2-0 out of 5 stars Peds ER Book
I bought this book to help me prepare for the CPEN exam.I work in a Pediatric ER, and am an ENPC instructor.found it informative, but I felt it was dated with only 3 levels of triage.I started my studies with CPEN Review by Scott DeBoer, which made studying fun.I then bought this book, but after reading it through felt I needed more technical info.So I bought Mosby's Comprehensive Pediatric Emergency Care. The Mosby book was incredible, up to date, and put all the content into place.I did pass the exam last week!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Reference Book
I work as an educator in an emergency department and have found this book to be useful in both research and teaching time and time again.I also used this book as a study guide when preparing for the CPEN, and found it VERY useful.Caution however, if you have limited experience in emergency nursing, especially pediatric emergency nursing, then you may want to purchase a book that is not written in outline format. However, if you have experience and are looking for a great book to refresh some of your knowledge, this is it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Core, good for Educators.
While the Peds Core Cirruculum is good for educators it shares the same fatal flaw with the Adult Core.It is tedious and boring.I did not find is usefull for studing for Certification Exams nor in improving my bedside care.It was a useful tool for research and reference for developing educational marterials and policy and procedure.I have over 15 years experience in ED and am an ACLS instuctor, CEN and CCRN. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonder Years is Wonderful
My husband and I are first time parents and we found the Wonder Years to be an excellent source of information. The format and lovely pictures made the book easy to digest and easy to search when we wanted more information about a particular topic.Unlike some of the other child development books that seem more like reference books, The Wonder Years was actually a pleasure to read.I highly recommend The Wonder Years to all parents.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonder Years is Wonderful
I highly recommend this one for all parents who want to help their children develop and blossom.

The book does a great job of walking you through each of the diferent milestons and what to be on the look out for at each stage.Unlike some of the other comments, I actually prefer the grouping by activity, rather than age - It helped give me a clearer picture of the progression.I also especially liked the specific tips on how I can foster theirdevelopment.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "Must Have" Resource for New Parents
My wife and I purchased several books focused on childhood development and this one was our favorite. The fact that the publication is backed by the Am. Academy of Pediatrics gave us confidence that the information was accurate, well researched and up to date. Plus, we liked the format because it allowed us to focus specifically on areas we were concerned about with our son's development and skip those areas he was comfortably mastering - a bonus given we both have busy schedules.

I found this to be the best organized and most clearly written of the case based reviews for the oral boards. The cases discussed in this book were very similar to vignettes presented in the oral examination and this review covered almost all of the questions I was asked. I'm glad that I went through this book twice before boards and recommend it highly.

I would have to say this is the best pediatric care plan book on the market now. I skimmed through this one and Delmar's at the bookstore and this one had everything in it I needed. 5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding introductory text
Dr. Park's text addresses pediatric cardiology through four themes: fundamentals, pathophysiology, descriptions of congenital heart diseases and a set of chapters on approaches to important clinical presentations (e.g., syncope, CHF). The book is written in an orderly and concise manner, hybridized between descriptive text and outline format, making it equally valuable as an explanatory introduction to pediatric cardiology or as a rapid reference for use in clinic. I found it extremely helpful during my pediatric cardiology rotation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book for starters
I love this book, very simple and patho physiology explained in great detail. Highly recommend for medical students and residents.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Minor Quibble
I have owned every edition of this amazing book. It is truly THE pediatric cardiology text for primary care practitioners who care for children. (I'm a general pediatrician.) It is thorough, well-organized, and easy to use. I heartily recommend it.

I do have one minor quibble with this 5th edition. Dr. Park has removed "Part VII: Neonatal Cardiac Problems" and integrated that information into other chapters. I understand that there may be advantages to that approach. However, I'm most likely to encounter new cardiac problems in newborns and young infants rather than older children, so I found having a special section for this clinical situation useful. I miss having the information in the chapters "Special Features of the Cardiac Evaluation of Newborns" and "Manifestations of Cardiac Problems in Newborns" in one easily found section.

