5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful explanations and practice problems
Just want to reiterate what many say here--this book is helpful for your college orgo class from the very first day. It may not mirror exactly what your class teaches (mine went into more depth on some subjects and less on others), but the skills it teaches are important to know for the MCAT and will make any orgo test more approachable. I found it to be far more readable than my textbook (McMurry).

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes Organic Chemistry Easy
1) You need to buy part 2 of this series if you are also taking the second semester of OChem.
2) Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many little tricks in this book that makes the explanation on your textbook laughable. My textbook (Hornback's book) explains almost everything in the most complicated way possible (I have no idea why Hornback wants to confuse the students) but this book strips all of the nonsense and gets right down to the explanation in simple terms that anyone can understand.

Bottom line is this: if you want to *DESTROY* OChem, this book is your primary weapon!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect!
The book itself arrived on time and in perfect condition. Couldn't ask for more!
I also really like this book. It is much more clear than my textbook and is very helpful in walking me through the steps to solve a problem (all the answers are in the back of the book, too!). Would definitely recommend to any OChemI students.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Textbook Supplement
This book was an excellent supplement for my organic chemistry course. Concepts are explained clearly and practice problems help enforce what is learned. Unfortunately, my professor did not take the time to explain reasoning and theory behind certain concepts, so students were left to learn on their own with the textbook (which, itself, is not the most useful tool). I was very satisfied when I purchased this book and am confident it helped me to succeed in organic chemistry.

4-0 out of 5 stars Organic Chemistry I For Dummies
Complements the workbook well. It's a good book to have if you just want simplier, more clear-cut answers than those which are found in a textbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars refresher book
This book is exactly what I was looking for to read over the summer to prep for fall classes and keep my mind fresh.

4-0 out of 5 stars Use it with a Textbook.
This book is great, but I recommend using it in addition with a textbook if you really want to understand the concepts better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This is a great book!! I made an A in orgo I with it, and everyone in my class got it.The workbook is a must have also.In orgo just reading isn't enough, you have to practice the problems to get it!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Organic 1 Review material
This book is the reason why i passed my organic course. It breaks everything down step by step, so that when your open your massive text book you actually have a clue to what is going on. 4-0 out of 5 stars Great help
BE WARNED
This book DOES NOT cover everything in the second semester of a typical organic chemistry 2 class. The NMR, IR, mass spectra are not discussed - something I had most trouble with. However, this is a must have for synthesis problems.
The authors are geniuses, they made it interesting and easy.

3-0 out of 5 stars ok for brushing up on ochem
problems are too easy. everything is simplified for you.did not like the organization of the book.good for supplementing your ochem text or for cramming, but not recommmended to learn from.the mechanisms are ok...not that good and there aren't that many.some rxns are slightly different maybe its the author's preference for some reagents?i somewhat regret purchasing this...did not purchase the first semester version, only purchased this from a friend who recommended it

5-0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Book
This book will make the difference for you between a miserable semester and a successful, enjoying one.
Klein makes Organic Chemistry interesting, clear and ENJOYING, which is a thing I wouldn't imagine I would say about OC, before encountering Klein's book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Organic Chemistry II as a Second Language
A concise and clearly written summary of organic chemistry essentials. It would have been a great help when I first took organic chemistry forty nine years ago.

4-0 out of 5 stars Organic Chemistry I Workbook For Dummies
Lots of space for practice, with explanations given as well. The only part that I dislike is how it's arranged; it's difficult to find exactly what you want practice in.However, if you just want a general overview of all the concepts in Organic Chemistry I, then this is a must have.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great!
This book is good to read in accordance with a text book. I don't recommend just using this book if you want to learn about Organic Chemistry. Some concepts are not explained as well and my need more examples.

5-0 out of 5 stars useful book
if you are taking organic class and nothing make sence to you, get this book. It helped me a lot to understand the basic thought on Organic Chem. You may still need to read your text book for details specially if your teacher is very much deteil oriented like mine.

