Origami paper
I purchased this item for my grandson and he has been delighted to have the paper he needs at his finger tips and is also able to share with his brothers who now also feel the need to get with the program.They have loved it.......

Convenient
I bought this paper pack a couple of weeks ago and found out that it contains only 2 papers each of the various colors. Maybe I overlooked it while buying. But this made it impossible for me to fold Modular origami models or Kusudamas. This paper pack will be ideal in case you are more in the habit of folding models of animals, butterflies and such. Good quality and folds easily, otherwise. The colors are bright too.

A Must-Have!
This ia must-have for origami enthusists, so much so that even though my hard bound copy is probably buried somewhere in my house, I bought the paper bound copy anyway.It is organized by the folding designer, including many famous names in origami.I started with this book many years ago and find myself returning to it again and again.

Inspiration for the Young and Young at Heart
It seems that at some point every kid becomes intrigued with origami. Folding a piece of paper to create something resurrects (as often as you like) the exciting sensation of opening a gift that is all for you. This book came into our house when I was ten years old and I spent many delightful hours entertaining myself poring over its pages. More than thirty years later, I asked my parents what had happened to the book, and they didn't know. I became obsessed with finding it because there was one model which I had not quite mastered-- "It's Magic!"But, my parents' copy of the book was gone. Happily, it can be found in very limited supply here and there online. If you can find a one, snatch it up. Harbin is the grandfather of origami written instruction in America. This book is his "piece de resistance", where he put everything together and set the bar for others to follow. Watch out for subtle errors which may cause confusion. Also, don't confuse this earlier edition (1971) with the later one (1993).

A classic - a truly great book
I first encountered this book in its original hardback form when rather young -- around 11 years old.It provides a very rich diversity of models and covers a wide range of difficulty levels (although none are as hard as in some "enthusiast" books such as some by Montroll).Many of the models convey a sense of simple beauty.I had lost track of the book over the years, and was very pleased to recently discover that it was republished.I just bought another copy and folded a pigeon (but folding the head according to one of the other bird models since the suggested pigeon head is a little simplistic).It brings back many fond memories of my first encounters with this wonderful craft.To me, this book is a classic.

Not for the first timer
I really like this book, but you need to have a little experience with origami to use it.I could make cranes, boxes and water bombs before I bought this book.I've learned a lot from it but there have been a number of folds that I couldn't understand until I saw them demonstrated.And there are still lots of things I can't figure out, especially pieces that have to be turned inside out.If you've never folded, this is not the book for you.

The best is back
My Great-Aunt introduced me to many things - astronomy, biology, and origami.This was in her personal library and when I'd visit we would always pull it out and make at least one of the figures in the book.She had already managed to do nearly every figure but she was patient and I would try my best to keep up.When she died, I looked for the book but it had mysteriously disappeared.I saw that it was back in print and I snatched a copy up right away.This is the best folding book that I have ever run across.It has models that range from the very simple to the VERY difficult.You can fold out of this book for a lifetime and never fail to learn something or see something new.A great book... grab it while you can and fold your heart out! ... almost worthless
I am not sure why an author of origami would publish a book that doesn't show a picture or a drawing after or during a fold.That way I would know for sure that my folds were in the correct direction.I have another book that does this and it was so clear with how to complete a project.With digital photography today, it should be so easy to do.

fun but frustrating?
I thought this would be a fun way to give money as a gift by tucking 20 one dollar bills between the pages. When my sons and grandsons flipped through, they were definitely delighted with the dollars, but most of the origami was pretty advanced and hard to follow. They soon lost interest, but still talk about the novelty of the packaging.

So-so
I bought this title for a 16-year-old female who really likes origami but she couldn't successfully complete most of the projects.Though the book offers a neat variety of end products, the directions are confusing/inadequate.This item should be purchased mostly by/for origami lovers with lots of experience, who can intuit the steps and folds that must occur between the steps that are actually illustrated.

God but tough
This is very similar to his other book.It has some great ideas but the directions are less than desireable.Not for beginers.(barely for the hard core folder)The tree on the front of the book we pretty easy.But most of the folds seem to skip steps and leave you scratching your head.It is a good addition to my collection but "the buck book" & "the guide to Hawaiian-style money folds" are the best ones I own.

Awesome and Epic
This book has nearly 40 different models of origami from the frog to a dolphin, a sea shell, several different fishes like a shark, barracuda, and simpler fishes. But the models get difficult very quickly. A few are for beginners, most are for the more experienced veterans, especially the lobster and urchins.

Well worth the money though if you are a fan of Montroll and Lang.