Because there has been much progress in pediatric cardiology since the 4th edition, I certainly wanted/needed this new edition despite my minor quibble with the new organization.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm a better pediatrician because of this book.
Great book. Residents should use this book, if not buy it. Not terribly expensive either. Excellent. Don't like the EKG book by the same author though.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE Cards book for residents (and rotating MS4's)
I bought this book on my 4th year medical student rotation for Pediatric Cardiology. It continues to serve me as a resident (just coming fresh off the Cardiology floor). The EKG section is invaluable. The description (and explanation of pathophysiology of) congenital heart defects is outstanding.I am told by fellows that this book has served them through the first year of fellowship then, before having to move onto more advanced texts. Only minus, no explanation of how EP studies work, which is not a huge minus because you won't be seeing much of that as a resident anyway.Bottom line:this is THE pediatric cardiology book that every pediatrician and every pediatric resident should have. ... I paid for a new book and it was actually used. The person's name was whited out. I didn't return the book because I needed it immediately. Really big rip off though, how can you trust a seller who lies about something like that!?

5-0 out of 5 stars Very prompt
The seller was very prompt and got my book to me before I expected it.It was nice to get an e-mail informing that the book had been sent.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too much for a rotation
This was the recommended text for our peds rotation. Not surprisingly, this is too long and slow to read for a rotation unless you are planning on going into peds or have in inordinate amount of time. The book itself seems well done, but for a standard 2 month medschool rotation, I'd just buy a review book instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars Current Pediatrics (Lange-2007) Review
As comprehensive and digestible a review of general pediatrics as possible in a relatively small package. The more common problems seen in community practice are treated sufficiently thoroughly while the less common ones require reading reference sources. A very useful primary text for the student and review text for the resident or practitioner.

1-0 out of 5 stars Delayed delivery
The delivery date was scheduled to be April 2, 2007 and it is May 7, 2007 and I still donot have the item. I ordered it by expedited shipping on March 18, 2007! What is going wrong with my delivery? Similar thing happened with another book I odered scheduled to arrive December 22,2006 but was only received it in february 2007.

4-0 out of 5 stars Core Review for Primary Care PNPs - review
This book covers all the basic categories that you need to know for your exam. I would not use this as my only study aid, but in addition to another study book. It is all review questions.

3-0 out of 5 stars Study questions only... not a review book
I thought I was getting a study guide but this is really just a book of questions. Also, the questions are much more simple than the practice questions for the PNCB test. However, it is a good way to study systematically and good resource for group studying. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review
Product Description
Finally, a resource that takes full advantage of modern technology. In a major advance for pediatric cardiology, this text/DVD set covers ultrasound physics; laboratory set-up; a protocol for a standard pediatric echocardiogram; quantitative methods of echocardiographic evaluation, including assessment of diastolic function; in-depth coverage of congenital cardiovascular malformations; acquired pediatric heart disease; and topics of special interest, such as 3D echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, and fetal echocardiography.

Amazon-Exclusive Q&A with Author Wyman Lai

Tell us a little bit about your book, who is it aimed at and how will it help them?
This book is a comprehensive textbook of pediatric echocardiography. It covers the latest advances in ultrasound imaging of the heart in children, and also deals with congenital heart disease in fetuses and adults. The textbook is aimed at those who practice and teach pediatric and congenital echocardiography. It provides a comprehensive, integrated approach to pediatric cardiac ultrasound and includes information about the anatomy, pathophysiology, and goals of the echocardiographic examination for each lesion before, during, and after treatment.

What inspired you to write the book?
We, the editors, saw a great need for an updated reference textbook for our trainees and for our colleagues and their trainees. It has been over a decade since the release of the last comprehensive textbook on this topic.

What do you hope readers will get out of it?
The chapters are written by experts throughout North American and Europe. Despite the wide geographic distribution of the authors, a consistent and thorough approach to pediatric echocardiography is provided. The readers will also have a DVD with hundreds of examples of key anatomic and functional issues mentioned in the text

What is different about your book from others in the field?
Its main attraction is that it is recently released and incorporates the latest technologies. It provides a perspective from authors drawn from most of the major pediatric cardiology centers on two continents. It is also the first comprehensive textbook to provide illustrative video clips, which greatly improve the readers’ ability to understand the information in the text and still figures.

What is your day job?
I run a non-invasive pediatric cardiology imaging laboratory at an academic medical center.

How did you get into this line of work?
I like taking care of children, and I enjoy the challenge of diagnosing and treating congenital heart disease. I have had great role models who were devoted to their patients but who also loved to teach.

What would you be if you were not a doctor?
I’d do something else that requires puzzle solving. Perhaps I’d be an engineer or an architect.