3-0 out of 5 stars Helpful
Lots of problems here to solve. I would use it with Organic Chemistry for Dummies. I never could get the knack of Organic Chemistry, but itwasn't the book's fault. This is actually a helpful book with some good practice problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Ice Breaker
This is an extremely well done introduction to ochem.I've read a lot of Dummies books, and this is one of the best written. No small feat considering people with PhDs in the hard sciences are challenged to teach at an introductory level.

It's quite simple, so of limited use by the end of the first semester of a 2 semester ochem series. Despite what the title suggests, it's got a brief explanation of the material, and then some questions. It's not strictly a workbook.

I would strongly suggest getting it just before going into ochem to get a brief overview, and by the end of the first semester you'll see where things are heading in the 2nd semester. The practice questions are also good for the level of the book.

Don't expect to get much out of this book if you are at the end of the year and looking for more practice questions. It's too basic for that.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent
Although this was a great book that quickly summarizes detailed and complex topics of organic chemistry; there is at a least one error that can really lead the reader astray. My example is the definition of aromatic compounds. The book states that cyclooctatetraene is an anti-aromatic compound. However, this is only true if cyclooctatetraene is planar. Unfortunately, cyclooctatetraene can shift out of plane thus making it non-aromatic. This little error isn't too bad but it can screw you over on a test. In summary, I believe this book is helpful in COMPLEMENTING your primary textbook.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very good
Not very impressed with this book. I'm taking organic 2 in the summer so I was excited that I would have this book to go along with the class. It is not as good as the first organic for dummies book. The author's don't use helpful analogies to help you remember things like the organic 1 for dummies author did. Some of the concepts are still very difficult to understand. I wish they "dumbed" it down a little more. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Study Guide with Solutions Manual for McMurry's Organic Chemisty, 7th
I'm using this book in my first year of organic chemistry, very helpful with the solutions to the problems in the book, and efficient in helping study for an exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty helpful
The textbook itself is not always as clear as it could be.This solutions manual is definitely helpful to have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good
Product was what I wanted and the description was accurate. Shipping was fast as well. Had no problems.

3-0 out of 5 stars Meh.
Let's be honest: paying nearly $100 for a solutions manual sort of...well, sucks.

The pricing is especially onerous as one has already invested nearly $200 in McMurry's text, which does not include the answers to problems in the back, making the study guide a necessary evil.

If you're using McMurry, you're going to need this.I can't say I like it so far; the answers don't always seem to match the problems exactly, but I'm sure at some point it will be very useful. ... Read more

Product Description
Organized around functional groups, this book incorporates problem-solving help, orientation features, and complete discussions of mechanisms. Wade explains concepts without taking the unnecessary short cuts that often lead to misconceptions—his hallmark problem-solving approach includes unique strategies and hints to help readers focus on the individual steps of each reaction and how they contribute to the overall reaction. Wade also employs the most  efficient method of mechanism boxes with its two-tiered approach: Mechanism and Key Mechanism Boxes. He delineates the 20 “Key” mechanisms that comprise nearly all of the mechanisms students will encounter. Therefore, the book takes one additional and important step in helping readers identify and grapple with the smallest number of the most important concepts to understand.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid OChem Prep
This text by Wade is the next in a long line of excellent Organic Chem books that I used in high school through college. Previous editions have been top notch, always with clear pictures and text that is easy to read. Unlike other texts, this one does not cram text onto the page but keeps it comfortable. The graphics are memorable, and the organization is logical which helps with retention. I've used Wade text for a few years now and can recommend them with assurance. OChem can be fun, at least in my opinion. Enjoy!

