These investigations involve the biochemical characterization of the components of the ECM, analysis of specific receptors for these components, and molecular expression at critical times in heart development or in disease models. A variety of experimental approaches is used in this research, including whole embryo culture, isolated cell culture, exercise physiology, morphological analyses by light and electron microscopy, and molecular biology.
