Extractions: Higher education has been subjected to tremendous change-particularly in the field of technology. The intensity of this new wave of technology, combined with the growing need felt by many people to increase their learning to survive economically, affects higher education institutions as well as other organizations. Concepts of lifelong learning, individualized or personalized teaming, and time-free, space-free "just-in-time" learning arrangements are emerging, all of which allow learning away from the traditional campus or work-site classroom. In this changing environment, particularly with the advent of learning at a distance, it is both difficult and exciting for students and institutions. To help meet this challenge, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences has created a broadly representative committee on distance learning. The committee is charged with formulating a strategic direction for the college to follow in distance learning. The objective of this document is to formulate principles that could guide learners, educators, trainers, technologists, and accreditors/state regulators in the development, delivery, and assessment of formal learning opportunities. Illinois Researcher Information Service Funding Opportunities Database Available to the Cornell research community, the Illinois Researcher Information Service (IRIS) is a comprehensive database of over 7,000 funding opportunities in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities. IRIS contains sponsor information for support in many areas, including: individual or advanced study and training; provision of training programs; teaching or curriculum/program development; seminars or conferences; travel; editing, publishing, or translating; equipment or materials acquisition; exhibits, productions, or performances; prizes and awards; collaborative activities; and postdoctoral opportunities. IRIS is geographically broad. It includes national competitions as well as major regional awards, opportunities for foreign scholars to do research in the U.S., and opportunities for U.S. citizens to study or do research in other countries. IRIS also has a list of research resources in other countries. A search can contain keywords or phrases. The keyword thesaurus contains over 2,100 keywords grouped under 45 general categories.