In this innovative text, Bruice balances coverage of traditional topics with bioorganic chemistry to show how organic chemistry is related to biological systems and to our daily lives. Functional groups are organized around mechanistic similarities, emphasizing what functional groups do rather than how they are made. Tying together the reactivity of a functional group and the synthesis of compounds resulting from its reactivity prevents students from needing to memorize lists of unrelated reactions. The Sixth Edition has been revised and streamlined throughout to enhance clarity and accessibility, and adds a wealth of new problems and problem-solving strategies.

3-0 out of 5 stars The pointy end of the textbook racket.
It would've been nice if this had cost an order of magnitude less.Unfortunately, I, as a student, have no choice in what books I buy, and that's probably why textbooks have such abusive prices. My only choice is who it is that gets to gouge well north of $100 for something that costs around $10 to print; in any case, when class starts, I must have the book--and looky here, it's a new edition. It was this (~$160) or the campus bookstore (~$250).Either one was going to put a nasty dent in my wallet.I suppose it could've been worse.

1-0 out of 5 stars Less explanation
I bought this book hoping to find a detail explanation for every questions asked in the book. However, it does not. Almost all the answers are given directly without explanation. Even there is an explanation, it would be short and not helpful at all! We have to look back at the notes to find the reason for every answer! The book itself is a SOLUTION MANUAL and STUDY GUIDE! It should give the solution for every answer. Not just the answer. And it should GUIDE people to understand the answer given! Not just give the answer directly.

I do not recommend this book for those who seek detail explanation. It not worth the money. 100 bucks for just answers without detail explanation? Totally wasted!

Product Description
The Ninth Edition of Organic Chemistry continues Solomons-Fryhle's tradition of excellence in teaching and preparing students for success in the organic classroom and beyond.

Students are often overwhelmed by the early rigors of organic chemistry. Solomons-Fryhle prepares students for these early rigors by introducing acids & bases--topics they know from general chemistry--early, followed by chapters on structure and stereochemistry. Next, a discussion of ionic reactions gives students a foundation for the vast majority of reactions that they will encounter. The Ninth Edition continues to introduce IR spectroscopy in chapter 2 (after functional groups) and Carbon-13 NMR spectroscopy in chapter 4, providing synergy with most lab courses and, again, reinforcing learning.

The new edition of Solomons-Fryhle also has a completely revised WileyPLUS course to help students and instructors reach their full potential. WileyPLUS provides instructors with the most robust online homework solution in organic chemistry. This revision of WileyPLUS meets students where and when they learn and provides them with a learning platform that offers real learning solutions that complement their approach to managing and mastering organic concepts. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good Transaction
Although I ordered this book as an old one, I have received itin a very good condition

2-0 out of 5 stars why????
This book was just fine for an intro course in Organic Chemistry. Why did the authors feel the need to come out with a new edition only 2 years later? To make the book more helpful for students?
It only ends up hurting us, the students, who cannot sell back their old books, for which they paid exorbitant amounts of money. Either make the books cheaper or stop coming out with new editions so frequently.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste paper, it's online
I don't know about other classes, but for my class I was required to sign up for "Wiley". Because I bought this book used it did not come with a free Wiley subscription and I therefor had to buy a [...] subscription to Wiley and when I log on what do I find? The whole book is available to me ONLINE! So not only did I not have to buy this book but because it is available online I can't even resell it for a good price seeing as it only goes for [...] used. As for how it teaches I liked the diagrams and I didn't find too much trouble when it came to actually reading it. However I cannot believe that I could have just used the online version (which I used most of the time any ways because my laptop is lighter than this book). So do you self a favor and just sign up for Wiley (eco-friendly online version) and either buy the answer books (answer not available through Wiley for some odd reason) or look on with a friend who has the answer book.

1-0 out of 5 stars never recieved
Although, I was refunded on this product I was not satisfied with how the entire purchase was handled. After not receiving this item I inquired about it and the seller claimed they had mailed it to me,rather than admitting they forgot to mail it.Normally when you order something from Amazon they send you an email that they have shipped the item even when its a used item seller.I never received an email. It was important to obtain this study guide. I would not do business with someone so unreliable.
Amazon; however, continues to provide great customer service.

