Editorial Review Product Description Hybrid Methods of Molecular Modeling is a self-contained advanced review offering step by step derivation of the consistent theoretical picture of hybrid modeling methods and the thorough analysis of the concepts and current practical methods of hybrid modeling based on this theory. Hybrid Methods of Molecular Modeling presents its material in a sequential way paying attention both to the physical soundness of the approximations used and to the mathematical rigor necessary for practical developing of the robust modeling code. Historical remarks are given when it is necessary to put the current presentation in a more general context and to establish relation with other areas of computational chemistry. The reader should have experience with basic concepts of computational chemistry and/or molecular modeling. Basic knowledge of operators, wave functions, electron densities is necessary. |

Nanotech is Here and Advancing, this Book spells it out!
Very Good Introduction to Nanotechnology
A credible and insightful work First, nanotechnology is an emerging field. There are many more companies claiming to be in the nanotechnology space than are really present. The periodical Forbes/Wolf nanotech report consistently reminds investors to check companies to see how much of their nanotechnology is real, vs. how much is in the name/hyperbole surrounding a company. Second, most of the nanotechnology emerging today, from an investor's point of view comes from government sources, which need to be nurtured into the commercial/investment market place. The In Realsis study confirms the author's approach to developing investment strategies based on the realities of current investment. It's not as simple as picking stocks. It requires good knowledge of the technology and quality due diligence to make an investment. Finally, I think the recent review from the August 2002 issue of Physics World summarizes best, this author's work..."the author has done a good and entertaining job of breaking down, ordering and assessing a fair chunk of the technologies currently being developed, and providing a valuable insight into their commercial potential. If anything, this is the main strength of the book as it provides potential investors with a starting point for understanding and locating opportunities." All in all, bravo on producing the finest guide to nanotechnology investment that one can buy for [this money].

Editorial Review Product Description Quantum Error Correction and Fault Tolerant Quantum Computing offers the first full-length exposition on the realization of a theory once thought impossible. It provides in-depth coverage on the most important class of codes discovered to date—quantum stabilizer codes. It brings together the central themes of quantum error correction and fault-tolerant procedures to prove the accuracy threshold theorem for a particular noise error model. The author also includes a derivation of well-known bounds on the parameters of quantum error correcting code. Packed with over 40 real-world problems, 35 field exercises, and 17 worked-out examples, this book is the essential resource for any researcher interested in entering the quantum field as well as for those who want to understand how the unexpected realization of quantum computing is possible. |

Editorial Review Product Description Ambient intelligence is the vision of a technology that will become invisibly embedded in our natural surroundings, present whenever we need it, enabled by simple and effortless interactions, attuned to all our senses, adaptive to users and context-sensitive, and autonomous. High-quality information access and personalized content must be available to everybody, anywhere, and at any time. This book addresses ambient intelligence used to support human contacts and accompany an individual's path through the complicated modern world. From the technical standpoint, distributed electronic intelligence is addressed as hardware vanishing into the background. Devices used for ambient intelligence are small, low-power, low weight and (very importantly) low-cost; they collaborate or interact with each other; and they are redundant and error-tolerant. This means that the failure of one device will not cause failure of the whole system. Since wired connections often do not exist, radio methods will play an important role for data transfer. This book addresses various aspects of ambient intelligence, from applications that wait around the corner using essentially existing technologies to ambitious ideas whose realization is still far away due to major unsolved technical challenges. |

Editorial Review Product Description These tiny structures could offer architectural designs for the cities of the future. The authors explore the foam-like carbon structures, which relate to ‘schwarzites’ and which are infinite periodic minimal surfaces of negative curvature. They show that the periodicity of close repeat units of such structures is evident not only in these formations but also in all of the carbon allotropes. The text provides literature and data on the field of nanostructure periodicity and the authors’ own results on nanostructure building and energy calculations. |