For Advanced Origamists Only!
My daughter and I are fairly good at origami.We have found every item in this book to be impossible, even the supposedly easy "1 Star" items. The directions say things like "rabbit ear fold" but "rabbit ear fold" is not in the book.There is tons of little niggly folding (19 folds for the tail of a whale) that it seems they could do in fewer steps. They also don't tell you which part you are folding, so you can't use "the big picture" to do our folding when you don't understand the step-by-step directions.

Definitely a 'must have'!
I bought this book pretty recently and have liked the designs in it. John Montroll and Robert Lang have detailed out the steps really well in the book and has designs for everyone, from beginners to advanced folders. However, there are very few designs for beginners and therefore its a good idea to buy this book if you have a bit of experience in origami as most of the pretty designs are intermediate to complex in nature.

These designs all require square sheets of paper to start of with and you would need a minimum or 8" or larger to have a decent sized finished model. However, you could try with smaller sized sheet too. Papers which are both single side colored or dual colored can be used.

The book has 38 designs to choose from out of which 3 are extremely simple in nature, 15 intermediate, 13 complex and 7 are very complex by nature.

A Seafood Feast for the Rabid Origamian
This is one of my favorite origami books of all time (and not just because I was in on its creation). Though there are some nice, reasonably simple models here, the target audience is the experienced folder. All models come from squares with no cutting necessary! This book includes some of my favorite models to fold including Dr. Lang's "Lionfish" (which makes a very nice topper for a non-traditional Christmas tree), John Montroll's Freshwater Angelfish (which looks exactly like the real thing!) and both author's contributions of Deep Sea Anglerfishes. The more intricate models, like the "Cuttlefish", crabs and "Blackdevil Anglerfish" require large paper (24"x24" at least) which you will need to prepare yourself. The paper for these models must also be fairly thin but also strong. I have gone to the expedient of making my own from scratch. If you are interested in making your own paper for origami check out Advanced Origami: An Artist's Guide to Performances in Paper by Michael J. LaFosse. For the most part, though, the models are well designed and reasonably well diagrammed.

My favorite origami book so far
The finished models in this book are great, they are clearly identifiable species, not just generic fish, crabs, etc.
What really makes the book stand out, however, are the folding sequences. The steps flow with a natural rythm, and every tricky step is clearly explained. Because the authors have created unique bases for each model, the results of a given step are often pleasantly surprising.
I have a pile of origami books, and this is my favorite so far by a pretty wide margin. When I finish folding everything in it, I will probably fold them all again because they are so much fun. ... Read more

Release your inner origami designer
The designs in this book are deceptively simple.What this book did for me that no other origami book has done was stimulate me into creating my own origami designs.

If what you want is someone else's harder and harder designs to merely reproduce, this book will disappoint you.You won't find a compendium of unique, obscure, challenging designs in this book, but if you are ready to find them inside yourself, this book may help guide your discovery.Absolutely the best book for beginning folders, and the only book for beginning origami designers I've ever seen.

One of the best overall books
I have about 300 origami books and have designed several hundred of my own models and Origami Made Easy is still the book I most recommend.

Kunihiko Kasahara is one of the most prolific origami writers.Origami Made Easy is one of his older books but it has been constantly in print and that is rare in origami books.

The book is nicely organized in sections by theme and the drawings are quite clear.The diagrams follow the standard Yoshizawa\Randlett style using just diagrams and almost no text to show how to fold figures.

Some of my favorite models are in this book, including my favorite peacock.

I have always felt it was best to learn origami by example with a teacher or tutor and not straight from a book (as I was forced to do), but for folders just getting into the art I would always recommend this book.

this book is good for giving instruction on the different forms of folds but the illistrations and diagrams are were this book lacks. the diagrams are there but there is only one or two explinations of the different steps. I find it very hard to follow instructions when all I see is a picture telling me to do something and I don't have an explination. so I say if your in need of learning how to make certain folds then by all means use this book but using it to learn how to make an item is very difficult and I don't recomend this book.

Good basic book for beginners
This was one of my first origami books.I now have several dozen origami books, but I still come back to this for a few models every now and then.

It is a very good book for learning/teaching the basics, and the models reflect the attribute I most admire in Kasahara's work - elegance. Be they simple orcomplicated, Mr. Kasahara's models have just the right balance of detail, to make them look full, and restraint, to avoid looking forced.

This makes an excellent introduction to origami, not only in its instruction of the techniques of paper-folding but also in the esthetics of what makes a model successful.