3-0 out of 5 stars Organic Chemistry Student study guide/solutions manuel by Smith
I received the Student Study Guide/Solutions Manuel to accompany Organic Chemistry 2nd edition by Janice Gorzynski Smith. This copy however was not an actual reproduction from the publisher McGraw Hill but rather a photo copy. It arrived in a poorly glued binder that I had to re-bind or else the pages would have started to fall out. The cost was reasonable however at 40.00.

2-0 out of 5 stars Book is good, seller is bad.
The product is very helpful if you're taking an organic chemistry class. The best way to learn in OChem is to try the problems in the book and learn from them.
The only thing I didn't like about this product was that it was sent to me PHOTOCOPIED and WAS NOT THE ACTUAL BOOK. I have seen the actual book, and this was not it. So, I am disappointed in that respect and have contacted the seller.

I got everything within a timely manner with everything included. No missing pieces (not to mention that it was still wrapped in the ceram wrap.) Shipping accurate.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantasatic Molecular Model Kit!
This is a great alternative to the expensive Prentice Hall set. It's not the standard because it works a little differently, but with a little practice and use, you can understand molecules, their angles and configurations with this set. It's smaller, compact, easier to put together/take apart, and comes with many extra pieces. I've had the opportunity to compare because I use the Prentice Hall set in a discussion section for my course, and that set uses a tool to remove the Hydrogens. No tools with this set! We also run out of the Halogens almost always, even after just making a few small molecules. This set has a TON of halogens! I like that I can create my molecules, throw it in my bookbag, and not worry about them falling apart or breaking because they are made of a flexible plastic rather than something hard that can break. This molecule set has helped me understand ALOT, especially R and S configurations. It also shipped VERY fast from MegaMolecules, thankfully right before an exam! Thanks for making a great product that I am using way more than I expected!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product for the money
I bought this for my husband who is a Biotechnology major and has several chemistry classes. He really likes this kit - it small and portable for him to take to class & lab, and it seems to have everything he needs to make the models. It's great for visualization. Great product for the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome
great great great great.cheap and it does what it is suppose to.don't buy a huge expensive model set.one minor draw back is that the chair conformations aren't super duper but you get the gist with this set.I'm going to get another one so i can bigger models with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great price and excellent quality!
Don't waste your money on any other chemistry model kit...this one is the absolute best out there for its price. To compare with other kits, here's what this one contains:

5-0 out of 5 stars Study Guide
I ordered this book to help me with organic chemistry, and I do not regret it at all. Made grade has gone up to an A after purchasing this book, and I absolutely love it. It was not possible to know the answers to the text book problems without it. Organic chemistry requires a lot of practice, so if you buy the textbook, it is a necessity to also purchase the solutions manual. Your life will be so much easier with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Organic Chemistry by Janice Gorzynski Smith (Hardcover)

As a student I find this text one of the best I have ever used. The easy to follow bulleted information format theme throughout the book is extremely helpful both in learning the material and studying for a test. Its beautiful cover, clean molecular graphics, and relevant aside images create a pleasant aesthetic that transfers to the material and enhances the learning process. Visualization is so important for organic chemistry and beautifully presented here. Chapter and page layouts make sense and are easy to follow as new subjects are presented. If you are a professor I would recommend you start using this text book to teach your O-Chem course, your students will benefit from it.

I needed to know Organic Chemistry by Janice Gorzynski Smith was THE book that was required for my class. Having the full cover image, author information, and ISBN displayed prominently saved me time, energy, and heartache.

2-0 out of 5 stars smoked up
I have purchased books from Amazon before, but this time I really dont like the book I purchase and I would really like my money back, when I received my book, I could tell it was a chain smoker who had this book it reaked of smoke I cannot put any of my notes inside the book because it smells just like smoke and the outside of the book when you close it you can tell he or she spilled coffee along the pages.Someone should have really looked over this book before selling this piece of scrap to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Condition
I received my item in about a week and a half after I ordered it. And it was in perfect condition, still in shrink wrap.