And finally, did you enjoy writing this book, and are you planning any others?
It was fun to work with my co-editors and all the authors. Everyone was willing to squeeze in this work despite being already incredibly busy. We’d like to update the textbook periodically in order to keep it relevant and on the cutting edge. Future editions should be more electronically based and accessible to readers over the internet.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for the pediatric echocardiographer
This is a truly exelent book, a lot of precise information in a relatively small space. The format of each section is the same through-out, and makes it fairly easy to find the relevant information. The first chapters, on equipment, standards and the ewxamination is also of a high standard. While I don't agree on every statement everywhere the chapters are well referenced and the pertinent points clearly made so this book should be a good fundament for further discussions in the echo labs.

If you are going to by just one book on this subject, this should be it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars useful
Ok first I am Bulgarian and our textbooks are a little bit different as structure but not as information. This textbook is useful but there are some misses .It`s about the Gastro. chapter it`s not complete especially peptic ulcer, Crohn`s disease and ulcerative colitis.Nutrition section tells nothing about basic schemes of feeding and use of water till 6th month. There are no or they are vague Lab Results. The positive is the new treatment of most of the disease the informative tables&figs. In general this book is useful for all the GPs or students who need to pass their exam.pediatricians may use it for quick scan of some information.

5-0 out of 5 stars great at-home reference for peds resident
This is a keeper for any peds resident's personal library, and it should probably be the go-to book.Rudolph's is comparable to Nelson's in its scope, detail, and comprehensive subject matter in pediatrics.I think where Rudolph's tops Nelsons is in readability--the writing won't put you to sleep quite as easily, the charts & tables are very helpful, and the font is also much more reader-friendly.Nowadays, if you're a resident, you really should be current and be able to know what's beyond the textbooks (i.e., journal literature). However, Rudolph's is a great basic place to start when learning a topic in Peds.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good peds text
This book covers a broad field in a concise, practical way.It is short enough to be read while on a rotation but long enough to cover the basics.I had a difficult time finding a peds text that I liked, and this is the best for a summary.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rudolph's Fundamentals of Pediatrics
i would easily rate this book as better than nelsons essentials of pediatrics and even current pediatrics. It is very readable and can actually hook u to it.Excellent charts and tables.Very good chapter on infectious diseases, and makes nephrology simpler to understand.A lot of algorithms and workups for common symptoms.Definitely recquires time commitment but the returns are more than worth it.The best book for the core rotation.I reccomend it to every student fron Hacettepe university ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
Great book, wonderful resource for those many late nights nursing students put in for their clinical preps.Helps you put the whole picture together!Would highly recommend to other nursing students and even seasoned RNS as you can never have enough resources!

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST CARE PLAN BOOK EVER!!!
If anyone has had as much difficulty finding the perfect book as I have, they know whats up. So I literally spent 20 hours of research searching for the PERFECT care plan book. After my exhaustive study, I found this little dream of a book!! So why this one?? I chose this book because it gives you EVERYTHING you need to create an A+++ care plan. It includes disease processes, the nursing diagnosis related to the said medical condition, outcomes, and the best part- it includes both interventions with ALL the scientific rationales in an easy to read and fluent manner that makes writing up those dreaded care plans a breeze!! I would strongly recommend this book due to it's all inclusive style and really mean it when I say "This is the best care plan book ever". I bought the 2nd edition which was way cheaper than the newer version for pennies on the dollar and it is just as good as the one's my friends bought for $50 dollars. It's a must have and can be used for all area's of study as it includes Med Surg, Psych, Peds, and OB sections, so you can literally use it all through school!! I am thrilled and I usually don't leave reviews but I hope you take my word that this book is a MUST HAVE!! :)

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what my clinical instructors want in a care plan
This book was ok.It does cover all subjects in nursing school, but the interventions and rationales were not really what my instructors wanted. This is the book that was required by my school and I got it, but half way through my first semester I ended up buying another care plan book by ackley and ladwig and then my grades on careplans went up exponentially.Nursing Diagnosis Handbook: An Evidence-Based Guide to Planning Care

1-0 out of 5 stars Content of book
This Nursing Care Plan book sucks. I bought this because the reviews were good but I have no idea why! There are limited care plans in here. I thought there would be a wide aray but that's not the case. The diagnoses I had to do weren't even in here for the particular disease process. A better recommendation is "A nursing handbook" by Betty Ackley & Gail Ladwig (8th edition)

3-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use
I bought this book to help write care plans for pediatrics. It is a pretty good book and very easy to use.The pathophysiology in the book is pretty simple so I had to use other resources for that.I found repeating interventions with repeating rational for several of the peds careplans. It did save me time from searching peer reviewed rational specific to pediatrics.I would recommend the book as a source but it probably isn't going to help you write your entire careplan.I hope to be able to use again for mental health careplans. ...