Good for children and beginners, but very short
This is a pretty short basic origami book.It has simplemodels that are fairly well illustrated.It's geared more towardschildren or for classroom use.Frankly, I felt ripped off taking this book out of the library.There are better uses of your origami dollars.I could see this, along with a pack of paper, making a nice gift for a child.I would definitely not buy it for someone past 12. ... 3 nice models and challenging easy to expert models too.
This was my first book too. However my 5 stars on this book is because Montroll's Stink Bug and the Grasshoper are, in my oppinion, pure origami and both a masterpiece.
There are other models on this book which will teach you basics to create your own models in the future. Like eg. how to make four legs and separate parts of the paper for wings etc.

Must have for sure. Enthusiasts ftw! ^^

What a treat!
I still vividly recall the delight I found when a friend got this book for me.It was introduced with the notion that, since there were many more beginners than advanced folders, most of the books were for beginners, but NOT THIS ONE.Aha!At last!And it was true - some of the models are fairly straight-forward, but others are still challenging.And, to the best of my knowledge, this is the only origami vulture in existence - it looks so great on a Christmas tree!

I've since had the pleasure of meeting John and folding many of his newer creations, but I still hold this book in high esteem because it was The First.

one of my best books
I was 14 when I bought this origami book and Iwas simply astonished with the variety and the complexity of the animals(well some of them)
but now iIam much more experient than other days and noticed that this is only an "average"complex book.
there are some jewels on this book and also some weird models
the elephant is my all-time favorite model,and the insects(except the bbeetle)are amazing
but geting back to the bad parts .. the pegasus looks like a winged dog,I think the rhino's head is very strange,the whale is very stylized and it's impressive how every toucan that john montroll designs don't look like a real one
but afterall this is a cool book if you are tired of those simple models they teach on TV

A Well-Rounded Offering of Origami
This was one of the first origami books I purchased, it has a very wide range of designs, with a great section in the beginning outlining the basic folds.The animals are cute, and there's always more difficult ones as you progress! Recommended!

One of the first, and best books, by John Montroll
John Montroll is considered on of the premier folders of animal origami, certainly in the US, if not the world. I actually had the pleasure of folding some of his models he was still working on for one of his books, when a member of the local origami club. His newer books certainly have cleaner, crisper diagrams, but this book has a lot of my favorite models, and is still well worth the cost. Fab book
I just folded the regular tetrahedron. The instructions were perfectly clear. I've been looking everywhere for clear instructions on how to fold the regular platonic solids, and this book has it, well illustrated, and easy to follow.

BTW, for those looking for things to do with "simple" models, like the regular polyhedra, they make great jewelry, if folded with small pieces of paper. I plan to make them for my favorite mathematicians. My next step is going to be to figure out how to print pascal's triangle on pieces of paper, so that they can be folded into Pascal's triangle/tetrahedral earrings.

Great origami instruction
The directions in this book are very clear!It is an exceptional origami pattern book/instruction manual.

Fantastic origami book
We have used many origami books but this is the first that has consistently stayed on the kitchen counter for weeks at a time. We have origami tetrahedrons, dodecahedrons, and tetrahedral skeletons all over the house! My 8 year old son has gone origami crazy, all because of this book. The photos are gorgeous - colorful and full of inspiration. The illustrations are excellent - easy to understand, although some of the more complicated figures did take more than one try. Now we need a good source for bulk origami paper.

My son has tried using different size papers, experimented with variations on the instructions, and deconstructed the tetrahedron to see what folds it creates on the paper. He has discovered that the dodecahedron has 20 sides - it can be made with 10 tetrahedrons, each showing 2 sides out (I think - I haven't spent nearly as much time as he has on this stuff). He is still an early reader and has been able to do many of the designs just by following the illustrations and ignoring the written instructions.

Hands down, a wonderful book. Highly recommended!

Mixed feelings
I was a bit disappointed with this book.I feel that many of the models are "simple looking" and therefore, couldn't figure out what to do with them once I'd folded them.They seemed too simple to put on display anywhere I do, however, really like the star section of the book.

As normal with modular origami, be prepared to fold many units!

If you are not a beginner folder, I recommend Tomoko Fuse's Unit Origami: Multidimensional Transformations over this book.