1-0 out of 5 stars Never got the item
The item never got to me. The seller never responded to my emails. It seems the seller scammed several people at the same time. Or the seller simply failed to mention that the item was being shipped from Australia, and that the postal workers are on strike. I agree with the previous reviewer who said that this seller should be banned from amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
A good find! Excellent condition. Exactly the copy I was looking for, and it shipped so quickly too! As a college student getting new books at fair prices is always important, thank goodness for amazon.com! I avoided waiting in a long bookstore line just to get to the checkout and pay too much for a junky and written all over used copy. Students check on amazon.com for your books before getting ripped off at the campus bookstores!

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Made Chemistry Easy To Learn
Everything in the book was easy to understand. I am not sure how hard Chemistry is supposed to be since using this book explained all the concepts so simply. I was incredibly fortunate to be taught by Dr. Frost, one of the authors. Her style of teaching is all over this book. Direct, to the point, and simple to understand. The sections in each chapter were kept fairly short and I never felt overloaded with information. There were enough graphics, pictures, tables, and charts to explain the material visually. Interspersed in each section were practice problems to grasp the concepts before moving on and there were additional problems at the end of each chapter. This is a gem of a book and having it to study by allowed me to make an A in the class. Having never taken a Chemistry class before I didn't know what to expect. Sciences get a bum rap for being hard to understand yet I did not find this to be true at all with Dr. Frost's class or her book. Thank you Dr. Frost for your book and a really great class! ... Product Description
The Solutions Manual, prepared by Jan W. Simek of California Polytechnic State University, contains complete solutions to all the problems. The Solutions Manual also gives helpful hints on how to approach each kind of problem. This supplement is a useful aid for any student, and it is particularly valuable for students who feel they understand the material but need more help with problem solving. Appendix 1 of the Solutions Manual summarizes the IUPAC system of nomenclature. Appendix 2 reviews and demonstrates how acidity varies with structure in organic molecules, and how one can predict the direction of an acid--base equilibrium. Brief answers to many of the in-chapter problems are given at the back of this book. These answers are sufficient for a student on the right track, but they are of limited use to one who is having difficulty working the problems. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The True Survival Guide for Organic Chemistry
I neglected and ignored this book for the first part of the course, and this was reflected in my grade. However for the second part of the course, I attempted almost every problem in each chapter, and used the solutions manual to check my work. Not only were the answers very helpful, but I didn't use the access card at all.Wade provides plenty of material to let the student grasp organic chem concepts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend it!!!
I strongly recommend students to get the solutions manual. It really helped me when doing homework.I am able to know whether I am doing it right or wrong, it pointed out my mistakes so I could correct them when time came to take the test. Also, it saves me time.

5-0 out of 5 stars life saver
I would have probably failed o-chem without this book. Although it does not explain how they got the answers, it is really helpful for copying for homework credit. and it occasionally helped me learn something

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely necessary for Org Chem
If your text book is Organic Chemisty by Wade, this solutions manual is a MUST-HAVE.The book has many problems, and only some have the answers in the back so that you may check your answers. But there is very very few questions in the book that show you how to solve it.The solutions manual shows you step-by-step ways to solve the problems and gives you tips and reasons why the answer is the way it is.I cant imagine having taken Organic without the solutions manual.Taking this course with our this manual is just making this class 5x harder for no need!I highly recommend this book! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Has Depth and Breadth
I chose this over the DUMMIES organic guide because I find the DUMMIES series formats visually unappealing, which makes a lot of difference in whether I actually want to sit down and read the book.

There was a great deal of information in the book, most of which was explained fairly well, but unlike one of the other reviewers, I wish that the author HAD spent more time on more basic concepts. I know a little about organic, though, so for me, it wasn't that big of a deal.

