas a parent, teacher, school, educator, researcher, practitioner, etc. We have tried to include those web sites which are well organized, resourceful and together offer a variety of these different perspectives. In some instances, links to specific articles on parental involvement are highlighted rather than the web site itself. For a more comprehensive listing of some of the numerous resources available on this topic, we urge you to visit our online resource library available on our web site at http://www.wcer.wisc.edu/ccvi/links/subject_areas.asp. "The ABC's of Parent Involvement in Education: Preparing Your Child for a Lifetime of Success" http://www.ed.gov/G2K/community/98-05.html This article compiles practical information on parental involvement in education from the National Parents' Day Coalition and affiliates. Extractions: Year End Report We are excited about the progress and accomplishments of the FosterParentNet project. Watching the project evolve from a plan in a grant proposal to a viable and relevant resource to foster parents nationally is attributed to the team work and commitment of PATH, NFPA, collaborating agencies, foster parents, and the community at large. This report is a summary of our accomplishments, activities, and findings to date. Major Accomplishments and Activities to Date Distance Education and Facilitated Chat Sessions Launched The FosterParentNet web site is currently being accessed by users on a national and international scale. This is evident in the number of hits received on the www.fosterparentnet.org web site and the diverse locations of web master inquiries. There have been over 84,363 visits to the site since the debut in December 2000. The interest and growing popularity of the site is definitely in line with the goal to strengthen the accessibility and capacity of supports and resources for foster parents. Current options are offered online: Over 50 individuals have participated in our Distance Education Courses from May to November. In addition to the FosterParentNet Support Group curriculum there is also a Substance Abuse curriculum on line. Due to technology challenges we have just recently identified a means to track technical assistance offered to foster parent via the web site. Total identified September thru November is 45. Foster and adoptive parents who need information and resources connect with us thru the FosterParentNet web site contact link. They are linked to appropriate resource within PATH and the National Foster Parent Association. Foster parents interested in learning more about support groups also receive information thru the NFPA technical assistance line.
