Extractions: Program Description The goal of the North Central Sustainable Agriculture Training Program is to develop and implement a comprehensive education program for use throughout the region. The project focuses on training Cooperative Extension field staff, campus-based specialists, employees of the Natural Resource Conservation Service and other members of the agricultural community in the concepts and practices of sustainable agriculture. The program facilitates development and implementation of a three-tiered approach: regional workshops to train trainers to assemble educational materials, review and demonstrate practical adult education methodologies, and commission development of materials not yet available. A regional planning-evaluation workshop is held annually to review experiences and impacts of the project and plan for the next year. The Administrative Council has approved three years of funding for the program. A planning workshop (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and two regional professional development workshops were held in 1995 (Nebraska City, Nebraska and Turkey Run State Park, Indiana). The theme for the first year was "Everyone A Teacher, Everyone A Learner". The theme for the second year will be "Shared Leadership - Shared Responsibility". The third year of the professional development project will focus on an "Ecosystem Approach and Economics of Alternative Farming Systems".

Extractions: The objective of this project is to develop data standards for information that is shared among criminal justice agencies. Data definitions will be developed outlining the meaning and specific characteristics, like format and length, of commonly used fields. North Dakota has found that sharing information can be difficult, if not impossible, if key fields cannot be used to match records across systems. Arrests cannot be easily matched to dispositions because the arresting agency uses a different number than the courts to track the charge. Sentencing information originating with the state's attorneys and the courts is used by corrections agencies and BCI. By identifying data standards, systems can be built or purchased that conform to the standards, facilitating the sharing on information. As long as systems meet the standards, agencies can pursue development and implementation efforts knowing that their system will be compatible with others.

Performance based assessment is found throughout the program and integrated into the development of students. The program is based upon student demonstration of competency through a culminating portfolio. Selected performance based assessments accompany each class. In addition to the course requirements for performance based assessments, all students are required to complete a portfolio using exhibits from their courses, their practica, and fieldwork to insure all competencies are demonstrated.
