Extractions: Introduction by the Director The University of Glasgow has operated a field station on Loch Lomond since 1946. Originally on the west shore of the loch, the field station moved to its current, purpose built, premises on the east shore in 1966 and expanded in 1977. Initially operated by the Zoology Department of the University of Glasgow, the University Field Station is now a part of the Division of Environmental and Evolutionary Biology (DEEB) within the Institute of Biomedical and Life Sciences (IBLS). The driving force for a field station on Loch Lomond and its first director, Dr Harry Slack, saw the field station as fulfilling two aims: To provide opportunities for field teaching and experience for students of biological and environmental sciences in natural habitats. To conduct high quality fundamental and applied research in the ecological and environmental sciences.

Altogether, six lives were taken and one person is still missing and suspected to be killed by the same Tiger. Team of ten wildlife experts and technicians from KMTNC/ BCC and RCNP immediately moved to bring tiger under control. The team was latter joined by the police force. Due to difficult location and situation the tiger could not be captured but had to be shot dead on the 10th of November at nearby Mulpani Forest (Andhi Khola) of Maakar VDC to prevent further loss of human lives. The 2.7 m long man-eater weighed 145 kg and stood 1.2 m at its shoulder. Tiger in Rampur College A Tigress from RCNP entered Rampur College premises on 21st November 2001. The Tigress injured one person when he curiously tried to get close to the animal. Wildlife experts and technicians from KMTNC/ BCC and RCNP were immediately mobilized to the area to prevent any accident. The team successfully captured the Tigress on the same day and latter released to RCNP.

Tim Donahue, GREEN Description: The Testbed project is funded by NSF to support Network Science projects, providing technology, research, and cross-project perspectives. This conference reflects our goal of learning about Network Science by looking across the experiences of multiple projects. Among the projects we've worked closely with over the past three years are Global Lab, EnergyNet, Classroom FeederWatch, EstuaryNet, the Maine SSI, and CyberMarch. In the coming months we are: delivering technology to Global Lab and EnergyNet for their on-going use; finishing our development of CLEO , a networking tool for publishing classroom initiated, data-centered inquiry projects; continuing our classroom-based research; writing a monograph on Network Science. The monograph, which will be completed by spring '98, will focus on a) the history and evolution of Network Science, b) conceptualizing Network Science in terms of constructivist and socio-cultural theories of learning, c) qualities of technology (strengths and limitations) in fostering inquiry learning, and d) implications for future directions.

Extractions: Occidental College has been and continues to be a highly selective national liberal arts college. It was founded by a determined group of Presbyterian leaders in Los Angeles in 1887, and has evolved into an institution that is considered to be among the leading liberal arts colleges in America. Although it has been non-sectarian for more than 85 years, the basic ethical and moral views of the founding fathers remain important in the everyday life of the College. As we seek to thrive in the future, we must successfully deal with the following challenges: This strategic plan is designed to serve as a blueprint for maintaining our enduring beliefs and strengths while instituting the many changes that will be required for success in higher education in the 21st century. The result of immersion in such a learning community is that Occidental students become aware of the world they inhabit, its history and cultures, and of their own unique capabilities in relation to that world. They also develop an understanding of this current period of time in relationship to that history and acquire skills appropriate to themselves for dealing with, and affecting, that world. Their attitudes are shaped by both their curricular and co-curricular lives such that they become sophisticated, adaptable individuals with commitments which are consistent with their own capabilities and aspirations.

Extractions: Washington, D.C. 20503 RE: Proposed revision to OMB Circular A-110 Dear Mr. Charney, We recognize that there are some circumstances under which data release would be appropriate. Where federal agencies make decisions based on those data, data release is needed to assure that the decision-making process is transparent to the public and to the regulated community. However, in order to safeguard both the researchers' proprietary interest in the data and certain data of a sensitive nature, data release should be required only under narrowly-defined conditions. The proposed revision is too vague to accomplish these goals. Threshold determination: when must data be provided? The proposed amendment does not define how it is to be determined that the government has relied on a federally-funded study to make a policy decision. As the Federal Register notice states, the intent of Senator Shelby was to create, "a first step in insuring that the public has access to all studies used by the Federal Government to develop Federal policy." Senator Lott's statement was to a similar effect. Definition of the word "data" A related issue arises from the Mountain Plover example. How long are researchers and institutions required to retain their data? Are researchers required to supply copies of data to the institutions, so the data will be available even after the researcher leaves that institution? While the proposed revision makes some provision for the cost of obtaining the data, it does not seem to cover archival costs. Storage of biological samples can be very expensive. Section (4)(A)(III)(iv) says that fees shall provide for the recovery of only the direct costs of search, duplication, or review. This would appear to bar the recovery of archival costs.
