Extractions: About the West Salem Branch Library The West Salem Library is a branch of the Salem Public Library System. Services are provided to children, young adults, and adults through a broad and varied collection of books, newspapers, magazines, and audio-visual materials. Public access computer terminals provide an online link to the holdings of the Central Library and the entire Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Service. You can search the catalog from here if you wish. Type ccrls at the login prompt. Assistance is available from the Central Library's circulation page The branch was established on October 17, 1957 through a joint effort of the City, the Salem Jaycees, the West Salem PTA and the West Salem Lions Club. Located in the old West Salem City Hall at 1320 Edgewater Street, it served until 1987. On February 10 of that year, the branch moved to leased space in Oak Hills Shopping Center at 1515 Edgewater. It thrived at that location until budget reductions threatened elimination of library service in West Salem. Thanks to Salem-Keizer Schools, the library was able to share space with Walker School Library from July 1991until May 1995. On September 24, 1995 the present facility was dedicated through the generosity of many library supporters. Those benefactors are honored on the carved glass window in the lobby and the donors ledger located in the library.