Great - with some caveats
I'm not really an origami fundamentalist, but I prefer modulars that hold together without glue.Miyuki's models are wonderful, but many of them do require glue.I've overcome my aversion and enjoyed them greatly, but you should be aware of the fact that it takes a little more than simple folding for these! ... Marvelous Modular Models!
I got this book after browsing through the author's well-known website for modular origami. It's a very nice book explaining how to make great looking modular balls. The diagrams are very clear and well described with pictures showing how the modular unit should look like in each step. Being just over an year old in the origami world, I got stumped a couple of times but seeing the diagram of the next step helped me figure out the fold. All I needed was a little bit of practice and a bit more patience. For beginners like me, it's a good practice to make one unit using a printer paper and understand all the steps. Also, I recommend reading the 'Homogeneous Color Tiling' section of the book if one is using multiple colors for making a model.

I believe even a beginner, after getting a bit familiar with the basic origami diagrams, can fold the models in the book as there are no complex folds involved. I highly recommend this book. And if you are into polyhedra and floral models, it is a must.

No good
This is the second book of the same author that I bought. It is a deception. The printing quality is very bad, the format of the book is not useful and the most important thing: The diagrams are not well done and the explanation is not clear. In general most of the model are adptation from others model but not very clear. Truly is a very bad book!

This book is definitely not for beginners, but the art work you can create from paper is beautiful!The illustrations and instructions are easy to follow and the photography georgeous.It's a great book for all those origami creators...

This book contains some of the best and most functional origami patterns ever developed
In so many ways, origami is the perfect activity for young children. Using only simple movements that even young ones can master at a high enough level, students can create beautiful things. The pot is made even sweeter by the fact that the cost of the raw materials is so low. By practicing first using printer paper, the students can hone their skills before moving on to the development of the finished product.
This book contains some of the best and most functional origami patterns ever developed. The end results are spectacular and the directions are very easy to follow. I am on good terms with the education department at Mount Mercy College and will be showing them this book when classes start this fall.

Good for the beginner.
It's a nice book about modular origami, but not so original. I've found some of its diagrams in other books or over the Internet, but here they're detailed and made easy to accomplish. Where the book is original, it's because minimal changes over past work of others. Nonetheless, it's a good compilation, worth buying if you are new to modular origami.
What is a real flaw is that the pics on the book aren't that good. Some are poorly shot. And others have average quality, but the models are badly assembled, greatly because most of the models deal with both sides colored paper, and the author build'em with single side colored ones. That spoils part of the beauty of the origamis.
The good news are that in the coda of the book you can find some mathematical descriptions of paperfolding theory, and some color schemes on how to assemble the polyhedra contained in this book. An overall good book. For the beginner.

Koo-Koo Ca- CHOO for Gery Hsu
I'm sorry, Mr Hsu, this book didn't do it for me. the designs were nice and all, BUT too complicated and not exactly well thought out in terms of folding. This bookis a total nightmare for the adverage or advanced origami folder. On the upside, if you want to DISCOURAGE someone to the joys of origami, this book is for you!

too difficult for my son and me
My son wanted to have a challenge but this is too challenging for him. I can't really help him either I have a hard time understanding the directions and it is too dificult even for my oldest son who is very

Challenging, but worth it
The planes in this book are amoung the most challenging I have seen in a published book. I'll admit that I haven't completed them all yet, but that's because my younger brother took the book. A number of the planes look very similar to their real-life counterparts and still fly well if made correctly.

The techniques shown in the book may be hard to initially figure out, but I have applied them very well to my own plane designs. For the low price of the book, it is definitely worth buying to expand your knowledge of paper airplane design.

Oh, yea... Previous origami experience is highly recommended. These are all made from square sheets.

Impossible diagrams!
This book would be fun except the diagrams are very unclear. I have spent upwards of two hours trying to figure out a fold based on a poorly drawn picture and an even poorer direction. Do not buy! You will give yourself a headache.

Good Origami Book for the Money
"Origami with Dollar Bills" is an interesting and fun book with simple to advanced folding projects. We bought this for my son (12) who is really into origami and is fairly good at it.

The book includes 1, 2, & 3 bill projects, some are better than others but they all are possible to make with a little time. We found some of the instructions less than clear and had to take a few minutes to figure out what was needed, but the end result was generaly worth the effort.

Very useful.
This book was used as a research tool in planningcraft activities for children from grades 1 through 6. The variety was wide enough so that we found projects for the entire group. There were a number of truly inspiring adult projects, too,and we'll be working on those for our own pleasure when time allows!

saddened pleasure
Because I have been looking everywhere for a book on how to make washi dolls (the good ones, not the small almost one-dimentional kind), I was hoping, from what the cover shows, that this book would be the one I was looking for.No, it is filled with items I am not interested in.I simply wanted a book on washi paper dolls, and that is all, nothing else in it.Sorry, but I did not enjoy this book.If I was looking for a book that tells how th make all types of fold and creations with paper, then I might have been interested.But, to me this book is of no use to me.