I found the treatment of topics pretty thorough, and I would generally recommend the book, but I wouldn't recommend it by itself. Having something else along with it would be more helpful. Of course, isn't that the case for most textbook-like books? One source just isn't enough if you really want a complete grasp of the material.

1-0 out of 5 stars One trillionth long scale or one billionth short scale?- micromicron, stigma, or bicron?
The arrogance of academia slams one into mystery within the very first paragraph. Why? Well for example, page 2 para 1:"... 1 A equals 1x10-10 m, or pm where 1 pm equals 1x10-12 m."

What? Forget the shorthand for picometre as used in particle physics? It used to be called a micromicron or stigma or bicron but that's okay to have a bit of mystery in the very first paragraph to dampen the student's enthusiasm isn't it?...coupled with the frustration of NO GLOSSARY of terms to assuage ones doubts in order to continue with some degree of certainty.

I bought this book to review my civil engineering education in wastewater treatment. I had received high marks in Organic Chemistry and loved the subject. Now I found myself scrambling through my old textbooks which I thought I would not have to do since buying this "demystification guide" ...but with NO GLOSSARY with which to reconfirm prior studies, and the author's arrogant presumption that the reader would just have to consult google or wikipedia for straight data, I give this work one pico-star for presumptuous teaching attitude.

4-0 out of 5 stars Seems somewhat shallow
For its volume, it seems that in many instances the author spends way too much time explaining simple concepts. I still would not want to downplay the value of this book as it might be a good resource for those with basic understanding of chemistry. After all this is the intent of the Demystified series to lay down scientific subjects as simple as possible. For those who are preparing for the MCAT and already have a tangible grasp of the subject, prepare to experience exactly this: the time spent on the book may be felt as spent inefficiently.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Bet
I couldn't figure out which organic chem book was best from the Amazon reviews, so I ventured out to my local Borders bookstore and compared about 6 or 8 of them."Demystified" was the clear winner thanks to clarity and depth of explanation, chapter tests, a brief review of inorganic, and an engaging style of writing."Organic for Dummies" was my second choice (seemed insightful) but none of the others held up when checked side-by-side.For instance I checked out 'esters' in all books, and got a short paragraph in every one except Demystified, which managed to devote a few pages to an actual explanation. I even paid full retail for it - still a great deal for this book. (sorry Amazon)

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good supplement
Started with another common book as a supplement to my course that simply wasn't cutting it. I picked up this book and it is a very good course supplement! A good breakdown to simply better understand what a standard textbook and the prof is trying to get accross, this book is exactly what you need to make it all make sense. The quizzes are extremely helpful too! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I needed
This book was exactly what I needed to prepare for the ACS exam in Organic Chemistry.

5-0 out of 5 stars ACS
item delivered in good amount of time. Highly suggest this book for all students taking organic chemistry. It really helps with the final.

2-0 out of 5 stars This book is a good review, at best..
I recently took the acs organic national final (fall 09). I used this book only to prepare for my exam, due to the time constraints of my other finals. Just for your info I am a good organic student, making an A in organic 1 and having an A in organic 2 before the final at a very highly honored Chemistry institute (Marshall University). With that said this book isn't really worth the money unless your scenario fits mine, not enough time and don't know what else to look at. I had to make above a 35/70 for an A and I barely did that. The book is a general overview of the concepts on the test but the test itself is very complex. There was many things on the test I hadn't ever seen before (reactions and reagents). I wish you all good luck and in my opinion the book isn't worth it unless you have no other reliable options.

3-0 out of 5 stars ACS Organic Review Manual
Manual is excellent for preparing you for the ACS part of your organic final. However, the "like new" item that I received was hardly that. The material can be quickly reviewed and there are a few end of section questions to reinforce the material and it shouldn't detract from your normal textbook studies so you can do both if you're not too pressed for time. I definitely recommend you getting this manual just be careful on who you get it from. ... Read more