Very interesting!
This book is not what I expected.Instead of a collection of origami patterns, it's more of a collection of folding trivia, history, and folding projects, everything from paper cranes to how to put a cloth diaper on a baby.

It is set up A-Z, with at least one entry for every letter of the alphabet.If you are looking strictly for a book of patterns, this is not for you.If you want to find out about the history and quirky side of origami, go for it!

love this book from my childhood!
I had this book when I was 5 or 6 and absolutely adored it.I lost it and found interest in it again when I sat for an origami class and was reminded of it.The instructions are really easy to follow and there are great models for all ages.

Finally--origami instructions I can understand!
I have been looking for an origami book that I could use with my two young children (ages 4 & 6). We tried several, but all of the instructions were too hard for even me to understand! This book has easy to follow instructions, using a few "bases" from which to make many different things. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to do origami with beginners!

This book is containing much more traditional origami works than another book, written in easy English, and clearly understandable instruction.

Great beginners Origami book
This is a great book for any one that is not very fimiliar with the basics of Origami. All the figures are very simple to make. Every step has a photo, so it great so you can compare how you are doing to the book. Every fold is explained. This book is really for anyone, not just kids, whom is interested in Origami, but doesn't know were to begin. It never get to overwheming that you give up, in the othe hand it build your confidence to learn more.

Best beginner book.....
Twelve years ago, I bought this book.I have since bought at least 15-20 different origami books.Hideaki Sakata's is the best book for beginners by far.
One detail: using the squash fold to make a crane base is better than several other books that show the crane base differently.
You can buy other books, but if you are a beginner, you will find no better.
Five star rating because no possible higher rating.

Just did them all
I have to say, this is probably the best book on the market for the beginner.It takes the reader from the most simple instructions to the more elaborate designs within a slim 66 pages of brightly colored and very clear photos.The folds are never in doubt, as they can be in books that depend more heavily on line drawings and simple sketches alone.Considering its very reasonable price, it's a steal.The models cover a wide range of objects:flowers, fish, birds, animals, furniture, architecture, boxes, and ornaments.

For the beginner--or even for the individual with more randomly acquired expertise--the book is ideally arranged in a logical succession of the "bases."Sakata begins with instructions for folding the base itself then progresses in a very logical manner, showing what objects can be folded from the base.Not only does this help the beginner learn from a strong foundation, it allows the advanced student who learned in a less organized fashion--like myself--to see just how all the objects they learned to fold are related.Although I have books that have said,"this is the bird base,"or whatever, I have not seen one as carefully arrnaged to visually show how the models evolved from a common design.For the advanced student this careful organizational chart might actually assist in creating models of your own, since it permits you to see just how the manipulation of a single line, fold or pocket, can produced amazingly different results.

For the advanced student "Origami" has very little new except organization.For a beginner, however, this is probably THE most solid foundation on which to learn the art that I have ever come across. ... Read more

Difficult to use
This is called Easy Origami but my granddaughter and I found the instructions difficult to follow.

This is a great beginners book
I sent this book to an inmate in the county jail. He got a lot of enjoyment out of it. It is for beginners, and has a lot of the basics covered.

Good challenging start at Oragami ... Well worth it
I purchased this for my 7 year old.The book has some easy start Origami (swan, fish, etc.) and then moves toward others that are more challenging (water bomb, frog, etc.).She really enjoys it.I can see more Origami in her future:)(NOTE: it does not include paper, so I purchased Origami Paper Traditional Prints 8 1/4" 49 Sheets).

Excellent for Beginners
I have been folding for over 50 years andwanted to find a good beginner's book for teaching.

This fit the bill quite well. It has a nice selection of folds, excellent instructions, and is sufficiently brief that the beginner is not intimidated. The low price is also a plus as it has the effect of encouraging the undecided to try it out.

A Great Start
As always, I'm amazed at how quickly my items ship through Amazon. This is a great starter book. Yes, as other reviewers said, it is very basic- but I haven't done Origami for 30+ years and wanted to start from scratch learning my folds again. Also, I chose this on an Amazon recommendation grouped with other items- a fantastic asset in buying from Amazon- so the price was just unbelievable. I would so recommend this for anyone starting out and wanting to gain quick confidence, or to start off a child. I was in hospital from a car accident for many months when I started Origami, and it was a great benefit to keeping a shut-in child occupied- this book would have been a blessing as opposed to the heavy, therefore awkward to someone in bed- book I had that was a bit over my head. This is so easy to understand and follow that there is no huge learning curve and therefore no great frustration.
